2016 Hall of Fame Class

Given that in recent years those elected to Canton have been overwhelmingly black, I found it interesting that 8 of the 15 finalists this year are White. The inductees will be announced tonight.

The eight are K Morten Andersen, coach Don Coryell, G Alan Faneca, QB Brett Favre, LB Kevin Greene, T Joe Jacoby, S John Lynch, and QB Kurt Warner.

Favre should be a cinch in his first year of eligibility. All of the others are qualified, but it wouldn't surprise me if none make it. I think Lynch and Warner will eventually, but not this year. Faneca should be a cinch as he was a dominating player year in and year out but isn't well known. Jacoby, a mainstay on the Redskins' "Hogs" during their glory years, would be a veterans selection, same for Coryell. If kickers are going to be considered, then Andersen belongs in the Hall.

Kevin Greene has been a semi-finalist 10 times; this is the first year he's made it to the final cut. Greene is third in league history in sacks, but he's the only player in the top eight all-time who isn't in the Hall of Fame other than Jason Taylor, who isn't eligible until next year. Greene had 10 seasons of at least 10 sacks (third best in NFL history), made five Pro Bowls and was a three time All Pro. He was the Clay Matthews of his era, but is often disdained today as a "one trick pony," even though he was a three down linebacker and was effective in run defense.

Ken Stabler is again up for election as a Veteran's nominee. The feeling is he may be a "sentimental" choice because of his death last year.

It's about time Greene got in. The only reason he wasn't a first ballot Hall of Famer is because he was white and blond on top of that.

His failure to get in for so long is an example of the anti-white racism in football.

I was mildly surprised that Greene got in this year but writers with probably inside information stated it was time for Greene's stats to count for something. Call his rise to election the baseball late ballot surge.

Ps. I think Clay Matthews was a better all around linebacker than Greene but his stats aren't as spectacular because he played similar to a poor mans Jack Ham role. Hopefully Matthews is given serious consideration down the line as a seniors candidate.

Tony Dungy was a successful, above-average head coach. He seems like a pleasant, patient fellow. Nonetheless, can there be any reason other than affirmative action he is being inducted into the Pro Football HOF? Good winning record as Tampa Bay Bucs' HC; but the Bucs didnt win their Super Bowl until Dungy was gone and Jon Gruden was HC. Dungy got one SB win as Colts HC; but that was Peyton Manning's (offensive) team.
Good guy. Better than average coach. Not a Top Tier coach.

I agree on Dungy - it is more of a media creation that he is in the HOF. He is an enigma for sure because he has gone on record and spoken about the caste system and racial funneling but he has done nothing to take the NFL to task yet it seems every year he annually whines about the Rooney Rule. Also I recall his son committed suicide many years back which is tough for any parent but I remember his son seemed to be a very anti-white racist but that was never mentioned by the media, it was swept under the rug.

Though I'm glad that Favre was inducted into the HOF, his speech could easily be added to Jaxvid's old "Weeping Wussies" thread. He started crying on about 10 different occasions throughout the nearly 40-minute speech and had to pause to compose himself for agonizing periods of time. It's always very unbecoming to see a white man conduct himself this way in public, but he's done this before in multiple "retirement" press conferences...

It was also pretty grating to hear to his over-the-top praise for his wife, Deanna, when it was public knowledge that Favre was texting pictures of his crotch to slutty sideline reporter, Jenn Sterger (who was close in age to his oldest daughter) in 2008 while with the Jets. He also sent her voicemails asking if she would come to his hotel room. Here's Favre trying to arrange a sexual encounter to cheat on his wife with Sterger...

At one point, when talking about GM Ron Wolf, he rattled off many athletes he played with in Green Bay. White WR, Bill Schroeder, who had one 1,000-yard season and two 900+ yard seasons working with Favre, wasn't mentioned. To be fair, though, he mostly mentioned players from their two Superbowl teams ranging from 1995-1997. Although he did mention black WR, Sterling Sharpe, who retired in 1994 before their SB appearances. Favre also mentioned OL Marco Rivera (another guy who didn't play on their 2 SB squads), joking about how he "loved smacking Marco on the ass, and he loved it, too!" As we all long suspected, Favre couldn't have cared less about Schroeder as a teammate and they clearly weren't friends like Manning-Stokley, Brady-Welker, Brady-Edelman, or Rogers-Nelson.

OK, so I'll admit to being very biased against the guy! At least I didn't mention his addiction to pain medication, his intentional surrender of Mark Gastineau's single-season sack record to buck-toothed Negro, Michael Strahan, his admittedly poor treatment of Aaron Rogers after he was drafted, his sister being involved in a drive-by shooting, or this...

Life long Packer fan and I am old, and never really been the biggest Favre fan. Just something about him, can't really pin it down. In his later years with the Pack I think he became a locker room lawyer and while he was probably right about his right to be traded to the Vikes I can understand GB's not giving in because of the in division thing. I would have let him go when he asked to and taken the lumps of having the Vikes dominate for a year or two as they did anyway. Eventually Mr. 20 million $ a year would hollow out the team, and they also looked smaller for it even when it was obvious that McCarthy's run first mindset allowed Favre some rejuvenation.

Favre is the toughest player in NFL history and in my opinion best ever QB to play the game. You make the HOF based on how you play the game not based on your personal life decisions and living up to other people's morals and standards. 90% of black players wouldn't be eligible to play let alone be inducted if behavior was included...Favre is one of a kind his resume is ridiculous. His passing yards and tds ridiculous. 297 consecutive starts is unfathomable! True iron man.

PS Favre had only 1 scholarship offer coming out of HS in Kiln, Mississippi and that was Southern Miss.

Very true, his "iron man" streak will surely never be bested by any non-kicker/punter.

He was one of the greats, and with his owning of every NFL passing record, he'd certainly be considered the greatest QB of all time, if only he'd won another SB or two.

This will probably be the last class of players where the majority of players are White, as the two veteran committee guys and Farve and Greene were 4 of 6 players inducted. Also like others have stated Dungy was an AA induction. While a very good head coach who turned around probably the most inept organization in football. Dungy was going to never get Tampa over the top with the poor choice of starting quarterbacks and basic offense(probably due to poor qb play). Also he only led Indy to one title. George Seifert who led San Fran to two titles and has the highest winning percentage of guys not in the hall has never been seriously considered. Neither has Tom Flores who won two titles with a journeyman spot starter.

Ps the media who loves anybody to be non White has never pushed the higher percentage of Native American ancestry of Farve but went nuts off of Sam Bradford being 1/16th Native American. I don't get this one....

Bradford's miniscule Indian ancestry inexplicably shows a fair amount, but he's still considered a White quarterback for all intents and purposes.

There will still be occasional outlier classes that are majority White like this year's was. When was the last time before this year that happened? All black or almost all black classes has been the norm for a while now. Borderline White players will continue to be snubbed (Keith Brooking, Zach Thomas, John Lynch, a number of o-linemen and others) while borderline blacks will keep making it. It's the same dynamic for Cooperstown.

As far as I can tell it was the 05' class which had Young and Marino with veterans committee candidate Friedman. It was a small class of 4, including 2 veterans. I guess the rules have been changed since. With classes that small fringe guys like Dungy would probably have to wait 15 years+ and marginal players would have to wait for the veterans committee.
