Tonight is the start of "Championship" season in college football, with the first conference championship game being the Big East, er, I mean American Conference game pitting Louisville against Cincinnati. If you haven't seen him play yet, tonight would be a good opportunity to watch Cincy's underrated signal caller Brendon Kay. He has one of the quickest releases I've ever seen to go along with excellent accuracy. He's also among the leaders in QBE this season (which I'm in the middle of compiling).

On paper, these teams are mirror images of each other, statistically speaking. They both are among the best in the country at defending the run. Louisville's overall stats are slightly higher, but they also play one of the softest schedules in the country. It will be an interesting matchup.

AAC doesn't have a championship game. If UCF wins their next game they're AAC champs by default. If they lose and Cincinnati wins their game then the team with the higher BCS ranking goes to a BCS bowl.

I'm rooting for Northern Illinois to win over Bowling Green tomorrow night even though BG might be the whiter squad, just because of Jordan Lynch. I want to see him get as much exposure and success as possible. Also rooting for Ohio State to win just because I'd rather have them play against Florida State than Auburn (assuming they beat Missouri of course). Hopefully Stanford can take care of business against Arizona State, and Baylor beat Texas.

Thanks.
Wasn't paying attention. Just knew that all the conference champ games were this weekend.

In any case, Cincy has shut down Louisville pretty well. If not for the mistakes, this game would still be deadlocked.

The MAC championship game starts shortly. It will be another tough matchup for NIU as Bowling Green has one of the better defenses in the country. This game will be played indoors, so look for far more passing and far less running out of Lynch. Not ideal for his Heisman chances, but the victory is what counts.

Bowling Green's defensive strategy is obvious. They're just pinning their ears back and bull-rushing forward into the line with as many people as possible. It has worked so far because NIU isn't spreading the formation.

Northern Illinois gave up 17 points in the first quarter. Their defense is getting torched. Need to fix this fast or they're screwed.

Northern Illinois all-afflete secondary can't cover or tackle. They have allowed wide open receivers on at least half the passing plays by Bowling Green.

This game is really pissing me off. Their defense keeps getting burned for big plays. I really want to see Lynch come back and win this game but two missed field goals by the kicker and a tip interception have them down by 10 headed to the 4th quarter. Still haven't given up hope yet but they can't give up more than another field goal on defense and they have to score quickly. It would be so cool to see Jordan Lynch go to NY as a Hesiman finalist and even better to see him in a BCS Bowl Game. He has the all time college qb single season rushing record with almost 1900 yards. Wow is that incredible! Come on Northern Illinios.

Coach Carey did not have his team prepared for this game, on either side of the ball.
And maybe this season will teach him something about putting together a defensive backfield. Better to get the best white DBs in the country than the 107th best black DBs.

Its still upsetting for Lynch's season, not like he had a real chance at the Heisman but I wanted to see them go undefeated and go to a big bowl, and it would be a lot easier to say he got screwed over had things gone differently tonight.

Maybe its a better thing because last year their offensive line was just overmatched and he got stuffed from what I remember, and didn't look good in their big bowl game. I think thats the area where its harder for the MAC to compete with bigger conferences, linemen, since big schools still recruit top White offensive linemen, especially in the big 10 area, although they did recently have a top linemen come out, I just don't think the talent is evenly spread out across the board.

Do they have a guy similar in talent behind Lynch? I remember thinking it would be tough to replace Chandler Harnish but along came Lynch.

Matt McIntosh was recruited by Jerry Kill, so he's the same type of player as Harnish and Lynch. I think the current staff prefers "their" guy, though, Redshirt Freshman Drew Hare. I don't see how either of them can be as good as Lynch and Harnish, though. For that, we'll have to keep our eyes on Nelson and Leidner and Minnesota.

I was at the game. The NIU defense looked BAD, 11 skinny black guys got pushed around and out smarted by a White o-line with a few skill players mixed in. Jordan Lynch did not play well. His passing was inaccurate, he forced the ball into bad spots, and his running was nothing special. Unfortunately he played himself out of consideration for the Heisman in this one.

taking a quick look at the FCS playoff match-ups today shows me that there are an abundance of White playmakers that will be featured.

here are the games that intrigue me the most:

- South Dakota State vs. Eastern Washington -

SDSU features possibly the best running back in collegiate football, Zach Zenner.
EWU features freshman phenom Cooper Kupp at wide receiver.

- Eastern Illinois vs. Tennessee St.

EIU, the #2 overall seed, features possibly the most dynamic passing attack in collegiate football. Jimmy Garoppolo is the quarterback who runs the show, but he has three explosive White wideouts to throw to in Erik Lora, Adam Drake, and Jeff LePak.

- North Dakota State vs. Furman

NDSU, the #1 overall seed, features a nearly entirely White team, excepting the tailback and cornerback spots. mobile quarterback Brock Jensen calls the shots, with his main targets being the gifted Zach Vraa and explosive Ryan Smith, both of whom are former track stars. Christian Dudzik is a playmaker at both safety and punt returner, with 2 touchdown returns on punts this year and a team-leading 3 interceptions.

Earlier today announcer Matt Millen reminds us...that Jordan Taylor(Rice) "is NOT the fastest guy"...then the 6'-5" WR proceeds to blow past the Mogadishu/Marshall Thundering Herd defense for a 75 yard TD! He had 6 receptions...131 yards in trhe 1st half!

Earlier it was said some NFL Teams have Blake Bortels on Top of the QB Board...

Keep an eye on (Oregon transfer) Dual-threat QB Bryan Bennett-SE Louisiana (who can throw out of the pocket)...he led his Team to Southland Conf Title...has 934 yards rushing this season so far w 14 TD's; (four 100+yd games) + 2,610 yds passing & 18 TD's...they face Sam Houston St...a team they just beat 3 weeks ago.

Jimmy C...Thanks for mentioning WR Cooper Kupp(77 -1,378 -18) I should have mentioned him more...that will be a nice match up vs FCS Rushing Leader Zack Zenner(1,944 yds + 22 TD's) & 6'-5" 220 WR Jason Schneider (72- 1,007 - 10)!

Eastern Illinois has scored 37 points in the 1st half behind Garoppolo's 220 yards through the air and three touchdown passes. each of the three White wideouts i mentioned earlier has caught one of the touchdowns, and they've accounted for 183 of the receiving yards.

no score yet in the NDSU game, and SDSU-EWU is just about to kickoff.

Yeah a commentator for the SMU game, I think it might have been Brian Griese listed his top quarterbacks for the draft, he had Bortles and then I think it was Manziel, pretty sure, I know it was a White qb, so had to be him. Then it was Bridgewater and he had some negative things about Bridgewater, saying he had athletic tools but wasn't impressed with him this year, and honestly he hasn't been impressive. I wonder if he will get in trouble for that.

Bennett has been a pleasure to watch live, dude is the whole reason they are even in the playoffs imo. There was a lot of hype about him among coaches when he transferred and he sure has lived up to them, exceeded them actually.

SEC Championship is worse than usual. 2 black QBs and hell even the referees seem to be majority black.

Eastern Washington freshman wide receiver Cooper Kupp just tied Randy Moss for the most-ever touchdown catches in a single season at the FCS level, with 19. what an amazing talent this youngster is!

the record-tying score came on a 40-yard strike.

*************************

Zach Vraa already has gone over the 100-yard mark receiving in the first half for NDSU. he has 5 catches for 112 yards and 1 touchdown, a 52-harder.

versatile wideout Ryan Smith has also been productive. he has 1 catch for 39 yards and 2 carries for 27 yards.

How has Zenner done so far, just turned it on. That red field is harsh on the eyes.

he's not had much room to run. EWU is daring the Jackrabbits to beat 'em with the pass, and so far Sumner hasn't managed to hurt 'em very much. he's mainly connected on underneath stuff and hoped for his receivers to make a play after the catch … sadly, the announcers have correctly commented on his lack of accuracy and how it's hurting the yards-after-catch potential of his guys, even when they manage to catch the ball.

yards have been tough for ZZ Tops to come by in the first half, but he did manage to score a game-tying touchdown late in the second quarter. he is just 4 yards shy of the 2,000 yard mark for the season. it'll be the second consecutive year that he's gone over 2k.

*************************

Eastern Illinois put it on cruise control in the second half, going on to defeat Tenn. St, 51-10. Garoppolo completed 17 of 26 passes for 240 yards and 3 touchdowns. the White Flight of Lora, LePak, and Drake combined for 15 of those connections for 203 yards and all 3 touchdowns.

************************

midway through the third quarter, NDSU is up 17-7. Ryan Smith has 3 carries for a game-high 55 yards as well as 4 catches for 86 yards. Vraa hasn't caught a ball yet in the second half.

Affirmative Action ref in the SEC championship game is bad at speaking in the microphone.

Oklahoma State's team leader in tackles and 2nd in interceptions is their lone White defensive starter, middle linebacker Caleb Lavey. Every time he made a play against OU, he was given the typical back-handed compliments about "he's not the fastest, but..." "He's a great college linebacker, but I'm not sure his skill set will translate to the pros..." Completely unnecessary and irrelevant commentary to the game. Additionally, I highly question whether the commentator was privy to any of Lavey's measurables or draft stock, he only knew Lavey is White.
