Another Tuesday - more MACtion

Akron vs Ohio - WR Austin Wolf can go over 500 yds on the season with a big game tonight for Akron.

Ball St vs Miami Oh - Miami Oh has bowl eligibity on the line. QB Gus Ragland replaced one of my sleeper MAC QBs Billy Bahl and has led the offense throwing 12 tds to 0 ints. WR Jared Murphy can hit the 500 yard mark in rec yards as well. QB Riley Neal was another intriguing young MAC QB coming into the season and has played well exhbiting his dual threat ability

Central Mich vs Eastern Mich - Probably the most exciting MACtion game of the year. CMU QB Cooper Rush is finishing up his prolific career. EMU looks to get to 7 wins and a bowl game for the first time in 20 or so years . QB Brogan Roback is a quality QB, Ian Eriksen is the leading rusher and Pat O'Connor is a legitimate pro prospect on the d-line.

Didn't realize former Ohio St CB/NFL DB Dustin Fox was a commentator - he is calling the game right now.

I'm certainly no fan of Memphis, but glad to see them give Houston and Ward yet another loss. That should drop them out of the top 25.

Technically, I think that was the other starting Safety, Kieron Williams, who's been hyped in Nebraska football media since about the third game of the season when he became the starter.

Still, great to know the Nebraska DWFs watching that play were probably scratching their heads and wondering how a White "boy" could possibly burn one of their precious imported affletes.

Mccarron should of been more heavily involved earlier in the season. Once Vandenberg was lost the Iowa offense lost its identity and they never really gave Mccarron the vandenberg role.

A very satisfying win with Iowa beating Nebraska 40-10. Iowa at least recruits some defensive talent in their state, while Nebraska no longer does. Also, I think Iowa's recruiting rank is about 20-30 below Nebraska's, which proves the bias of the recruiting agencies. In addition, Iowa's OC may have saved his job with the last two Iowa wins.

But, but Nebraska has the much lauded walk on program. which basically means anyone west of Lincoln is welcome to play second fiddle to the real athletes (Though Burkhead was from Texas).

On Iowa’s next offensive play — following a Nebraska punt — quarterback C.J. Beathard executed a perfect run fake, rose up and found wideout Riley McCarron zipping behind the Husker linebackers wide open. McCarron caught the pass in stride and outran safety Kieron Williams to the end zone for a 77-yard touchdown.

Banker said NU bit hard on the fake, and McCarron was open. After that?

“The safety that’s over the top at 12 yards didn’t react,” Banker said. “He was back inside. I don’t know what his original alignment was — inside leverage, outside leverage. But OK, complete the pass, let’s make the tackle.”

Banker said he was surprised McCarron outran everyone to the end zone. Banker may not have known McCarron was an Iowa high school sprint champion in the 100-meter dash.


Well, of course Banker "was surprised McCarron outran everyone". The Nebraska coaches don't have time to recruit a White "champion in the 100-meter dash", they are too busy recruiting real affletes down South. Now, if McCarron had been a black...

OK Nebraska. They look horrible to me. Tommy Armstrong is not even average anymore. He missed a wide open Reilly on several sure long passes/TDs yesterday. Here is the thing. Mike Riley was always an average coach and a putrid hire. His Oregon State team by the time he left was mostly black and unless I am missing something Nebraska's team next year will likely feature on the playing field the fewest white-players in the history of the program. It is doubtful we will see any white WR's , RB's or DB's in any significant role next year and do not count on seeing much in the way of LB's either. They will put up with Riley for a while as he is seen as a "nice guy"( who gives a s) but I see a mediocre future for the Cornhuskers and eventually Riley will be replaced. This once mighty program unlike Bama and LSU seems content to just cruise along at a tepid pace. Hell they have to deal with Michigan, Wisconsin, Penn State and Ohio State every year and quite frankly I just do not see Mike Riley getting the job done.
Elswhere I noticed a back up CB named Bradd Ellis on Ohio made several huge plays to secure the win for Ohio this week.
Ryan Switzer has bounced back the last two weeks albeit I was pissed NC got knocked out of the ACC title game. Switzer will probably get invited to the combine. If he runs anywhere in the 4.4 range he is a lock to get drafted. Anything above say 4.52 then all bets are off. If he burns rubber and runs say a 4.44 40 he could get drafted very high as a punt returner and slot receiver. So I and I'm sure myself and everyone else will be watching his combine performance like a hawk.
Trent Taylor had a decent game last night too but his team lost as well. Taylor will have to put on a show to get drafted. If he somehow is invited to the combine- a 50 50 thing as I see it- he will have to run solid 40 yard dash times to get a look which means nothing over 4.52. In other words much like Switzer his 40 time will be paramount.
I do not know where Texas Tech WR Dylan Cantrell fits in for the 2018 NFL draft( ( I believe he is a red shirt junior this year) but he does have a nice combination of size and speed. Of course it is hard to tell with that offense but he has been putting up some decent numbers this year and had a nice game last night. His teammate Ian Sadler disappeared off the radar this year (injuries?).

We talk about the lack of star white wide receivers on power five conference schools ( heck most schools to be real about it) but just a few years ago we had some hope with three guys. Mike Dudek of Illinois had a terrific freshman campaign showing off deep speed despite being under six feet but his future is in doubt since he has suffered not one but two ACL injuries. He will be back next season but will he ever be the same? Will that coach even bother playing him? Bo Hines also enjoyed a great freshman year at NC State but quickly transferred to Yale ( I have never heard of a WR coming off a sparkling season at a power 5 school only to transfer?) and has disappeared off the radar with nagging injuries etc. I don't think he played at all this year maybe one game? Good grief. Then there is Trey Quinn at LSU. Heaven forbid LSU puts up with having a white with potential WR star. The guy was even local!!! After was it two seasons at LSU Quinn will be at SMU next year. The good news unlike the two mentioned above he has not had injuries so maybe there is hope for him at Cole Beasley's alma mater. But when it comes to white WR's the road to the NFL is like climbing Mt. Everest.

QB - O'Brien/Lee/Gebbia
FB - white guy
TE - white guy
LT - Nick Gates
C - Michael Decker
RG - Tanner Farmer
RT - white in a fight for the spot.

Defense
DE- Natter - in a fight for the spot
DT - Stoltenberg
MLB - Chris Weber
DB - JoJo Domann

For WR's, 6'5 walk-on Bryan Reimers may get a shot to start. He's been targeted a few times this year, and with Reilly, Westerkamp, and Moore all gone, he may have a shot. Don't get me wrong, Shadowlight, that future you predict will be here soon, but I'm not sure about next year. It could be, but there's still a few whiteys that may be playing somewhere other than QB, OL, and TE.

I was watching some of the Toledo/W.Michigan game yesterday and they showed a list of Mel Kiper's (could've been Todd McShay's, can't remember for sure) top five "draftable" WR for 2017 and he had Toledo Jr WR Cody Thompson at number five.
