Joe Fisher from what I've heard is poised to get back to form this year. I sure hope so. Many high school sprinters struggle when they step up to the college level. It's like the difference between high school football and college ball. It's at another level and this can take time to adjust. Also sometimes guys peak at a very young age and it's either stuck in neutral or reverse from that point forward.

Russia has alot of young male sprinters for a change. Hopefully a few of them can break through like thier hurdlers and long jumpers have.

I don't know where you're getting that! Russian men have been remarkably poor in the sprints, and even worse when you consider they are the largest country in Europe.
Last year they didn't have a single guy in the European top 30 in the 100m. And they didn't have a guy in the top 25 European Juniors either.
But much smaller countries like Slovakia, Denmark, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ireland, Czech, Romania, Switzerland are all represented on these lists; not to mention Spain, Italy, France, Britain, Ukraine, and Germany, all have sprinters on these lists.

So actually Russia is really really bad in the men's sprints.

There was two russian guys in the last couple of years in the 10.20 range. Look at the list of russian sprinters opening up their season in the low 6.70's. These guys are very young. There is a slow movement and their mens athletics program is really on the rise. The russisan women have always been fantastic. When the Soviet Union broke up, it killed many of the athletics programs funding. In many parts or Russia, they are starving to death and live in poverty. Athletics isn't exactly on the top of their lists by they were be a power again. Give it time bro.

Sophie Papps, the up and coming youngster from Great Britain, still only 19, with a nice 60m win in 7.31. But even better she ran 7.27 in her semis!
So that puts her 2nd on the European women's list!

I'm excited about her, as well as the young collegiate sprinters we have in the US - Mary Beth Sant and Jenna Prandini.
A bit of renaissance of young female sprinters in the West.

Jenna Prandini now down to a new PB of 7.24 in the 60m.

. . . and Germany's Verena Sailer has the Euro Women's 60m lead with a 7.25 posting this weekend.

Daphne Schippers opens her season with a 7.23. So I believe that gives her the European lead.
Sailer has 7.25 and 19yr old Britain Sophie Papps is at 7.27.

In the US, as I just mentioned, Jenna Prandini is at 7.24.
Hannah Cunliffe down to 7.35.

Unfortunately not much to report in the men's short sprints at this time.

That's great news about all of those women. Even better is the fact that most of them are still very, very young so this bodes well for the future. Wouldn't it be great to see anywhere from 3-5 women who could go under 11 seconds eventually. I really want to see an white american woman go sub 11 and make the olympic team and for an white amercian male to go sub 10. This country could be a hot bed for white sprinters if they can get past the mental brain washing that starts at an early age and never lets up. Believe and you can acheive.

Christian Blum ran a 6.63 for the win today in Germany. His teammate Sebastian Ernst ran 21.00 flat to win the deuce. Great results for this early in the year. Waiting to see Julian Reus and a few other germans open up. Remember that German had two sub 10.10 sprinters last year so this could be a magical summer if they continue to improve.

Christian Blum scratching at World Indoor Championships-Standard
Christian Blum (TV Wattenscheid 01) is four weeks before the German indoor championships in Leipzig in an excellent shape.

With Christian Blum is expected this winter (Photo: Gantenberg)

In an indoor sports festival in Dortmund, the 26 year old than 60 meter winner on Sunday reached an excellent 6.63 seconds and thus had only one hundredth of a second above the norm for the World Indoor Championships in Sopot (Poland, March 7 to 9).

Already in the 60 meter run between the former German indoor champion had drawn attention to its excellent shape with the time of 6.66 seconds.

In addition to Blums 6.63 yesterday here are a few more of our guys starting out the season on a good note.

Adam Zavacky 6.67

Greg Cackett 6.68

Daniel Talbot 6.69

Dariusz Kuc 6.69

Andrew Robertson 6.71

Angel David Rodriguez 6.72

Rytis Sakalauskas 6.73

I would really like to see Rytis get his start down better. Rytis Sakalauskas and Ramil Guliyev both have sub 10 potential but they are always dead last out of the blocks. You would think by now that a descent coach could have fixed their start and drive phase. Well they haven't. Hoping for something different this year. Even Christope Lemaitre has to start better and get back to running low to mid times of 6.50's to be more effective outdoors this summer. The start and drive phase cannot be undervalued. It is the difference between winning and losing as well as medaling or not medaling at major championships.

A new name for me, Carina Horn from South Africa, joins these speedy women with a 7.27 clocking in Austria.
Women's sprinting is looking up.

That's my girl. Christian Blum ran another 6.63! He is so close to the standard.

Christophe Lemaitre runs this weekend. Kilty is also opening up in Austria. Hope both of these guys look good.

Here is a great site for watching videos of races as well as live athletics meets. Check it out gentlemen.

R Lavillenie is amazing. With out a doubt the 2nd best pole vaulter of all time but the world record is not out of his reach. He has
the potential to challenge Bubkas indoor and outdoor records. Hope his performances help to inspire Christophe to return to form!

Our german princess sprinter Verena Sailer won again today running a superb 7.18! It was a very close race. Daphne Schnippers took 4th I believe. There was a new female czech spirnter I have never seen before. She already has a 7.23 personal best. The females are bringing their A Game. Time for the Euro Men to start getting some faster times tonight in France!

A great race by three guys we like finishing 1-2-3 in France today over 60 meters.

Christophe Lemaitre successful launch on 60 m meeting room Mondeville. It has been quite convincing in winning the final in 6.61, the same time that series. The record holder of France's 100 m and 200 m, which does not participate in the World Indoor Championships in March in Sopot (Poland) took the measure of the British Richard Kilty (6.63) and Gregory Cackett (6.67).

Lemaitre will align the next weekend at a meeting of Aubière before confronting February 15 in Birmingham Jimmy Vicaut, who had deposed the last year of his title on 60 m.

Some results out of Moscow:

-Ramil Guliyev 6.70 - not bad for him, presuming his terrible starting technique
-Konstantin Shabanov - 7.56 in the 60m hurdles
-Alexsandr Menkov - 8.30 LJ (probably WL or close to)
-Ivan Ukhov - 2.36 HJ - dominating the indoor season
