The U of A Wildcats beat the NAU Lumberjacks 35-0. BJ Denker ran for 71 yards and had two touchdowns. One rushing and one passing. The Wildcats ran for over 300 yards so the passing stats were below average. It was a one sided game with out a doubt. It wll be interesting to see what this BJ Denker kid can do throughout the season. He has incredible speed with his legs but will his arm be strong enough? Only time will tell but I like his leadership so far. He is very confident.

Tommorow is going to be a big day with tons of games to follow. Looking forward to the first full weekend of college football.

a couple of players that i've not seen mentioned ...

Bowling Green sophomore wideout Ryan Burbrink had a 67-yard punt return for a touchdown in their season opener against Tulsa. i don't know if he was a sprinter in the past, but he looked like he was on fast forward to everyone else's being on regular play as he split the coverage then cruised easily into the end zone. he also added 2 catches for 24 yards.

for Tulsa, their most productive receiver was athletic former quarterback, sophomore Derek Patterson. he had 3 catches for 45 yards, including a 27-yard touchdown catch-and-run. Patterson was one of the top hurdlers in Oklahoma in high school and also high jumped 6-feet-4. he's got a bright future.

*****************************************

it should be a national story, and hopefully it will be talked about extensively on ESPN Gameday today ...

Texas Tech's Baker Mayfield is the first walk-on true freshman to start a season opener at quarterback EVER in a BCS conference. as celticdb noted, he threw for over 400 yards and 4 touchdowns, but he also accounted for another touchdown with his legs and didn't have a single turnover. wow!

new Red Raiders head coach Kliff Kingsbury says Mayfield plays with a "huge chip on his shoulder," and it's easy to see why. without understanding the Caste System, it might be hard to understand how a player this talented could be "overlooked" by the recruiting "experts," even after winning a Texas state championship at Lake Travis.

*******************************

also in the SMU-Texas Tech game, SMU freshman running back/wide receiver Collin LaGasse (who also won a state championship at Lake Travis along with Mayfield) got a lot of snaps late in the game (and 3 touches) and looked solid. hopefully this bodes well for his future, as the Mustangs are definitely in need of some playmakers on offense.

backup tailback Preston Line looks to be a more complete player than the afflete who started, especially in the passing game. with SMU rarely running out of traditional power sets, his diverse skill set may help him leapfrog the room-brightening-smile ahead of him.

Anyone know why Brendan Kay isn't starting for the Bearcats? That scum Tuberville is probably already showing his true colors by starting a quoataback named munchie instead.

6'-5" WR Jordan Taylor(Rice) owns A&M in the 1st Half...5-61-1 TD(That will be on ESPN's Top 10 Plays)...had a nice 15 yard rec taken away by a HORRIBLE call for Illegal O-Lineman downfield)

QB Taylor McHargue 73 yds rushing on 7 carries (1st half)...12-19 153 yds passing 2 TD's

RB Turner Peterson(Rice) 4-25-0 was looking good til he got hurt.

What's up w/ Ohio State's New Breed SEC defense?? Buffalo WR-Alex Neutz 9-98-1...being held in the end-zone is simply too athletic!

there was a lot of White talent on the field today in the Boston College-Villanova game. 4 starting White wide receivers, two starting White safeties, White linebackers and d-linemen galore, and two White quarterbacks (one a traditional dropback guy, the other an explosive runner who struggles throwing the ball). there was even a White tailback on the field a lot, though he rarely carried the ball.

Alex Amidon was simply uncoverable today against the Wildcats: 13 catches, 142 yards, and a 49-yard touchdown catch-and-run. virtually all of his yards came after the catch, as Rettig couldn't connect with any downfield throws today (the only exception being the td, where Amidon was so wide open he literally stopped and waited for the ball to finally get to him, then sprinted about 20 yards into the endzone).

also in the game, freshman linebacker-turned-fullback Bobby Wolford had 6 catches for 84 yards and a touchdown for Boston College.

the top 5 receivers for the Golden Eagles on the day were White men, and it looks likely to stay that way for much of the season as it's obvious who the top targets are: Amidon is the go-to guy, 6-foot-5 sophomore Dan Crimmins is the other top wideout, Wolford at fullback, Dudek is the only tailback who can catch or pass protect (in fact, BC called a pass on every snap Dudek was in the game except for his 4 carries), and on the rare times they look to the tight end (former walk-on) CJ Parsons is the guy.

**********************

Villanova's young quarterback John Robertson has a bright future, but right now he's only a threat to either run or throw underneath. he has terrific speed (13 carries for 97 yards in the game and was called the "lightning" to the black tailback's "thunder" repeatedly by the announcers), but he didn't connect on a single pass to either of his two starting outside receivers on the day (both are White men, by the way). he repeatedly missed on his throws down the field and clearly felt more comfortable throwing to his slot receivers (Villanova runs 4-wide as their base set) underneath. still, there is a lot of talent on the Wildcats team, and they appear ready to live up to their preseason hype as a challenger for the FCS title.

their two White safeties looked pretty good, as well.

BYU started three White wide receivers and three White defensive backs, including the boundary corner, today at Virginia. i wonder how long it's been since something like that has happened ...

it's obviously still early in the game, but the BYU cornerbacks (considered the weakness of the defense) have been outstanding in man coverage. the two safeties, Sorensen and Bills, are terrific. even the announcers have been admitting that.

I've been impressed with the way Temple has played today against the hyped up Notre Dame defense. Their QB Reilly looks like a future stud and they have a nice sprinkling of white skill players and linebackers.

Temple's O-Coordinator reffered to Sr wideout Alderman "as a guy you'd pick 8th in a flag football game". He also pulled the classic line that WR Christopher "looks like a kicker".

Well looks can deceiving ****head all Alderman has done so far is catch everything thrown his way and show off some wheels and agility!

it's still in the first half, but Zach Zenner has already run for over 100 yards and 2 touchdowns, including another long one (36 yards). this guy might be the best running back in college football today, regardless of level.

So far, overhyped black quarterback Logan Thomas is something like 5/25 for 56 yards, 0 TD 1 INT. To think there were some draft "experts" that had this turd as a first round pick in next years NFL draft. Of course, this may not stop some caste-ian GM from reaching on him due to his limitless "upside"

BYU's very-White defense played outstanding in the loss to VA, forcing 13 punts (that's not a typo), holding the ultra-affletic black quarterback for the Cavaliers to a 118 yards passing (1 td, 1 int), and only giving up 112 yards on the ground. the two White cornerbacks who played (rotating on the boundary, for the most part) were completely sound, giving up no big plays and only 1 (that i saw) completion total when in man coverage. BYU never had fewer than 3 White defensive backs on the field.

so how does a team with defense that stellar lose? poor special teams play and their quarterback spent most of the night getting knocked down.

BYU's offensive line, traditionally an area of strength, was severely outplayed by the VA d-line. i wonder if it had anything to do with all the affletic diversity the Cougars brought in ... in fact, Virginia started more White o-linemen (3) than BYU did. wow.

a fumble and a dropped pass-turned-interception by BYU's affletic tailback accounted for two very short fields for the Cavaliers and resulted in their only two offensive scores. again, wow.

BYU quarterback Taysom Hill has a LOT of work to do to improve his passing game, but the biggest question mark going forward for the Cougars is, "What are they going to do to fix the offensive line's problems?"

as a side note, it appeared the only consistent downfield threat in the passing game for BYU was 6-foot-6 wideout Mitch Matthews. he has HUGE hands and a vertical of (if i recall correctly) 37 inches, so he's literally a big target. while he drew more pass interference calls than he had catches (only 1 for 10 yards), if he and Hill can find some chemistry, that should make for some fun football.

Walsh had the highest QBE in the country last year. Even though Chelf was named the starter, I fully expected Walsh to take over the job and dominate this year. Look for OSU to be in a BCS bowl in January.

In other news, Western Kentucky TE Mitchell Henry is leading the Hilltoppers with 5 rec for 56 yards at halftime against Kentucky. Tight Ends in Petrino offenses typically see a lot of action. If Henry is "the guy", he should have a very productive season.

South Dakota State may have found a passing attack to help prevent defenses from stacking the box so heavily against Zenner ... 6-foot-6 junior wide receiver Jason Schneider has exploded tonight: 9 catches for for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns, and the game is just entering the 4th quarter.

if he keeps playing on this level, the double major in pharmacy and chemistry should have a shot at Academic All-American.

not sure if they are starters but been seeing a White de and a White safety for LSU. You would think there would be more White dloinemen, would save roster space, every other play one of these sumos is tapping his helmet to come out of the game to get a breather. I guess not as important in college where you can have like 80 players

A few small tidbits:

Not big numbers, but WR Andy Erickson led Texas State in receiving with 3 catches for 37 yards in their victory over Southern Miss.

The aforementioned Mitchell Henry finished as the leading receiver for Western Kentucky with 6 catches for 65 yards and 1TD in their victory over Kentucky.

Corey Robinson, who, for some insane reason, was in jeopardy of losing his starting job to a black quarterback, had a near record-setting performance in Troy's victory over UAB. 30 of 32 for 319 yards and 1TD. Now that's what you call efficiency.

In the "General Good News" department:
Transfer black quarterback Brandon Mitchell, who was given the NC State starting job solely because of his skin color, broke his foot in the game and will be out half the season.

Well, the Wyoming-Nebraska game was very entertaining tonight. It ended 37-34. That new all-black defense was absolutely atrocious for Nebraska, giving up over 600 yards of total offense tonight. Nathan Gerry and Josh Banderas both played a lot on defense for Nebraska off the bench tonight, playing decently for true freshmen.

Much of Nebraska's defensive problems can be attributed to the superb playing of Wyoming QB Brett Smith. This kid is a playmaker. He shredded the "vaunted" Blackshirt defense tonight, going 29/43 for 382 yards and 4 TDs! He also added 8 rushes for 92 yards. He's the best QB in the Mountain West this year. RB Brandon Miller also started tonight, getting 9 carries for 28 yards, and 5 catches for 63 yards. True frosh WR Tanner Gentry also started, getting 2 rec. for 20 yards.

On the other side, QB Taylor Martinez was good as well, going 17/22 for 155 yards and 3 TDs; he also had 16 carries for 77 yards.

Mixed results this week - Logan Thomas sucked which was great but McGay and his negrophiliac life partners over at BSPN are doing their best to blame the team around him - they went as far as saying that they would rather draft Thomas because of his "upside" rather than McCarron. This is all after he lays a huge egg tonight.

It looks like Pachall is done - he will be splitting time with a black quarterback and his once promising career and options at the next level are nil at this point.

Murray did not come up big in a big game and now all the DWFs will be clamoring for the midget Boyd.

Glad to see the freshman QB for PSU play well in his first start.
