Andy Tanner, White receiver who was with the Saints last year is raising alot of heads this year in camp. Nothing but praise from the coaches, he is running with the 1st string team catching passes from Brees.

They also have Brent Leonhard but haven't heard much about him. is this the year the Saints finally have a White receiver to contribute? The number 3 to 6 receiver spots are up for grabs, they have Colston who is consistent possession receiver, then Lance Moore who is a short possession receiver (many Saints fans compare him to Welker but he gets no yac.) Lance is injury prone, he is the guy the Saints kept over Mike Hass years ago, despite Hass being better in camp, Lance Moore is like 1/16th black, many fans even think he is White, but that little bit gave him the edge. Devery Henderson was the 3rd guy but he is gone. Joe Morgan was supposed to fill his role last year but had like 10 catches, inconsistent, and he just got arrested for DUI a ridiculously high BAC after he had been sleeping in his car for several hours off the side of the interstate. I don't know what they plan to do, despite being a fairly black team, oddly they don't have many criminal arrest problems, although that could be due to how corrupt everything is here. There is Courtney Roby who really isn't a wideout, he is a good special teams guy, mainly at gunner but offers nothing at wideout.

Of course there is the guy they drafted early this year, Kenny Stills? but new receivers usually get some type of injury and put on IR (Im sure many were injured but probably could have came back the same year, I think its because they can't learn the playbook). This happened to Robert Meachem who is no longer with the team (it took him like 3 or 4 years to learn the plays), and last year to Nick Toon.

Regardless, its encouraging to see that he is running with the first team getting reps with Brees. Maybe they can develop some chemistry, I don't think Hass ever got to run with the first team, and many of the other White receivers they have had over the years.

I think the last time they had a white receiver contribute was Keith Poole. That was what 13 years ago? That guy was easily one of the fastest players in the league.

Sharp observation. I have noticed that too with the Lions, who draft lots of receivers early, and especially retarded ones like Charles Rodgers and Titus Young. They typically don't play for a while, often with minor injuries. I think you hit on something. They are essentially being red shirted so they can have the simple plays called for them drilled into their heads.

I also think that is why a lot of White receivers end up on practice squads. The team needs a guy who can come in quickly and fill a role until they can get some low IQ retread from another team and drill a few plays in his head so he can play.

Here's comparison of Chase Thomas's and Jarvis Jones's measurables. Thomas's are from the combine and Jones's are from his pro day. Jones declined to participate in the combine.

Thomas should have been drafted. The only reason he wasn't is because he's white.

NEW ORLEANS — Chase Thomas sat at his family’s Georgia home the last weekend of April, expecting the phone to ring anytime from 8 p.m. Thursday until about 4 p.m. Saturday.
The watched the NFL draft and watched the phone, waiting for it to pulse or buzz.

“I tried not to watch it,†Thomas said. “I tried to move around. I played ping pong. I sat on the deck while we grilled some food. At one point I just had to leave the house.â€

The phone never rang and the standout Stanford linebacker had to reassess the situation.
“I gotta say I was pretty surprised, shocked, disappointed,†Thomas said. “At the same time, everything happens for a reason. I feel blessed to be a part of the Saints organization and given this opportunity to play for the Saints.â€

The Saints, meanwhile, are likely happy they had the opportunity to nab Thomas, ranked as the 10th-best outside linebacker according to NFLDraftScout.com, a CBSSports.com affiliate website.

Thomas (6-foot-3, 241 pounds) finished his time in California having accounted for 27½ sacks to go with nine forced fumbles. And according to his NFL-released draft bio, quarterbacks completed only 16.4 percent of passed thrown his way.

He finished with 229 career tackles, 50½ tackles for loss, 21 quarterback pressures and eight pass breakups.

That he was passed over will only serve to make him stronger, he thinks.
“I guess it does serve as a little more extra motivation,†Thomas said. “You have to work that much harder. But at the same time, I’ve always been a dedicated football player day in, day out. It’s not going to change too much but I may play with that chip on the shoulder, as they say.â€

The 23-year-old isn’t lacking for confidence.

Beginning this weekend, Thomas will be part of the Saints’ annual rookie mini-camp. Five practices in three days that begin to acclimate rookies to the NFL life. And Thomas thinks it’ll be the beginning of a battle that will ultimately end with him sticking on the roster as an undrafted rookie free agent.

“I felt like this was definitely one of the better opportunities to make a team,†Thomas said. “I’ll work just as hard as I would if I went to a team that had a bunch of linebackers. That’s not going to change anything. I do feel confident that I will make the team.â€

Thomas fielded calls from Green Bay, Houston and Arizona before deciding – after talking with new Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan – that New Orleans was the spot for him.

Thomas said Ryan mentioned his versatility is what attracted the Saints into vying for him. At Stanford, Thomas played in a variety of places on the field, blitzing from “different areas†to keep opponents guessing. Ryan, Thomas said, told him he would be used similarly with New Orleans.

“We talked about how he’d use me and all the different complicated defense he has and how he needs some smart linebackers,†Thomas said. “Not that they don’t have any smart linebackers, but he was saying I could add on to that list as a smart linebacker who understands the defense and can pick it up pretty fast and has played in a 3-4 defense before.â€

I don't mean to nit-pick as it was a great post. I don't think it will be possible to watch the Saints at all this year. The only way I will re-consider is if Tanner, Leonard or Thomas make the team and get meaningful playing time.

I really like these NFL "team previews" and think we should aim to complete every squad by week 1. If we can do it for the 100+ college teams, the NFL should be a breeze. Plus we already have done the Patriots, Steelers, Broncos, Saints, Buccaneers, Jets and Bengals (anymore I'm forgetting?). I'd definitely do a few more when I feel inspired (more like angry) or get the time.

Chase Thomas has a good shot to making the team and getting into the rotation, they are switching to the 3-4 and have no proven pass rushers, just guys that have shown flashes. Chase Thomas is the only guy with actual experience in the 3-4, and plays OLB, well Victor Butler who was a backup under Rob Ryan but he has a knee injury now. With the defense everything is in the air right now, Will Smith is slated to be the starting OLB but he is like 290 pounds at this point and would be suited to play DE. I think the only positions set on defense right now are inside linebacker. Rob Ryan has been high on Thomas. Jim Leonhard has a shot of making it and being in a nickel/dime package role like he was last year with the Broncos. I was watching some games from last year and I was surprised at how many Whites got to play db in pass d packages, guys like Colt Anderson who I thought would never get a shot.

as far as Herring, despite the protests of dwfs, he has managed to stick around several years and has had some significant snaps. (Gee, maybe its because he is the only linebacker that doesn't do poorly in coverage, which used to be Shanle but he has aged)

and Pierre Thomas is not a scat back, he is 5'11 209 pounds, 4.65 speed, usually has a bruising style of running but can't stay healthy with a big workload, very good at receiving. There have been a ton of White guys at the small college levels with a similar or better skillsets that never even get a tryout, some not even on our radar.

Yeah Nick Toon is black, son of a former player I believe. Andy Tanner is on the outside looking in, if he doesn't make the regular season roster then he is screwed, his practice squad eligibility is up, but they really are thin at wideout. Colston who plays more like a hybrid wr/te role, without the blocking, Jimmy Graham who plays a hybrid te/wr role, with the blocking. Lance Moore, smaller slot receiver, no yac, great at finding the holes in the zone though but injury plagued for his career. The 3rd wideout with any experience had 10 catches last year. Stills was drafted this year, but like Nick Toon who was drafted last year, and Morgan who was picked up the year before, and Adrian Arrington who was picked up before that, and Robert Meachem who was drafted in the 1st before him, will most probably be put on IR this year (you should look some of these guys up, some on IR for a minor toe injury). He has already been on unable to perform list so isn't doing much of anything. People are saying he didn't pass his physical. Oh yeah there is Courtney Roby, the overachieving black player that dwfs love because of his special teams ability but can never contribute to the passing game, no matter how many chances he gets, but unlike White special teams demons (who don't get the chance to showcase themselves at their positions), they still hold out hope that he can do something else.


Jed Collins might have one or two games where he gets the ball a lot with Sean Payton back coaching. He only does this against teams that aren't expecting it. When Payton coached with Bill Parcells he tried to throw in some plays involving the fullback getting the ball, Parcells scoffed at the idea that the fullback should be any more than a battering ram. So when he finally got to coach against Parcells, Saints vs Cowboys a while back with Mike Karney, Karney had 3 tds that game a combo of rushing/receiving. The sad part is that Karney could have had multiple games like that.

but I do agree that Jed Collins could fill in the role that Mark Ingram was drafted to be, or at least the role Ingram is in now. Collins didn't have a blazing 40 (neither did Ingram) but he had a 4.08 shuttle, compared to the 4.62 20 yard shuttle Ingram had, and a 6.9 3 cone shuttle.

I forget Ingram's but it was much slower than that, and you can see it when he runs, plodding, slow to make cuts, has to really gear down and then the dwfs blame the coaches for his lack of production (all they do is run him up the gut, how can he produce?) they never considered, thats probably all he CAN do, at least decently. There are many debates about why did the coaches get rid of Ivory or why don't they give Thomas a majority of the carries and about how the coaches don't know what they are doing, but if you ask why isn't Andy Tanner or any other White player getting a shot its "the coaches know what they're doing". Strange how they never see through that double standard. In this case, the coaches are like dwfs, hoping that Ingram pans out like the 1st round pick that they had to trade back up to get.

I wouldn't degrade Brees that much for his pre game antics. This is the roster he is stuck with, he doesn't have a say like Peyton Manning, as we saw with Brady, he doesn't have a say either, restructuring his deal to keep Welker only for them to let him go, he still just happens to be on a White friendly team. I am sure Brees would love for a roster to be like that of Purdue, with Vinny Sutherland, Chris Daniels, Matt Light etc., but he is stuck with the coal black Saints and he makes the best of it, and I am guessing does what he thinks he has to do to motivate these black players, because before him the Saints had the loser mentality.

I’ll also continue to write some NFL team previews as time permits. Given that there are infinitely more white players on rosters during training camp and pre-season, I find it more enjoyable to “summarizeâ€￾ an NFL corporation prior to the “Great White Purge of September.â€￾ I like to focus on teams that are heavily-white or heavily-black (consequently eliciting either wrath or kudos), as opposed to squads that are neither.

Naturally, I despise the coffee-hued Saints, as I do almost every NFL team aside from New England, Denver, Houston, Green Bay, Minnesota, and to a certain extent Dallas, St. Louis, Miami, and Philadelphia.

He could not figure out how to stop this team who was supposedly less talented but had a great scheme using the single wing. He consulted NFL guys like Bill Parcells and John Gruden how to stop it, only to get killed like 58 - 7 or something. The offense had 12 designed plays.

I think NFL coaches try to overcomplicate things a bit, although I am all for 19 word plays because it tends to keep black quarterbacks out of systems that use them. Its just sucks because the ones with black quarterbacks are simplyfying things like on the college level. We'll see how defensive coordinators respond next year to the new surge of black quarterbacks though. See if they really are spending all of that time in their office eating fast food.

Another of the great myths about the NFL is that the coaches "work harder" than the common riff-raff do. This is akin to the absurd contention that the largely fat or obese linemen in the league have a "year round job" with "no offseason." Well, if they do, it's a job that never requires them to be in shape.

We have been told repeatedly that NFL offenses are "complex." This has even been used as a reason why some white players haven't been able to "learn" a given team's system. Meanwhile, we are supposed to believe that the likes of Randy Moss, Corey Dillon, Marshawn Lynch and other noted scholars can master them easily and perform at a high level. Not to mention, of course,the idea that rocket scientists like Michael Vick and Cam Newton quickly grasp the "nuances" and "intricacies" of these complex playbooks. Yeah....right.

As for coaches having man boobs, why not? Most of them are still actually in better shape than the sumos that waddle around the field.

I think the long hours is a ruse to cover up that what they do is mostly nonsense, such as first person to leave the building is not dedicated so fire him. One or two smart people watching film could pick out tendencies then these could be relayed to the rest of the org, but no a bunch of numbnuts have basically a contest to see who can last in the film room the longest.

Saints receiver Andy Tanner learned his craft in an unorthodox, and slightly painful, way. And for a while, he had the cuts to prove it.

Tanner's coach at Rockwall (Texas) High School used to toss bricks to his receivers to soften their hands. It was a technique Hall of Famer Jerry Rice once used growing up as the son of a Mississippi brick layer.

As Tanner recalled Sunday after practice, it wasn't his favorite drill.

Well Will Smith, the over-hyped football player not the over-hyped actor, is done for the year with a torn ACL. It would have been entertaining to see this sumo attempt to play OLB in Rob Ryan's new 3-4 defense. Dang it! Since Chase Thomas has already be cut, there are no White players who could benefit from Smith's injury. I hope Thomas excels somewhere else and really burns the Saints. To hell with them.

for all of you that like to diss Drew Brees calling him zulu warrior or whatever, Andy Tanner is the first White receiver that he has been able to work with quite a bit on the first team offense (unfortunately Mike Hass worked out with the 2nd and 3rd string qbs only). Due to injuries this is the first year Brees really got some reps in with Tanner, this is what Brees had to say

After the nationally televised Texans-Saints game, there seems to be even more buzz about Andy Tanner. Those of us who have followed the Saints for quite some time already know about Tanner, and were already extremely familiar with his story. Tanner entered the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

After an interview today with Drew Brees, there’s even more reason to root for Tanner. Brees said this,

“He is a guy that has meant so much to this team even though he maybe hasn’t seen the field in active duty action in the regular season yet,â€￾ the Pro Bowl quarterback said. “He’s a guy who’s on the practice squad who makes play after play throughout preseason and offseason. We know his opportunity will come. We all just have so much respect for him.â€￾




we know his opportunity will come, so Brees obviously believes the guy has talent to play, its just a matter of what the Saints organization does. Apparently the magical Courtney Roby who hasn't done anything at wideout for 8 years is irreplacable on special teams, so its going to be a tough cut, and another black guy Preston Parker hasn't done as much at wideout, but apparently his special teams value is higher, with just one return for 51 yards that wowed everyone. Nevermind the fact that after both td catches Tanner went down the field to make the tackle. Has there ever been a case of a White guy NOT being able to play special teams? I mean seriously

The Saints are "on the verge" of signing their own 1st round bust Robert Meachem who was with them for several seasons sucking it up. Looks like if he is signed Andy Tanner is sure to be cut.
