Hortelano 200m Spanish Champs semi final heats 20.04 (pb) final is coming up

Damn that's incredible. I kind of wish he would have saved more energy for the final but with his 400 meters endurance if the conditions are right he may just go sub 20 anyway. That would be epic! Guy is the best all around sprinter on earth!

Hortelano 20.15 in the final, guess he spent too much on the semis, all in all a good showing for this all out speedster! A kid named Pol Retamal came second in 20.83, he is 19.

"caved in" ....... yes, the first time I've seen her give up. Her countrywoman beat her.
She's only completed 4 x 100 metre runs internationally this year (dq'd in another) and came close to 11 but never improved, her last one being her slowest.
I'd say she's struggling with injury and keeping it under wraps.

Have you dropped Schippers down a spot based on a current lack of speed endurance?
She looked good at 140m and got progressively worse until she was terrible from 180 on.

Speaking of the European Championships. I'm very sad that first off Christophe won't be able to compete. It was one of his main goals of his season and time is growing short for his sprinting career. You can see it even with Reus as he is not racing nearly as fast this year as last and he is already 30 years of age. Every sprinter is different though and genetics vary from individuals.

Secondly i'm bummed out that F. Tortu isn't running the deuce. I think he could have had a chance to have been on the medal stand with his outstanding speed. At the very least he could have fun a few new personal bests. I know it's not his main distance but it will also help his 100 meters in the long run. Oh well. Hopefully he can take gold in the 100. It will be very tough.

To see Ramil Guliyev take the double sprint title would be outstanding but he is a long shot in the 100.

Hope to see some other young sprinters continue to step up on the mens and womens side.

Guliyev seems to have a knack of remaining just off peak for long periods and ever ready to peak.
He could well break 10 again at Euros if conditions are excellent

Ramil Guliyev and his coach really know how to keep him in top form. He races as much as any sprinter in the world and his times are always elite. He wins the majority of the races or is in the top 2 or 3 guys at the worst. If only Christophe Lemaitre would have had the right coach who knows what he could have accomplished. Ramil Guliyev has had the better career despite missing a few years due to switching what country he runs for. Amazing career and it's not over yet!

it’s crazy how much genetic variability there is in the human body. for you sample, most all the women in the Crossfit box i work out in lift MUCH heavier than he does. of course, none of us can run like he can.

with due respect to crossfitters ....and factual aspects .....
.....what guliyev is doing is maintenance lifting @ speed Preseason i.e. Or maintenance speed lifts during a heavy loading period of track training or indeed racing pending on time of year and aims for athlete and coach including training age of athlete ....world class sprinters including guliyev ...lift heavy October / November ...,includes a lot of Olympic lifting ...also back squat multiples up to 180/ 200 kilo multiples for pure strength ......all world class sprinters have the ability to put on weight by heavy lifting ..,,but power ratio to weight ...ie guliyev is max 82 kilo ....and back squats 180 ....your cross fitters may be up to 100 kilo and would be lucky to back squat 150 kg ....and absolutely no female comes near 130/140 kilo full back squat by 5 reps ... Ie ...ass to ankle squat ..........only female Olympic lifters will compare with sprinters .......but in reality 99.9% of cross fitters don't.....except top end male pros who have a background in Olympic lifting ... .......

stremgth is synonymous with speed ....forget the cross fitters is a reebok fad ....and like tri Athlon it attracts those with no real talent for any specific sport ....
