My quick count has us at about 60 white players drafted, and last year was also right about 58-59 players. Not many centers were drafted, and loads of CB's. That alone accounted for about 3 less whites getting taken. Edited by: referendum

Well, here's hoping that Maehl, Satz..., and Herzlich sign on somewhere where they'll get a fair shot even though they haven't received a fair shot yet. They should have some anger flowing through them right now and hopefully can channel that into being impressive with the opportunities they're given. I can't imagine Cleveland not signing Satz as a free agent. The Cleveland WR's dodged a bullet.

Zero RBs and none of the WRs will be starters for a long time (if ever). The TEs might not see the field for a while, either.

Denver signed one...Mike Mohamed, LB. He'll be easy to spot on their defense, assuming he gets a chance to play.

Well, never thought I'd already miss McEminem, but he now looks so much better than what they have now. Have to give McEminem credit for taking Tebow when he did...and Decker as well.

At least Elway didn't draft a QB.

Leonardfan, Thanks for the list. I must add though that the Jets added a QB, Greg McElroy for a total of two white guys.

One other thing. I'm disappointed in all this as well. But at the same time I'm suspicious of it all. I don't think these owners are stupid people. This whole draft may come apart with the way things are in the league. Then it'd be every man/team for himself. We'll have to wait and see what happens. This is not as ironclad as it seems.

St. Louis was easily the most disappointing team in this draft. Just awful.

<DIV =msg>Isn't "Mr. Irrelevant" always a white player?
So they can laugh at him?

They don't laugh at Ryan Succop, Hickory High School, Hickory, N.C.,University ofS. Carolina. Mr. Irrelevant 2 years ago. I watched him in high school kick 60 to 70 yds. now kicking for Kansas City and doing a fine job. Should be around for 10 to 15 years.

It is interesting to see a negro drafted last for a change. Still, just by numbers alone, not a good draft. Some teams drafted well from a caste perspective, some did horrible.

We shouldn't expect much more than 60-65 players drafted each year. This is around what it has been in recent years since I started coming here, and it won't change anytime soon.

All we can do is hope that a large portion of the large number of talented white players still out there get a decent chance in NFL camps this summer. History says most of them won't, but I guess we've got to keep trying.

And the Steelers are nothing but a bunch of sh*t.

These numbers are pretty consistent. Since I have followed its anywhere between 50-60 white players drafted a year with no real deviation one way or the other.

I think one reason for the disparity in whites drafted and whites in the league is that so many make it as undrafted free agents. This year of course we will have to wait to see who gets the UDFA nod, due to the lockout.

Take away the field goal kicker, punter and long snapper -- very rarely drafted and almost always White -- and the NFL would be about 25% White, roughly the same amount as are drafted, though Whites tend to get drafted more often in the later rounds. It's very difficult for White players drafted after the third round to get a decent opportunity, and they often have to serve lengthy "racial apprenticeships" before they do. For the undrafted White players it's even more difficult to get a shot.An undrafted playerlike Blair White (who should have been a second day draft pick) getting playing time like he did as a rookie is a rare exception.

The only thing preventing the league from being significantly less White than it already is because so many of the blacks drafted early are busts.Edited by: Don Wassall

One has to figure that many of the corner-blacks will be cut.. same for several of the black linebackers and sumos.

Add in the Fragilis Africanus Factor, and one can see how some undrafted Whites' can get their feet into the league.

This sucks. Maehl shouldve been taken. At least there is always a chance at undrafted free agent, but because of the lockout, we won't know who will get a chance.

I actually had Durham as the best receiver out of the bunch so its good he was drafted, and Prosinski as the best Safety. I thought Maehl was 2nd to Durham in ability, different skillset, like a runningback after the catch, but screwed over. McKnight is good but and can be an above average player, but I didn't think he was better than Maehl watching the games. McKnight suffered from playing in a crappy offense so didn't have the stats, but Maehl still has better agility imo. I thought Maehl was better than Whalen as well.

Many of these affletes picked, I recognized some of their names because I saw them play while watching white athletes. I don't recall any of their play sticking out. Most of them seem like camp bodies, we have guys that went undrafted that could start on day 1 and be top in the league.

I guess having so many of our guys going in the early rounds kind of messed it up for the other positions later on. Its like they said "hey we don't want to have TOO many good receivers that are white, lets only let only give white dlinemen a shot this year." I mean McDaniels is practically pushing out Danny Amendola with two lesser slot receivers from Hawaii. I don't consider Salas to be white and I have watched him play and is not as good as some of the whites we had, and isn't better than Amendola. One thing is always right, the ratio stays around the same. We may get more white receivers one year, but more black offensive linemen, this year we got more white defensive linemen, and got more blacks at everything, the top center/guard was a sumo. The first time in ages that a guard/c even went that early.

But I have hope that most of these guys will do everything possible to get a chance. I mean Maehl was on the the team that went to the national championship and had over 100 yards on the "nfl caliber SEC".Edited by: dwid

Exactly, Don. I used to tally upthe racial makeup of 53 men rosters and draft picks fromabout 1993until about 2004 and it almost never changed, leading me to believe along time agothis was/is a rigged game, as in real life their would almost certainly be some fluctuations from year to year or decade to decade? In that 12 year span, 31 to 33% of 53 men rosters were white (counting all the NFL teams) year-to-year. Meanwhile, 26 to30%of draft picks were white from year-to-year. It seemsthe number for white draft picks, unfortunately, has dropped to like 26 to 27%in recent years, mostly due to more OL and DL sumo's being picked?

The difference in the roster and draft percentages (then and now), of course, is due to the fact that very few PK's,punters and LS' are drafted and they are almost all white. So, that's 3 extra whites on 53 men rosters and most were undrafted...Again, that's 3 more whites (a PK/P&LS)divided by 53 men (about 5.7%) added to the current 26 to 27%drafted and you get about 31 or 32% total....Of course, not all draft picks make teams. But the white draft picksthat don't make teams, tend to get replaced by white UFA's, keeping the numbers very stable and predictable.

I also agree 100% with Don on these guys drafted after round 3 having a tough road ahead. NFL.com did a study a few years ago and found something like only 10% of players drafted from rounds 5 to 7 will become starters or stay in the league for more than 5 seasons....This means many guys we root for -- Sash, Whalen, Neild, ect. -- will likely be gone in just a few seasons.

P.S: As I found last November, even the number of white practice squad players mirrors the NFL total, when you factor in very few kickers and snappers are on practice squads.

This is clearly a planned event. There is little or no happentance involved, otherwise the randomness factor would ensure that the average number of white players drafted wouldn't be virtually the same every year. The same thing goes for roster sizes, which can only reach a certain level of whiteness before it has to be corrected. That's obviously what happened to Green Bay. They will have less whites this year.

Riddlewire has this exactly right. There are no good coaches. They all love thugs and favor blacks over whites, because they love getting that fat paycheck and the adoration of the jock sniffers in the media. As was also noted, these guys are not stupid. If they were actually trying to build winning teams, they wouldn't continue to load up on subpar blacks that fail to pan out on an interchangable basis season after season. And once again, the few white skill players or high profile defensive players continue to go to teams where they will not have a chance to start. The randomness factor, as noted earlier, ensures that this sort of thing could not just happen as frequently as it does.

For whatever reason, the tptb in the NFL ordered all teams to stay away from the two best white WRs. That's the only explanation that makes sense. The quota system is in effect here as well; white WRs have made too many inroads over the past few seasons, thus the "baffling" failure of all teams to draft Maehl and Sanzenbacher. They will be signed as free agents, but there is no chance that they will play, wherever they go. They will get the Mike Hass/David Ball treatment. Blair White was a real anomaly, and I don't see that happensing again any time soon. There will be regular threads here about Maehl and Sanzenbacher being strung along by some team, signed to their practice squad and cut multiple times. We know the routine very well.

New England will almost certainly phase Woodhead out. Hillis looks pretty safe for a fair amount of carries again, but never underestimate Holmgren's influence there, without Mangini to counteract him. And there is always that "Madden curse." Gerhart's role will not increase, and no one will be interested in trading for him. After this atrocious draft, I don't know how anyone can doubt that this is a conspiracy. Edited by: bigunreal

Well its best to hype up our players because dwfs consider white players selected in the later rounds nothing more than special teams demons. Sash could be a star. I don't know if it can affect the coaches but it can make fans upset on why Sash isn't playing when their secondary is getting torched every week. All you have to do is look at his highlight video, he was better than Ed Reed out there with the amount of picks he got, except he was bigger and actually tackles/hits hard.

save the doom and gloom post. Nothing has suggested Woodhead will be phased out. None of the guys selected have a better skillset, none of them can pass block either, which is key to being a 3rd down back in Bill's system.

The drafting of Marecic kind of seals the deal of Hillis being the primary ball carrier as well as getting on the cover. The best part is, Marecic plays THAT much harder when he has a back like Hillis who fights for every yard, I noticed a decline in his blocking last year with Gerhart gone, he didn't play with the same intensity. I don't think they are gonna limit his carries by saying they are afraid of a video game. We are probably going to see a Thomas Jones/ Jamaal Charles type timeshar, with Hillis getting well over 200.

Gerhart has a great chance of getting more opportunities, Peterson showed signs of wearing down last season, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen more this season.

Maehl and Sanzenbacher weren't the two best white receivers, Durham was. I guess they don't want the trend of every team having a (white) Welker type slot receiver on their roster, because that is where the NFL was starting to head with guys like Amendola/Shipley getting to play. We have enough guys to fill every slot position in the NFL. Everyone tries to minimize the skillset of these guys, but in the modern offenses that teams run, they are basically extensions of the running game, short passes with yac, runningbacks with none of the glory and called unathletic. It is at least good to see an outside receiver like Durham get drafted, just wonder how long before he is used, like Nelson and now Cooper.

As far as the coaches, I don't know how many of them are fully involved 100 percent in making these decisions when it comes to drafting.

as far as being strung along, it happens, but Amendola finally got his chance, even though McDaniels might take it away, but got it, Welker got his chance to. Eventually a coach is going to want to win, similar to Bellicheck with Welker and Woodhead and give one of these guys a shot. Amendola was supposed to replaced by Gilyard last year who was supposed to be a super star, it never happened. Unfortunately McDaniels is a coach that will sacrifice winning in order to put his guys, unless he learned something in Denver, I doubt it. Blair White wasn't the only udfa to get a shot, like I just mentioned, Amendola and Welker as well. I don't see it any different from the walk on thing in college. Teams know they can get white players for nothing without risking anything, if they succeed they get a great player, if not they lose nothing, meanwhile drafting black scrubs so they can put that money right back into the economy, or in the case of NCAA, filling racial quotas.Edited by: dwid
