And genetics are overrated ( having obviously a minimum of genetic predisposition) when it comes to ones ability to work hard .....note the Chinese sprinter bingtian su back squats 220kg ass to ankle ...off season ....

greyghost, there are several things you’ve written that are either incorrect or based upon something i didn’t write. my statement was based solely on Ramil’s training video that was posted.

cheers to you.

Do you have a link to an article saying or video showing Bingtian Su squatting 220kg with a full range of motion? Not saying you are wrong, I just want some clarification. He is listed at 145lbs and being able to legitimately squat 485 pounds is pretty incredible. I remember seeing a video of him doing 150kg for several reps, but he wasn't going to full parallel powerlifting depth and it didn't seem like he had that much more in the tank. Once again, not saying you are incorrect but I just would like clarification on this.

most sprinters do a form of "cross" training but comparing a crossfit athlete to any sprinter is like comparing ground chuck to prime rib roast or filet mignon :pesas:

with due respect to crossfitters ....and factual aspects .....
.....what guliyev is doing is maintenance lifting @ speed Preseason i.e. Or maintenance speed lifts during a heavy loading period of track training or indeed racing pending on time of year and aims for athlete and coach including training age of athlete ....world class sprinters including guliyev ...lift heavy October / November ...,includes a lot of Olympic lifting ...also back squat multiples up to 180/ 200 kilo multiples for pure strength ......all world class sprinters have the ability to put on weight by heavy lifting ..,,but power ratio to weight ...ie guliyev is max 82 kilo ....and back squats 180 ....your cross fitters may be up to 100 kilo and would be lucky to back squat 150 kg ....and absolutely no female comes near 130/140 kilo full back squat by 5 reps ... Ie ...ass to ankle squat ..........only female Olympic lifters will compare with sprinters .......but in reality 99.9% of cross fitters don't.....except top end male pros who have a background in Olympic lifting ... .......
Yes if he did max lifts he would be one explosive start away from a strain or tear of a major muscle group. Look what happened to Gemeli when he was startled with a fireworks explosion at the end of the race a few seasons back.

Sprinters are like high end race cars, all of their muscles are stressed to the max when they race.

A lot of the MMA fighters and wrestlers also don't go crazy with the weights because their normal grappling training is so taxing. I would think it would be the same way with sprinters. Running sprints is very hard on the body. That being said, I have seen many videos of sprinters who push it way way harder than Guliyev.

Despite this you can't argue the results. Ramil Guliyev has found what works for him and I never see the guy get hurt. Compare that to Lemaitre who seems to always be hurt. What's weird is that Christophe doesn't lift heavy weights either. Everyone has different genetics. I think Lemaitre could have been almost Bolt fast as he has incredible genetics but his body unfortunately doesn't seem to hold up under the stress of sprinting and working out. I do wish we could have seen him switch his coach but that never happened.

Regardless both of these guys have been the best white sprinters I have ever seen in my lifetime!

I agree. Lemaitre's genetics are Bolt-like. His top speed was among the best ever. When I first saw him come on the scene, I sincerely thought he would get into the 9.6s. I felt he never developed the necessary explosiveness, and that he could have, had he taken a different approach.

On the other hand, who knows what Bolt was taking in terms of chemicals. The various drugs enable rapid progress in the weight room and much faster recovery times. Would Bolt have folded up with injuries without the drugs?? Ben Johnson was a 10.2 sprinter when he was off the juice.

comparing and contrasting is one of the basic concepts in discussions. apparently, my simple comparison of the amount of weight lifted by Guliyev to a typical, non-elite Crossfitter was too difficult to grasp. i’ll try again.

the genetic variation within the human race is quite wide (and despite what greyghost says, VERY significant in athletic endeavors). an average athlete would never be able to approach the swift times Guliyev routinely throws down while using such lightweight training methods as shown in the linked video. that he does so should be readily apparent evidence that understanding an athlete’s specific bio-mechanical and physiological makeup is key to training success.

i certainly never had a coach that took the time to program such a specific training regimen for my physical gifts, not that i was an elite sprinter by any means.

Hi guys,

Emile is in Nigeria this weekend for the African Champs. Only running 4x100 and 200m.

Thought I would post a video of his last race on his tour. Cork City Ireland. He broke the Irish Allcomers record set by Linford Christie in 1989.

Enjoy

That is great news. I was wondering if he'd be in the African Championships. His 20.48 was into a negative wind, so if the conditions are good, he should obliterate that time. Do you know when he'll be contesting the 100 again? I really want to see him break that 10.00 barrier.

Thanks guys. He will be running the 200m on Saturday (heats and semis) and final on Sunday. Ran the anchor in the 4x100 tonight
.

Unfortunately his season is done after Africa champs. He will have an early start next year, they are planning to run 2 100's in Jan and in Feb. Three of those races will be in Pretoria. Conditions are perfect for going sub 10 ave about 90 degrees f and the elevation is 1400m on a quick new Mondo track also Pretoria has little wind.

The goal is to qualify for worlds in Doha in those 4 races. He will taper down after that and prep for SA champs in April.

S'Africa win mens 4x100 in a canter. Emile on 3rd leg this time and really stretched to hand the batton to the anchor. Total commitment there.
A gold and lovely way to finish the season.

Emile knew they had it after his handover. Nice to see he can run either the straight OR the bend and get the baton across.
Makes an athlete pretty useful to selectors.

Emile's 4x100m race

It was a good relay and theymissed the SA record by.01 set at the Common Wealth games. Same guys except for the back straight guy(Simon Magakwe). Anaso Jobodwana ran the Common Wealth games.
They are now going to Ostrava for the continental cup 8 and 9 September.

Emile ran the 200m heats this morning and qualified for the semis but withdrew to a niggle in his knee. He is ok just withdrew as a precaution
Just check his size!!

An interesting fact. Emile(10.01) is ranked no2 in South Africa and no 3 in Africa. The closest white guy to him is Gerrit Wickens(10.36) also from South Africa Ranked no 19 in South Africa and no 37 in Africa. The next white guy in Africa is Le Roux van Tonder(10.56) no 40 in South Africa and no 82 in Africa. White sprinters in Africa is a very scares commodity.

The NACAC's start today in Toronto, should be some good races depending of course on how the new mondo track at U of Toronto plays out. Looking forward to see how Georganne Moline handles S Little in the 400mh

at the NACACS Prandini with an easy 11.01(1.0) 100m semis, she shut it down with 10m and coasted across the line.
