Here are your white starters for the Fighting Irish and Brian Kelly this year. Some white reserves to watch out for are TEs Alex Welch and Ben Koyack, LT Jordan Prestwood, LG Conor Hanratty, C Matt Hegarty, RG Nick Martin, RT Tate Nichols, DEs Tyler Stockton and Chase Hounshell, NT Tony Springmann, OLB Ben Councell, ILBs Jarrett Grace and Carlo Calabrese, SS's Dan McCarthy and Chris Salvi, and CB Cam McDaniel. Since '05, Notre Dame has started 10, 11, 11, 11, 10, 10, and 11 white starters. It looks like the Irish will have 12 white starters this year, more than in any other year since we've started tracking them! The Golden Domers are definatly a team to cheer for this year, 12 white starters and a TON of white reserves. So far, it looks like head coach Brian Kelly is pretty fair to white players, judging by both his tenures at Notre Dame and Cincinnati.

Offense
WR- John Goodman- in a fight for the position
WR- Robby Toma
TE- Tyler Eifert
LT- Zack Martin
LG- Chris Watt
C- Braxston Cave
RG- Mike Golic
RT- Christian Lombard

Defense
ILB- Dan Fox
OLB- Danny Spond
SS- Zeke Motta

Finally some positive news on one of these write-ups. I've been a fan of Coach Kelly and glad he's Whitening the program. It should make them top contenders again. Just as encouraging as the 12 starters are the numerous White backups at non-caste positions. Go Irish!

Jack,

Austin Collinsworth is expected to be out at least 4 months -- maybe the season -- with a torn labrum in his shoulder. http://espn.go.com/college-football...hting-irish-s-austin-collinsworth-miss-season

Notre Dame safety Austin Collinsworth could miss the 2012 season after undergoing surgery recently to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

The Fort Thomas, Ky., native was expected to see significant time this season behind starters Jamoris Slaughter and Zeke Motta, as Notre Dame often plays three safeties in its nickel package. Notre Dame is also replacing two starters at cornerback.

Bringing back Dan McCarthy for a fifth year has proved to be a great move in hindsight, as he and former walk-on Chris Salvi look like the best bets to move into Collinsworth's role. In addition, the Irish return Eilar Hardy and likely welcome back Chris Badger from his Mormon mission. And, of course, their 2012 recruiting class is loaded at the position, with Nick Baratti, C.J. Prosise, Elijah Shumate and John Turner expected to arrive this weekend.

I still think cb Cam McDaniels natural position is running back but he has moved up to second string at corner from 3rd in spring to Fall Camp. Its a long camp these things can change.

[h=3]Golson handling spotlight as season nears[/h] August, 8, 2012 Aug 8

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Everett Golson arrived fashionably late for his first preseason media session Wednesday, looking wide-eyed at the scrum of reporters waiting to speak to him.

"I don't know, it's crazy," Golson said of how to handle the attention. "I don't really know. I guess this could be like a little pressure, I guess. You just gotta go through it and just deal with it."

[+] Enlarge
Cal Sport Media via AP ImagesEverett Golson is the most likely starter for Notre Dame's first game on Sept. 1 against Navy.

The situation has taken a considerable turn for the 19-year-old in one short year. Just trying to get his grips on life as a college student in 2011, Golson has gone from Notre Dame's No. 4 quarterback option last season to the probable front-runner to take the first snap Sept. 1 against Navy.

The circumstances — and the backdrop of Dublin, Ireland — have not been lost on the sophomore.

"Honestly I had dreams about it, seeing visions of it — just me being out there, the crowd and everything," Golson said. "But I think that's what motivates me to keep going, keep driving and learn as much as I can."

A breakout spring game and the ensuing arrest and one-game suspension of incumbent starter Tommy Rees have put the spotlight on Golson, who completed 11 of 15 passes in April's Blue-Gold game for 120 yards and two touchdowns, adding 25 yards on the ground.

Golson said he has tried to avoid the recent attention that has come his way from the media, classmates and friends back home in Myrtle Beach, S.C., attributing last season's redshirt year as a reason he can stay grounded.

"Sitting out definitely helped me," Golson said. "I came in ready to play, ready to compete for the starting spot. And it kind of was like, 'Wait a minute …'

"It made me step back a little bit and realize, Maybe I have to mature a little more. Show the guys that I was a leader. That I could be the leader of that team. I can honestly admit that last year I wasn't really ready for that. But I think that's what going through the scout team procedure was. [It] just kind of humbled me and really humbled me so I could get back to what I know how to do."

Coach Brian Kelly said that Golson and Andrew Hendrix have split most of the reps through five practices, though Golson has run with the first team during tempo drills in the two sessions open to the media and took the first snap of live action Wednesday.

Golson completed 2 of 6 passes on one drive, which ended with defensive end Kapron Lewis-Moore picking off a screen. On the next drive he went 4 of 7, fumbling a snap after drawing the wrath of Kelly before the play.

Kelly said after the spring game that Golson had trouble getting plays in on time, something the signal caller feels he has improved upon in the nearly four months since.

"I think it's moreso me just slowing down and calming down and relaxing, and don't try to be too antsy but also work at a quick pace," he said.

Hendrix went 4 of 6 during live action and was the victim of a pair of drops.

The third-year sophomore, who saw reserve action behind Rees late last season, said keeping the focus inward rather than outward has made for a healthy competition.

"I really just focus on myself — that's the only way you can focus on it," Hendrix said. "Just focus on your play every single play. When everyone else is going it's getting your reads behind them. I think you just gotta keep your own head down, keep chopping wood and at the end of the day coach Kelly is gonna make the decision, what's best for the football team. I can only control what I do and that's all I focus on."

With 24 practices over the next 24 days standing between now and the season opener, Kelly is keeping his options open at the position.

"I've played two quarterbacks before and had great success with that," the third-year Irish coach said. "We'll know if we get to game time that both of them have to play. Obviously they both have ability to be starters, so I can't say that I wouldn't be comfortable. I'd prefer one quarterback. But at least I've got some experience in balancing two if we would ever have to do that."

The negro Golson will start for the "Irish" in their opener in Dublin.. On a positive CB Lo Wood tore his achilles should be good news for Cam McDaniel and apparently during camp he's been at both corner and runningback!

Screw Kelly for screwing over three white QBs - Rees, Hendrix and Kiel to put his black quarterback in as starter.

So it looks like it'll be a coal-QB match in Dublin. How wonderful. The real Irish will probably assume this is a "black" position.

Ya sure it must just be a "conicidence", maybe trying to dumb down the Irish so they can import more Nigerians and Somalians into their country. I'll be cheering for Navy to knock out the thin Golson who is genereously listed at 6 foot 185lbs. I'll be cheering for John Howell and Bo Snelson at wing backs for the academy!

Gunner Kiel needs to consider transferring. It sounds like Kelly is going to stick with the quotback for his remaining eligibility - Golson is a sophmore right now. Kiel needs to do the math.

My god, how bad does this black quarterback suck?

On the plus size, lots of whites on both sides of the ball tonight. Also, the black quarterback cant play and is very small. He will be benched soon enough.

With Rees, I count 13 white starters! And tons of white subs. This is our team now that the black quarterback is on the bench.

Rees deserves the starting job.

Yeah he does. The coaches have put their full support behind Golson who had a horrible outing against Michigan. If the Irish want to win they should start Rees! Any bets on how long it takes for Tommy to get in? I'm thinking at least by halftime if ND's defense gives up a few big plays and Golson continues to perform the way he has. Miami's offense seems pretty legit, Notre Dame 's going to need to throw the ball around to keep it close.

What the hell is going on in south bend? Gunner kiel is now transferring and Kelly is planning for 3 more years of Golson followed by his 2013 black QB malik zaire. The 2014 class has offered 3 QBs and they're all black too! Wtf

I wish Kiel would have stayed because he might have beaten out Golson. Golson didn't prove he is that good. He was mediocre at best lat year and played poorly often. As soon as Golson started playing poorly next year, Kiel would have gotten his chance, if he already didn't beat Golson out in preseason.

Why does Kelly want running qb's? I thought he would have more pro style qb's. Goslon isn't even that much of a runner anyway.

Doubt it, Golson had a plethora of ****ups this year and Kelly refused to even think about benching him.

Here is a video of the 1966 opener with sophomores Hanratty and Seymour starting at qb and receiver respectively. Of course, this was their first game since they couldn't play as freshman. I think they might have played a few freshman games back then.

Look at how good they look compared to Golson and many other players at other schools during their first year playing, who sometimes look like they have never played.

Golson is no longer enrolled at ND according to Comcast. Gunner Kiel made a big mistake. He should have waited one more year. Even if Golson was still there, he probably wouldn't keep the job. He didn't play too well in the spring game.

Great news! Hopefully Hendrix gets a chance now. It sucks that Kiel didn't stick around.

edit: NVM Looks like Kelly has yet another black quarterback waiting in the wings...Malik Zaire - that's an irish name if i ever heard one.

Now watch as 75% of D1A coaches trip over each other in a race to sign this overrated black quarterback. My guess is that he ends up on the West Coast. Possibly UCLA.

Not to steal Extra points glory, but for those who don't know(It hasn't been stated in this thread) Gholston got kicked out for cheating on a test.

Honestly, not that great of a scenario. Once Rees leaves its three of Malik Zaire. Brandon Dawkins a black quarterback out of california also committed to nd yesterdat.

Rees was a hundred times the Qb Gholston was and saved ND several times. I think they are a better team with Rees under center. They may not have as good a record though as there was plenty of luck o' the Irish during their season last year. Gholstons poor game against Alabama should have opened up the job for competition but not with the present racial politics. This is good for Rees though and hopefully they have a good year before going back to an all black quarterback system.

Cheating on a test? I imagine that's true of every affalete on the squad. It has to be really blatent for the senior Qb to get popped for that.
