Jim Schwartz: 'Very encouraged' by LB Nate Gerry
Gerry has impressed Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Nate Gerry is certainly looking like a fifth-round steal for the Philadelphia Eagles...at least in the eyes of defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.

Gerry has been one of the impressive rookies through the first two weeks of training camp. A converted safety from Nebraska, Gerry has adapted well to his new position at linebacker.

"Very encouraged," Schwartz said regarding Gerry. "He’s responded to every challenge we've put in front of him. When we've had some of those live contact practices is when he's showed up the most, and I think there is some football player, in quotation marks, to him."

Gerry was one of the top playmaking safeties in the Big Ten, having 13 interceptions over the last three years for the Cornhuskers. While Gerry has still been strong in coverage, Schwartz has found ways to move him up the depth chart based on his ability to adapt to his new role at linebacker.

First-team reps have been coming for Gerry, which are a result of his physicality in practice.

"He's played very tough, very physical," Schwartz said. "You don't get very many live periods in practice, but when it has, he's showed up. He's been assignment sound, and it's going to be a big preseason for him to continue to show that progress. I've been very encouraged by him."

The Eagles will give Gerry an extended look in the preseason at the SAM and WILL linebacker positions. His progress during camp has been one of the surprises of the past two weeks.

Being a Schwartz favorite may have locked Gerry's 53-man roster spot.

Don't forget Joe Walker - the uber athletic LB from Oregon who lost his rookie season due to an ACL injury.

This really opens the door for Chad Hansen to get significant playing time as a rookie -- if he can get healthy himself as he currently has some kind of knee problem that's been preventing him from practicing:

Jets placed WR Quincy Enunwa on injured reserve with a neck injury, ending his season. Unbelievable. Enunwa, the Jets' clear-cut No. 1 receiver, was injured in a team scrimmage on Saturday. It leaves second-year UDFA Robby Anderson as Gang Green's No. 1. It's a positively cataclysmic situation for a team that should be amongst the most unwatchable in league history this season. As for Enunwa, it's devastating news that wipes out his age-25 campaign. Neck injuries are arguably the trickiest in all of football. His status beyond 2017 should be considered uncertain.

Packers release DT Guion. Hopefully, this helps solidify Lowry's position on the DL. I'm expecting him to become as much of a "household name" as JJ Watt by the end of the year (if he can stay healthy).

Good stuff, Guion just another thug sumo who couldn't produce on the field and couldn't stay out of trouble in his free time. Good riddance.

Another headline calling Tanner Gentry a "playmaker" and that there's no QB controversy as Mike Glennon is a clear #1 (over Trubisky). I'm glad Glennon got the rare second chance for a White player in the NFL after "Crab Legs" Winston was anointed the starting QB in TB without any competition allowed whatsoever. I'm hoping he can capitalize on it. It would be great if he had a better year than "Crab Legs", thus exposing the racial bias he faced while at TB.

I have heard that Trubisky has been pretty good, I am excited to see what he does this preseason but would prefer him sit behind Glennon for the year. Best case scenario is that Glennon has a good season - gets traded to another team in the offseason and Mitch becomes the Bears franchise signal caller in 2018. I personally think it is ok for QBs to sit for a year - especially white QBs. One only has to look at Jared Goff's treatment in the media to see how he is already being written off by many after 6 games in a mediocre offense with no WRs. Non-white QBs are treated with kid gloves - recent history with the Gremlin, Ebony Jenkum and Geno Smiff - these were all huge busts!!! but we never hear a word about them - 2 of the 3 also had the luxury of playing out their rookie contracts with the teams that drafted them - no pressure there!

The oppression black athletes face in America is stifling. I mean, at least 1 or 2% of black athletes charged with serious crimes are actually convicted of them. This must be reduced to 0% immediately. Free Blackie!

Corey Coleman has been officially cleared in his Dec. 2016 assault case. Coleman's brother was charged, but Coleman skated, as his attorney predicted in June. Coleman's main concern now is keeping his troublesome hamstring healthy as he works to lock down No. 2 duties behind Kenny Britt.

The Santa Clara district attorney has dropped the felony domestic violence case against free agent CB Tramaine Brock.
Brock was arrested in April and immediately released by the 49ers. Turning 29 in 11 days, Brock was San Francisco's clear No. 1 cornerback last season, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 16 corner out of 119 qualifiers. Now that charges have been dropped, four teams have already reached out to Brock. The Eagles could use him.

I do find the coverage of the Broncos' QB situation to be particularly strange, even for the anti-White fake news media. There's been a very strong anti-Lynch sentiment from the beginning even though he was a first round pick just last year and has all the tools to be a superstar; well, maybe that's why they don't want him to succeed. Every day in training camp the competition between Lynch and Siemian is portrayed as a bizarre horse race, with Siemian supposedly in the lead but Lynch having some good days. If I was Elway, I'd tell the coaches to hand the keys to Lynch and give him a season or two to show he can be a star. The fact that both are White is the only good thing about it, but of course now there's the obligatory drumbeat for Krapernick, or A. J. McCarron, or Chad Kelly, or someone, anyone but Lynch.

Again in a general sense the black/white media divide has calmed down a bit the past couple of years perhaps thanks to this site. But this one is for the books. After last nights preseason game and Christian's debut---where it was obvious that the Panthers just wanted him to get his feet wet but nothing too strenuous so as to avoid injury, they know he is their big ticket-- this morning Mike Golic, one of most toxic media jerks out there and Michael Irvin were both smugly sharing a condescending laugh together reiterating why they thought Watson was way better than Trubisky and that last night's preseason game sealed their argument. Not to be too crude but after a minor appearance in a preseason game these two fools have already blown their load over Watson, the next coming, NO pun intended. You got to laugh.

Laugh of the day. Remember all the hype this guy got last year despite a super-slow 40 time? I'm happy for all the DWFs who dutifully took him in the first round of their fantasy drafts and then watched slack-jawed as Adam Thielen become the starter.

Laquon Treadwell is sitting out the Vikings' preseason opener after getting injured in a practice fight last week. Treadwell was evidently injured in a training camp scuffle with Antone Exum last Monday. He hasn't practiced since. It's a bitterly disappointing development for a player who seemed to be making progress after a lost rookie year. It's unclear when Treadwell might return, though he's likely day to day.

And here's yet another highly drafted WR who's permanently injured:

Breshad Perriman (hamstring) hasn't practiced for nine days, and is inactive for Thursday's preseason opener. It's the last thing Perriman needed after what was supposedly an impressive offseason program. He's day to day, but we've heard that one before with the No. 26 overall pick of the 2015 draft.

At the combine Trubisky threw the ball at 55 mph. Watson threw it at 49, a very low velocity.

Naturally, whenever a black does poorly on a test, some black supremacist comes along to claim: A) the test is invalid and B) the test is meaningless. You see this with IQ tests and the Wonderlic test. You can add velocity measurements to the list.

I wish Nick was starting at weakside or in the middle, but still this is good news:

Bengals release first depth chart of 2017 season

As expected, Nick Vigil is the starting strongside linebacker. The second-year backer had a promising rookie season. Combined with a good offseason showing this year, Vigil looks poised to lock this spot down for the 2017 season.

LB Raekwon McMillan tears his ACL on his first NFL play and is presumably out for the season. So much for the "supa afflete" The Dolphins passed on TJ Watt to take this guy in the second round. What a joke!

Edit: i'm hoping this leads to a promotion for Mike Hull or perhaps Chase Allen who has looked pretty good in this game so far

Mitch Trubisky with a superb debut for the Bears, don't think he's had an incompletion yet.

Jeff Janis had a 20 yard TD catch

Jordan Taylor made a nice catch for the Broncos

Undrafted Rookie FA Richard Mullaney with 54 yard catch for the Browns

I was listening to the post game reaction on our local talk radio and I think I heard more concern and audible sickness out of "broncos county" on which QB should start after mediocre performances by Lynch and Siemian than potentially getting bombed by North Korea or having their kids being taught that transvestites are normal

In addition to Janis having a touchdown catch, GB had 2 other White standouts. Max McCaffrey had 3 catches for 60 yards. It would be tough but amazing to see Nelson, Janis and McCaffrey all making the 53 man roster.

QB Taysom Hill had a successful debut. He completed 4 of 5 passes for 69 yards and a TD. He was also the leading rusher for GB on the night with 2 carries for 14 yards. It would be great if Hill outperformed black quarterback Hundley all preseason. It's unlikely but maybe GB would trade away Hundley and go with Callahan and Hill behind A-Rod.

Maybe the link to the story on BSPN I posted the other day that said Glennon was the "clear #1" was really just "fake news" to denigrate the White first pick of the last draft, Trubisky. After last night, it's not so clear that Glennon is still the "clear #1". If the Bears had picked Deshaun Watson instead of Trubinsky, I doubt BSPN would have said Glennon was the "clear #1".
