Was hoping to see two white running backs in the Lions vs. Patriots game but as is typical for the NFL saw none. Burkhead out with injury and Zenner not used at all. Burkhead I know will have a spot but Zenner has to be considered on the bubble at this point. Abbederis was effective and I think will make the roster.

And of course Edelman gets injured too.

I hope Billinglsey gets a spot too. If Edelman is out for the year and Billingsley is cut I would love for the Pats to sign him. Zenner gets no carries - the hyped up nothing Dwayne Washington and Matt Asiata both got playing time as did Theo Riddick. I have a feeling Zenner is going to be cut. This year the purge happens on one day instead of having two roster cutdowns.

Austin Davis with a nice touchdown completion to Tanner McEvoy, who went up and got the ball over the defender. I have no doubt that McEvoy could be a star outside receiver. He has the size, speed and requisite skills to excel.

Edit: Now Gerigh Dieter making catches for KC. A roster spot is unlikely but hopefully he can at least secure a place on the practice squad.

Detroit coach Caldwell tells reporters that Zenner was out with an unspecified injury. If true that's somewhat good news, at least he wasn't intentionally kept off the field.

With the Edelman possible ACL injury ( I am still hoping probably in vain it is just a twist or strain) I say of course. (Jordy flashback anyone?) Heaven forbid we ENJOY ourselves here at CF for more than a passing moment. If it is a season ender for Edelman it is more important than ever that some of the white borderline WR's make their teams like for the Lions we would hope they keep both Jared A and Billingsley but if just one makes it (preferably Billingsley due to his burst) I can live with it. If both get cut and that theme reverberates throughout the league then we are back to the pits of hell once again. This was going to be the year where we really noticed a bit of a surge for white WR's. In two weeks we will have a better idea of which way the wind is blowing.
I disagree with the instant analysis I heard if Julian is out for the year. I don't think the Pats can win without him he is that essential. Need evidence, they won their last two Super Bowls with Julian leading the way. The one they lost Julian(foot issue) was nowhere near 100% against the Broncos.
Too many in the media have underplayed Julian's importance and I am afraid it will come into play this season for the Pats. This Crooks guy is no substitute for Edelman.
Bottom line we will find out sometime Sunday the extent of the injury.

Bortles named the starter - really rooting for him to turn it around this year and shut all the doubters up.

I also hope Alex Smith is able to be more aggressive this season. The game manager label won't go away until he starts being more aggressive. Fat bastard and the media already are pushing him out the door for the afleet Mahomes.

Edelman has been crucial, but Brady is still loaded with weapons. I would not count out Hogan, Amendola and Burkhead making a big impact. Especially Amendola because he has always been clutch on big drives.

Well it is official. Edelman has a complete ACL tear in his right knee and will miss the season. This suck but I'm gonna drop some white pills.

If this were any other team, Julian would be replaced by a negro but since it is NE, Amendola will pick up the snaps. White depth matters. Danny would have had almost no role but now he could slot in for Julian. They could move Cooks to the slot and elevate Mitchell but we'll see. Another positive, is that Hogan will see more targets. Wouldn't it be great if Gronk and Hogan went over 1K? Now it's possible. Also, a roster spot could open up for another receiver like Cody Hollister. The Pats could also sign a White purge victim.

Again, this news is bad but not nearly as impactful as Jordy or Woody going down.

It's terrible news that Edelman is done. The Pats as we all know are renowned for claiming other teams unwanted White WRs though - it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. As for Edelman he is one of the best WRs of the past half decade - more than just a replaceable player in the Patriots system that the media likes to claim he is. He will be missed this year.

Yeah Danny always seems on the verge of odd man out on the bubble but he's made some clutch plays in his time with the Pats.

Seahawks disgust me, but Tanner McEvoy a big 6'6 burner could surprise this year! Caught 2
Passes for 43 yards and a TD! Even wigger Pete might not be able to resist lol.

Also, to note I saw the Lions Jace Billingsley had a carry for 6 yds, along with 3 grabs for 45 yds! Honestly think they keep him and Abbrederis! Billingsley will be a mostly ST guy, and see time returning punts. Abbrederis hopefully wins the no. 4 receiver job. Then you have Zenner, who will probably have to see some injuries again.. To sum it up the Lions will have an interesting Off.

The announcer cited Cardale Jones's feel for the game as a positive, which it definitely isn't. Jones promptly threw an interception.

Hackenberg isn't ready and the media is going to pounce on him. I wouldn't mind seeing Petty start for the Jets.

I was away and out of touch with sports the past couple days. It really sucks to find out about Edelman. He'll be 32 next season; he doesn't seem that old but his racial apprenticeship lasted until his fifth season. Of course the Patriots were the only team that would have given him even a racial apprenticeship.

I'm hoping Hogan, Amendola and even Burkhead benefit as Rex could be even more valuable as a pass catcher now on first and second downs.

Yes, he is rawer than sushi. He just has tremendous raw measurable tools but when was the last time a qb ever became anything but a guy who lasted for a few years in the league with those tools.

PS, I actually forgot about Farve who was Jones in Atlanta and only in Green Bay when he actually developed a work ethic in the film room started to fulfill his promise.

This is typical of the media reaction to Edelman's injury -- only blacks will benefit, not Amendola or Burkhead. Meanwhile the DWFs are stunned. One can imagine them saying in their best moronic DWF voice, "What do you mean Hogan can't replace Edelman? They're both White aren't they?" Actually Hogan could benefit, as could Cooks, by being moved around the field more from outside to inside on various plays.

Ben Volin of the Boston Globe doesn't see Chris Hogan as an obvious replacement for Julian Edelman (knee) in the slot. The Patriots are missing 158 targets from last season with Edelman out and while Hogan does have some experience in the slot, Volin still sees him as more of a deep threat. Danny Amendola's skill set is more similar to Edelman's, though Volin doesn't expect him to play more than 20-25 snaps per game. Rather than finding a replacement for Edelman in the slot, Volin believes the Patriots will adjust their scheme with James White, Dion Lewis and Dwayne Allen all likely to see an "uptick" in targets.

Glennon looks really good - throwing some absolute darts all over the field. The Bears just lost a WR to injury - would be nice if they gave Gentry and Braverman a chance here.

That was Cameron Meredith, their only NFL caliber receiver other than potentially Braverman and Gentry. But John Fox, like Tom Coughlin before him, went from being relatively fair to White players early in his coaching career to full-blown Caste clown in his dotage, especially when it comes to receivers. He reminds me of Jeff Fisher, a coach well past his expiration date who needs to be replaced. Braverman should be right in the thick of the fight to be the starting slot receiver, but I've yet to read anything positive about him so far this training camp.

Cameron Meredith left Sunday's third preseason game with a left knee injury and will not return. He was carted off after coming down with a 16-yard catch late in the first quarter. FOX declined to show a replay of the injury because it was so graphic. Meredith had his left leg placed in an air-cast upon exiting and is clearly dealing with a serious, potentially season-ending injury.

I noticed UDFA receiver Brandon Reilly had another good game yesterday for the Bills. The team has little depth at the position after trading Watkins. At this point I'm going to go out on a limb and predict he makes the 53. If so, he'd be one of our biggest surprises at the skill positions.
