You also have to take into account the motivations of the one answering, since you didn't specify.
Are you asking "How would you try to win games?" or just "What would you do if you were in charge"?
It matters because I would answer those two questions differently.
If I were hired as a head coach at a major "big name" school, I would endeavor to purge negroes from the football program as quickly as possible, both selectively and systematically. I would raise academic requirements significantly on day one and encourage the administration to write those requirements into law*. I would harshly enforce personal conduct standards, kicking out thugs and cheaters. I would begin regular drug testing. I would ban music from the locker room and gym at all times.
Give me a few days and I could think up a dozen other ideas that would encourage the mudskins to flee the program or never express interest in the first place.
On the playing field, I would install a 22-I formation offense, occasionally going with 3TEs. All my offensive line recruits would be white as well as all of my TEs and fullbacks (nobody would complain much about those moves). I would run a 3-3-5 defense. All of my linebackers and safety recruits would be white (again, little complaint from the DWFs for those positions). Assuming the prestige alone of my school was enough to win me the highly rated line prospects, a fundamentally sound ball-control offense would be enough to guarantee a winning record for many consecutive seasons. With the passage of time, the culture of the program would be solidified and the perception of the program would likewise be set in stone. Even if I was fired, it would take the next coach at least several years to win back the "black vote" and make them successful.
To summarize, my only concern would be awarding financial aid to my own kind and not my enemies. I wouldn't give a F@%# about winning championships.
(*At any university, there will always be plenty in the administration who hate the football program. Professors, feminisits, coaches of the other sports, etc. It would be easy to quietly get them on your side to force major rule changes regarding academic eligibility.)
