i wonder what it does for Burkhead's draft status... he can still run at his pro day, i suppose.

Line is probably heading straight for a FB role, with at best few token carries/catches (i hope i'm wrong here!)

He needs to run at his Pro day and run a solid 4.5. He will still be drafted but probably much later than expected now.

All of you must be young...Swope's 40 was amazing...but Don Beebe is the fastest ever...he ran 4.25(not sure though if this was combine). Beebe currently runs a speed camp.

Beebe's a great guy I met him at an autograph signing. Cool to see the Chadron State pipeline to the NFL with Danny Woodhead and now Guard Garret Gilkey. Also Don's son Chad Beebe is a wide receiver coming out this year. I want to see what he can do at his pro day!

TJ tore it up in every drill besides the straight line test. If DWFs still think this just another "white stiff" maybe this will change thier mind.

Missouri wide receiver T.J. Moe impresses in everything but 40-yard dash at Combine.

tjmoegrab_medium.gif

Moe led WRs in the shuttle and cone drills, as well as the bench press (26 reps). I can see the caste-clown GMs wanting to move him to TE.

Burkhead's 40 might have been a little disappointing but he finished 2nd in vert jump at 39.0 , 2nd in broad jump at 125.0, 4th in the three cone drill at 6.85, 2nd in the 20 yard shuttle at 4.09, 5th in the 60 yard shuttle at 11.51. He should open some eyes with those numbers.

I was about to post the same thing about Burkhead. He placed highly in all except the 40, which I find suspiciously slow. His broad and vert were particularly impressive.

All of the running backs had slow times. But 4.8 will further stereotype Line.

They were oohing and aahing today about a black RB who ran a 4.60 at 230 pounds, saying it was a great and rare combination of size and speed. Yet Toby Gerhart ran a 4.53 at the same weight at the 2010 Combine and still many of the draft "experts" saw him only as a fullback (and of course he was coming off winning the Doak Walker award). So yeah it likely doesn't matter how well Burkhead and Line did at everything besides the 40, their 40 time will be the easy excuse to "caste" them in their racially correct role. Line may not get drafted, and it wouldn't surprise me if Burkhead is a late pick or also undrafted.

Zach Line's time was lowered to a 4.77. Hopefully with the recent success of Alfred Morris, who didn't achieve as much production as Line in college, someone will give him a chance in a good system.

I was surprised at Burkhead's 40 time, as there were talks he'd be a 4.5 guy. As WL said he comes off much faster on tape. He did have an outstanding vertical leap, which IMO is a greater predictor of explosiveness and success in the NFL.

How many short, slow, black running backs were there? Ray Graham (5'8") and Robbie Rouse (under 5'6") ran times a nose faster than the fullbacks.

Congrats again to Ryan Swope. His prior scouting report of average straight-line speed and subsequent 4.34 did the most to advance white skill players and DWF's waking up I've witnessed in awhile.

Swope seems to have increased his stock tremendously. Some are seeing him as a second round prospect now. From Walterfootball

Ryan Swope had some of the smallest hands at the Combine; they were measured at just 8 1/2 inches. What he did on Sunday overshadowed this, however. Swope ran an official 4.34 40 at 6-0, 205 with a great 10-yard split of 1.47. He also notched a 37-inch vertical and a 10-5 broad jump while looking very strong in the drills. Former NFL personnel man Bryan Broaddus tweeted that he's heard of teams liking Swope as a second-round prospect.

With his blazing 40-times at the combine, coupled with his amazing, prolonged collegiate production (252 catches, 3,117 yards, 24 TD’s) playing in a top NCAA conference, Swope is likely to become a high second round pick like Jordy Nelson (36[SUP]th[/SUP] overall) out of Kansas State in 2008. Here are some “Kodak Momentsâ€￾ of Swope racking up 11 catches for 111 yards (including a 42 yard catch) and a TD in an epic victory over “Nick Saban’s Alabama Chocolate Factoryâ€￾ last November…

With his break-neck speed, elite athleticism, brashness, confidence, and blond locks, Swope is the utter antithesis of the NFL’s heavily-engineered “prototypical player.â€￾

A few thoughts on the combine

I'll admit this is somewhat random:

1) The combine is the best thing ever for NFL personnel guys/scouts. It helps them get out of actually having to work, like watching prospects actually play football.

2) The difference between a 4.6 forty and a 4.7 is almost negligible. Throw in grass/turf, equipment, etc... and the forty is simply the most overrated metric out there. But, it's easier than actually watching prospects play actual football.

3) I have never understood the hand size/arm length thing. Can the guy catch or not? Ahhh, but it's easier to measure hands and arms than to actually watch prospects actually play football.

4) White players need to add one thing to their combine preparation. It would do more for them than any other single thing that is within their control. TAN. Not to look more like the afroletes, but even slightly darker skin shows muscle definition better. There's no getting around that. The combine is a beauty pageant. A few trips to the tanning bed are worth several thousands of dollars. Appearance is very important. These guys are stripped down like in a slave market, and there is a lot of ....... how shall I say ....... queer-like admiration involved with the scouts. The more tan you are, the more ripped you look. None of it has anything to do with football, but it matters a lot.

Absolutely. The idea that a great college player's(black or white) potential in the NFL is based on some drills and not their actual on-field ability and performance is something these "scout" boobs came up with. These are the same guys that give us year after year of draft busts.

To use a black example: Vontaza Burfict last year. The scouts and draft gurus said he was an elite athlete, then he runs a 5.00 at the combine and the draft gurus flip out and call him crap, and he ends up going undrafted. Bengals pick him up and he puts up 127 combined tackles and a sack his rookie year. They based his draft status entirely on his bad combine.

(note we also mocked the claim that Burfict was an elite athlete here at CF, and rightfully so - he isn't, but he has performed well in the NFL.)

I like Werner as much as anyone else, but if I had to choose between the 2 I'd pick Hunt. Supreme athleticism coupled with the heart and drive of an Olympian.

This guy's got super-star potential.

In the make believe world of the Caste System, this equals "journeyman." As Weenieworld informs us:

SMU DE Margus Hunt led all defensive linemen in bench-press reps at the Combine with 38 reps of 225 pounds. Hunt goes 6-foot-8, 277 with pretty long arms at 33 3/8 inches, so the feat is impressive. Hunt, an Estonia native who turns 26 in July, has a journeyman-type background for an NFL draft prospect. He's a projected day-two selection.

Same for Werner:

Two NFL scouts told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that they like Florida State DE Bjoern Werner, but he lacks "special" pass-rushing traits. "He's good, but I don't see the special in him," the first scout said. "Kind of a try-hard, good football player but nothing special." Remarked the second pro scout of German-born Werner, "He's not a dynamic pass rusher but he seems to get sacks. He comes off the ball hard but he's not special."

Is this guy John Boyett white? Anyone know? He put up and impressive 27 reps on the bench. Zeke Motta put up a disappointing 11 however.

its amazing how all of these wanna be draft gurus are putting down Hunt because he dissapeared in some games yet they are hyping the crap out of this guy Ansah because "hes from Ghana, he just learned the game a few years ago, so of course he only has 4.5 career sacks", yet Hunt had better production and has better measurables but is getting the "looks like Tarzan plays like Jane" label. I guess him learning the game a few years ago means nothing?

This just shows the obvious hypocrisy and blatant anti-white rascism that runs rampant. It gets worse every year as well. Two guys with similar measurables (Hunt is the more impressive of the two) yet the white guy gets dragged down and insulted while the black gets talked up due to his skin color.

I was watching a little of the combine and one of the announcers was saying how he doesn't see a black quarterback as a black quarterback but just as a QB yet white players at any of the "black positions" are labeled by all those code words like "blue-collar, hard worker, brings lunch pail to work, not the most talented but gives maximum effort" etc. No one thinks twice about this.

The league is getting blacker and blacker - the black quarterbacks are all getting talked up now and they are here to stay. Each year the number of blacks drafted at QB will increase. The only thing that can change this is for defenses to stop the read option and zone option.

I just watched a few minutes on the NFL Network, where they were wrapping up their coverage of today's events. Chris Rose asked each of the "experts" (Charles Davis, Daniel Jeremiah, Mooch and Warren Sapp) who they were most impressed with. Ansah and "Barkevious" Mingo were the first two selected, with the consensus being that Ansah was going to go in the top ten picks even though he only started nine games in college because everyone was drooling over his athleticism and upside. Sapp then picked Hunt, but then brought up -- I kid you not -- Mike Mamula to compare him to and then mumbled something about the "Eastern Bloc" and began cackling with laughter. Jeremiah then pontificated that Hunt was likely a late second round pick.

How do you put up 11? He must have an injury to his shoulder that he is drilling through. A standard safety should be able to rep out(bench 12 times) 225 with a slow controlled motion. The fast "cheating" style of the combines should lend to at least a few more reps over the standard muscle building movements.

Chase Thomas was expected to be an early round pick and is now seeing his draft stock plummet tremendously.

Chase Thomas has been a prospect who's been falling throughout the draft process. He was unable to use the Combine to halt his collapsing stock. He ran a 4.91 40 and didn't look very good overall. He's a third-day prospect at this point.
