2017-2018 College Basketball Season

Well deserved for Huerter. He's been playing great this year! With Jackson out for the year for the Terps, Huerter should continue putting up large numbers. I hope Maryland is able to get into the NCAA tournament.

Some more good news from last night: Boise State went on the road and knocked off Marvin Menzies (former New Mexico State coach...) and all-black UNLV 83-74! Big win for the Broncos and their possible tourney hopes. Black player Chandler Hutchison (who is pretty good) and Zach Haney led the Broncos. Haney had 11 points and 11 boards. The Mountain West may get two bids, and I hope Boise is one of them.

Also from last night: although Lipscomb was overmatched against Purdue, Garrison Matthews didn't show it. Matthews was by himself against the Boilermakers; he had 25 points and 5 boards as the Bisons (not a typo) were blown out 98-66. However, Lipscomb is one of the favorites in the A-Sun conference; hope to see them in the Tourney! Isaac Haas had 19 and 7, while Dakota Mathias had 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 rebounds. Matt Haarms stuffed the stat sheet off the bench; he had 9 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

In terms of our teams and their NCAA tournament hopes, here are at large teams we can support who have good chances to make the tourney as of today: Notre Dame, Arizona State, Butler, St. Mary's, Virginia, Purdue, Michigan, UNC (with Maye), Boise State, Maryland, UCLA, Creighton, Xavier (possibly). Teams that have some work to do: Utah, Iowa, Wisconsin, Oregon State, BYU, Northern Iowa. So that's not too bad; this list doesn't take into account the small conference teams we've got to support as well!

I know it freaking hurts to give up on your school. But for my sanity please stop mentioning Butler. They have 2 upper classman marginal white players who occasionally see the floor. They have a black head coach and there done for at least the next five years. Out of 33 targets for the 2018 and 2019 only 4 of them were white. It is similar to Ernie Kent coming in to coach the 2 white Lukes and then changing the program or any other caste coach walking in the door. It might as well be Larry Brown walking into SMU and kicking off every last white player. Just see it for what it is.

If Creighton didnt have a good white Freshman they would be pretty much in the same boat. I remember them starting at least 4 whites sometimes 5. Same thing for Gonzaga, Northern Iowa, Butler,BYU, Davidson, the Dakota Schools and most of the Ivy Schools until recently.

Short of Wisconsin and St Marys there is not much to root for other than individual players. Unlike others on here Im pretty sure you are real, but just cant let go of your team. Let it go!

First, Butler isn't "my school." However, given their history, I do respect them and have cheered for them in the past. I still will this year. I mentioned very early in this thread I was going to wait to see how the rotation shakes out before I posted on Butler. Given they have two white players playing 25+ minutes per game and two more combining for around 20, I'd say their rotation isn't too bad yet. Yes, their recruiting isn't good, and trending in the wrong direction, but this year, they still have 3 good white players in their rotation. I wouldn't call Paul Jorgensen a "marginal" player at this point. He just scored 23 points against the No. 1 team in the country, has scored in double figures in something like 9 of his last 10 games, and has been playing 30+ minutes a game lately. Doesn't seem "marginal" to me. Sean McDermott (an underclassman) has gotten more and more time lately off the bench, and has gotten back to playing 20+ minutes per game as he recovers from an ankle injury. The Bulldogs last two white scholarship players, Nate Fowler and Joey Brunk, are more of the "marginal" players you speak of, but still combine to play around 15 minutes per game. This means Butler has 2-3 whites on the floor for most of their games now, making them a pretty good team to root for compared to most other options.

My point being, after next year (when Jorgensen and Fowler graduate), I'll stop mentioning them, as they won't be white friendly, and won't be worth watching. Notice how I haven't mentioned Gonzaga in awhile; they've only got one under-performing white starter at the moment, and aren't worth watching. Next year, when two of their black starters graduate and are likely replaced by white players, I'll mention them again.

I agree with you in that I wish these teams would go back to starting 3-4 white players each year like they used to. Unfortunately, even BYU only has 2 white starters this year. Given the fact that the number of white players is slowly decreasing, and those white players that are left spread themselves out among more schools than they used to, there's not as many teams to root for anymore. So when a team like Butler puts 2-3 white guys on the floor at once for good chunks of their games, I think that's still worth rooting for.

It's been awhile, but here's another update of some notable performances the last few days:

Virginia currently has the Number 1 scoring defense in the entire NCAA, allowing an average of only 52.7 PPG. My question is: how can this be? The Cavaliers start three white players who play heavy minutes. Surely, these melanin deficient players can't be THAT good at defense, can they? Well, they are, and help to anchor the best unit in college basketball. Virginia has been playing some great basketball lately, and are very fun to watch. Starting PG Ty Jerome has really hit his stride lately. In fact, Jerome was named ACC Player of the Week last week. He's been in double figures his last for games, giving the Cavs another scoring option. Starting SG Kyle Guy, the team's leading scorer, continues to impress as well with over 15 PPG on the season. In Virginia's road blowout win over Buzz Williams and all-black Virginia Tech, Jerome and Guy both had 13 points, good for 2nd on the team in scoring. Guy added 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Jerome had 5 assists and 3 boards. Starting center Jack Salt doesn't play as much as the two guards, but he's a very physical presence in the middle who anchors the Cavalier defense. It's really amazing how three "unathletic" white guys managed to completely stifle Virginia Tech's "superior athletes." The only complaint I have with the Cavs is redshirt freshman Jay Huff's inability to get off the bench at this point.

I know deceptive mentioned these guys, but they're too good to not mention again.

I mentioned Gonzaga in my last post. I decided to watch them tonight, not having anything else to do. I picked the right night to watch the Bulldogs; their white players have been great so far. Killian Tillie is leading the Zags with 16 and 6 with the better part of the 2nd half still to come. Kispert and Jacob Larsen have also been playing well for the Bulldogs. They'll definitely be a better team next year for us to support.

A few performances from the last couple of days:

Martin Krampelj continues his strong year for Creighton. The sophomore forward had 14 and 11 in the Blue Jays' win over odious St. John's Wednesday.

Boise State's Justinian Jessup led the Broncos with 23 points Wednesday as the Broncos blew out New Mexico.

Even though he gets overshadowed by fellow freshman Trae Young, forward Brady Manek has been VERY strong this year for Oklahoma. Against Oklahoma State Wednesday, Manek actually led the Sooners with 28 points! He's had a couple of those games this year, and will be key for the Sooners moving forward. When Young leaves, Manek will likely be the star of the team.

St. Joe's has likely never been mentioned on these boards as a team to root for, and for good reason. But, that may be changing. I watched them a couple of weeks ago, and saw that the Hawks start two white forwards, sophomore Pierfrancesco Oliva, and freshman Taylor Funk. Both of these guys have been playing nearly 30 minutes per game. On top of that, another freshman forward, Anthony Longpre, comes off the bench to relieve them! I don't think St. Joeseph's has played this many whites in quite some time. From what I've seen of box scores, both Funk and Oliva are crucial to St. Joe's chances at winning games. For instance, Funk is now 3rd on the team in scoring at over 13 PPG, and his 19 last night paced the Hawks to a win over all-black VCU. Oliva isn't as much of a scorer, but averages 7 points and a team-leading 8 boards per game. Gotta say, it's a pleasant surprise to see the Hawks playing 3 white guys, all young. They might be a team to cheer for once they start to improve. With St. Joe's two best players seniors, count on Funk and Oliva becoming team leaders sooner rather than later from the looks of it.

One more post for the night. I've been meaning to post on these guys for awhile, but just haven't had any time. If you're in need of a team to root for, here's one: Ball State. Here's a good article on what happened with one of the freshman on their team.

Right now, Ball State is perhaps the hottest team in the country. The Cardinals have won 9 straight games, including knocking off then-No.8 Notre Dame. The star of the team is junior point guard Tayler Persons. Persons is an absolute baller who leads Ball State is both scoring (15 PPG) and assists (4.4 per game). He's had some HUGE games already this year. He's won two games back-to-back for the Cardinals with shots in the final seconds, including Notre Dame! Here they are:

Besides Persons, Ball State has two other white starters in forwards Kyle Mallers and Sean Sellers. I haven't watched Ball State yet, so I can't comment on these guys too much. Mallers is currently 2nd on the team in scoring at nearly 12 PPG, while Sellers is 4th at 8 per game. Mallers also pulls down 5 rebounds per game. Giving what the Cardinals are dealing with, I'm hoping they're able to make an NCAA run this year! They certainly have the star in Persons to do it.

Thanks 22!! I'm glad you like them! I've been busy, and haven't been posting as much lately. The rest of you feel free to post updates as well!!

What a great game from Maye!! I think you'd have to go back to Tyler Hansborough nearly 10 years ago to find a white Tar Heel that's putting up the numbers Maye is.

Anyways, here some stats from the last couple of nights:

Tayler Persons had 16 points and 5 boards, while Kyle Mallers had 14 points in a Ball State win over Ohio.

Tony Bennett and No. 3 Virginia just keep winning. Their backcourt of Ty Jerome, Kyle Guy, and Devon Hall (black) are a HUGE reason why. Guy led the Cavs with 22 points, and Hall nearly had a triple double as Virginia suffocated Syracuse most of the game with their defense. Ty Jerome chipped in 9 points, 4 assists, and 3 boards while not turning the ball over once.

Isaac Haas had the game-winning point for No. 5 Purdue on the road against Michigan Tuesday. Haas finished with 17 points, 6 boards, and 2 blocks, while Dakota Mathias had 14 points, 4 assists, and 3 points.

Svi Mykailiuk had another strong game for Kansas, scoring 23 points in a Jayhawks win over Iowa State.

Ethan Happ had 19 points and 11 boards in a losing effort for Wisconsin. I hope these guys start improving so they can make a run next year. Davison had 15 points, 5 assists, and 5 boards. Besides those two, the rest of the roster is question marks right now. They've been the only consistent Badgers this year.

Make Marquette's Andrew Rowsey appointment television. This guy is, as they say, a "straight up baller." He poured in 31 points and Sam Hauser chipped in 14 and 8 as Marquette steam-rolled all-black Seton Hall. The Golden Eagles are one of our best teams this year.

Creighton's Martin Krampelj has been playing great this season; he got ANOTHER double double in the Blue Jay's win against Butler, with 14 points and 14 boards in just 22 minutes of time. The guy is a stud. On the losing end, Paul Jorgensen had a nice game for the Bulldogs, leading the team with 18 points, with 3 boards and 2 steals.

From tonight:

Notre Dame's streak of winning without Matt Farrell and Bonzie Colson came to an end tonight at the hands of Georgia Tech. Martinas Geben had a nice game in a losing effort, with 16 points and 9 boards. John Mooney had 11 and 8 off the bench. The Irish frequently had 4 whites on the court when I was watching tonight; all of whom will be back next year. For Tech, senior center Ben Lammers had 10 points, 10 boards, and 2 blocks.

With an injury to their star Anthony Lamb, it looks like Vermont is back to starting 4 white players! They've been playing good basketball, even without Lamb in the lineup. Tonight, Payton Henson, stepping up in Lamb's absence into a bigger role, had 20 points and 4 boards, while guard Cam Ward had 14 points and 5 assists off the bench.

Davidson steam-rolled over George Washington, with Peyton Aldridge and Jon Axel Gundmundsson having good games. Aldridge had 15 points, 6 boards, and 4 assists, while Gundmundsson had 14 points and 9 rebounds.

Wofford held off disgusting nearly all-black Harvard to win 63-62 tonight. Fletcher Magee had 19 points, 7 boards, and 4 assists, while Storm Murphy and Trevor Stumpe had 12 and 11 points respectively.

Florida's Egor Koulechov looks like he's emerged as the go-to guy for Florida; he led the Gators again tonight with 23 points and 8 rebounds, both team highs.

Purdue Big Man Isaac Haas has really impressed me this year as a SR. He's 7'2 290lbs with nimble feet and a soft touch. He's averaging 14ppg, 5rb, and 1.5blk a game! Playing himself into a NBA Draft pick imo. Integral reason why Purdue is Top5 team this year!

Good couple of posts, celtic. I agree about Haas. He's finally playing decent minutes per game, and has really been working on his conditioning from the looks of it. Purdue is a VERY dominant team so far this year - ranked 3rd in the country!! Although the two Edwards (both black) take a lot of shots (more than they should sometimes), they still play 5 white guys in most games, including two of their top four players in Mathias and Haas, so they're a team to cheer for.

No. 2 Virginia has also been a great surprise. They've got a super back court, a great defense (thought white guys couldn't play defense), and two good front court players. Really hope they beat Duke today!!

Luke Maye has been lights out this year. He exploded again today, leading UNC in a close OT loss to NC State. Maye had 31 points, 12 boards, 3 blocks, and 2 assists!! Maye is easily the best story of the year. The Cavs and Blue Devils are currently on CBS for those of you who'd like to tune in.

In some bad news, Creighton's Martin Krampelj is out for the year with a torn ACL. Terrible news for a guy who'd been having a breakout season.

What a cold-blooded shot by Ty Jerome. Him, Guy, and Devon Hall (black) sure make a fun back court to watch!! I'm glad Purdue and Virginia are doing well; it's making up for the disappointing seasons Wisconsin, Iowa, and now Notre Dame are having. The Irish look like they'll be missing out on the tournament. They've had a terrible run of luck this year, first losing their two best players in Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell for big chunks of the season, and the Irish have lost some really close games, even with those two out. They've started adding up, and the Irish will have to turn it around quickly if they want to stay in the field.

Also, one of Villanova's guards, Phil Booth, is out indefinitely after suffering a broken hand. It sounds like Donte DiVincenzo will ascend to the starting lineup, and freshman Collin Gillespie (had a broken hand himself earlier in the year) should see a nice uptick in minutes.

there is a YUGE matchup on the left coast tonight at 9:00 central. darker-than-normal #12 Gonzaga faces off against conference rival All-White #11 Saint Mary's on espn2.

if you enjoy offensive basketball, it should be a fun game to watch. for St. Mary's, center and All-American-and-National- PoY-candidate, Jock Landale is an absolute MONSTER, averaging over 20 and 10 while shooting almost 70% from the floor. underrated and under-appreciated point guard Emmett Naar is an absolute surgeon passing the ball, and he currently ranks 2nd in the nation with 9.1 assists-per-game and a stellar 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. superb sharpshooter Calvin Hermanson stretches defenses. Hermanson and Naar are the team's #2 and 3 scorers, and both shoot over 50% from the floor. the Gaels also feature an abundance of role players who are capable of scoring in bunches.

Gonzaga features a very balanced team with 6 players averaging double figures in scoring and 7 averaging 20+ minutes of game action, but strangely there are only two blue collar gym rats in that rotation. super sophomore Killian Tillie has lottery pick talent. the super bouncy and long Frenchman can guard multiple positions with his lateral quickness at 6-foot-10, but he doesn't bring his best effort every night. perhaps he is the first White player ever to not have a "high motor"? freshman Corey Kispert started the season in the starting lineup, but an ankle injury set him back for much of the year. he appears to be rounding back into form, and the high-flying sharpshooter has a bright future ... if he can stay healthy. redshirt freshman power forward Jacob Larsen looks to have a lot of ability, but he has fallen out of head coach Mark Few's favor for some reason. even the Zag fans are at a loss as to why this talent is left sitting on the bench so much.

St. Mary's likes to slow things down and play inside-out, pick-and-roll basketball. Gonzaga likes to force the tempo and take advantage of their depth. it should be an interesting contest.

Some great stat lines today for our guys.

As I've said, I think Luke Maye is THE story of college basketball. He had another massive game today. Against NC State today, Maye had 33 points, 17 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal!!

Matt Farrell and Notre Dame knocked off all-black Florida State today. Farrell led the way with 28 points, 5 assists, and 4 boards.

Even though the Boilermakers lost, Isaac Haas had another massive game today, with 25 points, 5 boards, an assist and a block.

Finally, in a narrow win against San Francisco, BYU guard TJ Haws had 26 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, a block and a steal.
