Great news. Another black QB bits the dust. Does that leave Freeman and Vick as the lone "entrenched" starters? McNabb will be replaced at some point this season I predict. Campbell, Jackson and Newton could be replaced if (when) they suck.

So that leaves us with 6 starting black quarterbacks in the league, Vick, McNabb, Jackson, Newton, Campbell, and Freeman. I can see Newton and Jackson being easily replaced.

McNabb is injury prone and way past his prime.

Newton is unproven and should struggle early and often.

Campbell is mediocre.

Vick is overrated and injury prone (and not a young guy anymore).

Jackhole is just awful.

Freeman is decent but will play a tougher schedule this year. Would be such a shame if his sumo line cannot protect him.

I've been waiting for this news for a long time. Under former GM Harris Jacksonville was almost explicitly using black QB's only, so this marks the end of AA for QB's in Jacksonville. A great day for football in North Florida. Now, if we could get Zach Miller and Brock Bolen involved in the offense, give Prosinski the starting job, and find a white wide receiver, we'd be on to something.

That game will likely be Carolina's first victory and, probably, Newton's best performance.
Jacksonville is a franchise in turmoil. They beat a poor Tennessee team. However, despite that being Hasselbeck's first game for the Titans (and inexperienced with their playbook), he still threw for 260 yards (62%) and 2TD on Jacksonville. In the loss to the Jets, Sanchez exposed their swiss cheese secondary even more (71%). Factor in the lack of an established starter for the Jaguars, and we can expect Carolina to get an abundance of opportunities to torch the Jacksonville defense.
Unfortunately, it looks like the stat padding might continue for a while for Newton. At least until they face the Redskins in week seven. They might be 1-5 when they get there, but Cam will probably be in the top three in passing yardage at that time.

Interesting comment here from Weenie World about Jax not needing another receiver who lacks "separation skills." Hmm, aren't all of Jacksonville's receivers black? And aren't they by definition supposed to be faster than White receivers? Surely it isn't because of their superior brain power or hand-eye coordination that 95% or so of the NFL's receivers are black every year.

I often read too about slow defensive secondaries in addition to slow receivers. Yet these same observers will seemingly swear until the day they die that blacks are much faster than Whites.

Jaguars claimed WR Brian Robiskie off waivers from the Browns. The Jaguars didn't need another receiver who lacks separation skills, but perhaps GM Gene Smith had a high grade on Robiskie coming out of Ohio State in 2009. He won't be a fantasy factor in Jacksonville's putrid passing game.

Free Agent bust alert!

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/432461/clint-session

Session placed on IR: The Jaguars placed LB Clint Session (head) on injured reserve Tuesday. LB Kevin Bentley was signed to take his roster spot.
(Updated 11/22/2011)

Fantasy Analysis

Session was injured Week 11 and his IR placement ends a disappointing first year with the Jaguars. He didn't prove to be the playmaker he was with the Colts. Drop Session in all IDP formats.
(Updated 11/22/2011)

Really weak stats this year.

By MARK LONG AP Sports Writer
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. November 29, 2011 (AP)

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired coach Jack Del Rio on Tuesday after a 3-8 start, parting ways with the franchise's second coach during his ninth season.
Del Rio's job security had been tenuous since owner Wayne Weaver said the coach needed to make the playoffs to secure a 10th season in Jacksonville. The Jaguars were essentially eliminated with Sunday's 20-13 loss to AFC South-leading Houston.
The timing of the move made sense since the Jaguars are struggling to sell tickets and host a Monday night game against San Diego. Defensive coordinator Mel Tucker was named the interim coach. The team scheduled a noon news conference to discuss the move.
Del Rio leaves with a 69-73 record, including 1-2 in two playoffs appearances. The Jaguars didn't win the AFC South in any of his nine seasons.
Weaver considered firing Del Rio after last season, but kept him partly because of the uncertainty surrounding the NFL lockout. Weaver refused to give contract extensions to any of Del Rio's assistants, putting everyone on alert that this was a win-or-else season.

Del Rio refused to let offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter and linebackers coach Mark Duffner interview for lateral positions. He couldn't stop quarterbacks coach Mike Shula, whose contract ended, and receivers coach Todd Monken, who returned to a college job at Oklahoma State, from bolting.
Given the situation, the pool of coaches wanting to come to Jacksonville was small, so Del Rio had few options while rebuilding his staff. Del Rio hinted this season that his hands were tied in terms of what he could to assemble the best staff.
Fans have been clamoring for his departure for years, with many calling for him to be fired following a 5-11 finish in 2008. Instead, Weaver parted ways with personnel chief James "Shack" Harris and selected Gene Smith the general manager.
Smith has rebuilt the roster over the last three years.
But the Jaguars have shown no progress under Del Rio's leadership.
Del Rio's tenure will be remembered for putting an ax and a wooden stump in the locker room in 2003, settling up a situation in which punter Chris Hanson hacked into his leg, and for repeatedly failing to properly handle quarterback situations.
He announced he was benching Mark Brunell and giving rookie Byron Leftwich the job in 2003 before talking to the players. He insisted Leftwich was his starter in 2007, and then cut him days before the season opener. He did the same thing to David Garrard this season, cutting him five days before the opener and naming Luke McCown the starter.
McCown was benched after two games.
The Jaguars have been inept most of the season with Blaine Gabbert under center. The 10th overall pick in April's NFL draft has been rattled under pressure, has been inaccurate on short throws and doesn't appear to be making much progress.
Del Rio said Monday he was sticking with the rookie.
It turned out to be the coach's final decision in Jacksonville.

Black Rio is gone... well, no matter what happens it can't be worse from our point of view, two starters on D and how many on Offense? i steer clear from them. Maybe Brock Bolen will get an occasional carry now?

It's been a good few days -- Black Jack, Zook, Erickson and Gill all fired. There are always more Caste hounds in the pipeline to take their places, but still it feels good.

With Del Rio gone the GM Gene Smith has signed a 3 year contract extension. Smith has been considerably more white friendly than his predecessor the racist Shack Harris.

Gabbert has looked pretty bad this year, hopefully he can make improvements over the next few games and be better going into next year. If they get an offensive minded head coach with a knack for developing young QBs that would be great news for Gabbert.

Looks like Weaver sold the Jags to some Pakistani. Greedy piece of garbage. Could of sold it to some American born American. Here is to wishing doom for all eternity on that disgusting franchise. :icon_twisted:

While I would also like to see the franchise in the hands of a White Christian American, I find myself wondering if it might not be a wonderful thing for an insurgent muslim to own a team in the Zion Football League. Assuming he's not just an atheist oil sheik, this Khan fellow might be an effective agitant to "business as usual" by the Disney/NFL corporate hybrid.
Although, upon considering for a few seconds more, I realize that the other owners have to approve of him first before he can buy a team. So he's probably already part of the NFL's cult-marx plan. I don't know. I guess we'll see in a few years.

I have always wondered how "Black Jack" managed to hold on to his job for so long, despite one mediocre season after another. During his 9 years (including 2011) at "Blacksonville", he had only had two good ones, 2005 & 2007. He should've been fired either after the 5-11 2008 season, or most certainly after the 7-9 2009 season, but it never happened. His overall coaching record of 68-71 speaks for itself.

He also had a Jeff Fisher-like infatuation with black quarterbacks. First it was Byron "Fat Albert" Leftwich, then it was David Garrard (whose backup was another black quarterback named Quinn Gray after Leftwich was cut). Add the rest of the coal-black roster over the years, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out why that franchise has been a rather lousy one for most its existence.

That excludes the early years, when a relatively White-friendly JAX made the playoffs for 4 straight times and won 4 playoff games. After the Del-Rio era began, they made the playoffs only twice and won 1 stinking game in the postseason in 8 years.

Foobar, in fairness to Jack, it was ex-GM James Harris that really got the ball rolling with the black quarterbacks. Garrard was there before Jack or Harris, but he was only seen as an ABSOLUTE backup to then 32 year old Mark Brunnell, who was coming off his best career season ever...Nonetheless, once Harris came in, the very talented and popular Brunnell was gone and Leftwich was drafted to replace him. At one point, Jacksonville had 4 or 5 black quarterbacks on their roster during the pre-season. In 2004, or so, Pete Prisco of CBS Sportsline wrote an article about Harris only wanting "black QB's", which Harris strongly refuted....Amazingly, a few annonymous NFL GM's told Prisco off the record "Harris was trying to make up for lost time" with all the these guys.

What's that mean? Harris was one of the first black QB's in the NFL in the 1970's. Although I don't remember him as a player, I know he made a Pro Bowl with the Rams. But was run off to SD once the Rams signed a washed up Joe Namath....In SD he started for a while when Dan Fouts held out for more money, but once Fouts came back it was back to the bench for Shack Harris. So he became outwardly bitter and complained openly to the media about the plight of the black QB....Is it any surprise that once he became an NFL exec he tried to change things all by himself, hence: "Harris was trying to make up for lost time"? I've tried to find the Prisco article, but (not surprisingly) it has been deleted from the Internet.

If I'm not mistaken, Del Rio fought with Harris after Leftwich became an obvious bust. Word is Jack badly wanted Brady Quinn to replace Byron, but Harris decided to lavish Leftwich's backup (Garrard) with a huge contract....Jax was most certainly very white unfriendly because of Harris, who is now with the Lions. When Jack finally got a QB he wanted (Gabbert), it was too little; too late.

Marxist Media was already openly rooting for Harris in the 1970's?

I think Harris is #12 in the Topps Card above, although he does not appear in the Box Score, which is very odd???

The photo is from the 1974 NFC Championship game in which Harris was the Ram QB. The box score is for the 1976 NFC Championship game, Harris' last as a member of the Rams. That day he was Number 2 to Pat Haden. Harris warmed up briefly early in the third quarter with the Rams behind 17-0. When Haden led a touchdown drive, he sat back down.

Harris had good stats with the Rams but was prone to making mistakes in big games.

Thanks for clearing this up sport historian. Wow, how odd is it that a Topps photo of the '76 NFC Title game would feature a player that did not play in the game? I guess their photographers/card printers must not have been knowledgeable football guys?

By the way, just found Harris' stats. You are correct, he was decent with the Rams, but was horrific once he went to the Chargers:

I collected Topps baseball and football cards as a kid, and they were always known for making lots of mistakes, both in photography and screwing up stats. They were a monopoly for a large part of the time period between 1951 and 1981, which may have caused them to be lackadaisacal in such things.

As far as the Jags, I agree that Harris deserves a significant part of the blame for the organization's long period of mediocrity as well as its ultra-blackness for several years, but I won't exculpate Black Jack. He was a willing participant in fashioning the team's demographic makeup. When the HBO series Hard Knocks focused on the Jags, I watched several of them and Del Rio played a large role in deciding who was cut and who stayed. He also babied the thugs on the team; that's been the norm in the league for a long time but in Black Jack's case it came back to bite him because he lost control of the overwhelmingly black "locker room" years ago. He also was an eager participant in the humiliating and diminishing of Matt Jones, who with his laid-back personality never had a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding while in Jacksonville.

Good points, Don. Let me clarify: Even though I believe James Harris was more to blame for the team's downfall -- both in terms of their record and chasing away the fans, I'm not a fan of Del Rio's and was not sad to see him fired. While I don't think he's a total Caste whore (ala Mike Tice) as some here believe, he was not someone we here at CF should be rooting for. My fear, however, is if the Jags don't get a Gruden or Cowher, they might hire a head coach that is even worse....a Marvin Lewis or Dennis Green type, because this team has never had a black head coach. So even this modest gains made since Harris was fired, will be swiftly wiped away.

Don't forget, the ultra-liberal Paul Tagliabue pushed Harris on ex-owner Wayne Weaver. Basically he said I let smallville (Jacksonville) have an NFL expansion team, now I need you to do me a favor -- hire this "promising" black GM, that worked for Ozzie Newsome in Baltimore. David Stern did the same thing to the Toronto Raptors in the mid '90's. No doubt about it, Weaver paid Harris' checks, but Taglibue got him hired. That's a well know fact in NFL circles.

Jags new owner might even go out of his way to lose in the short term. If the Rams head back to LA due to Stadium issues, there is no doubt this Kahn guy will try to go into St. Louis -- He's from Illinois and wanted to buy the Rams first and foremorst....A bad team Jax. could help expedite the move.

Thanks for the info about Harris and Tagliabue. A GM has more to do with putting a team together but the head coach usually has the last word on cuts and trades.

The head coach is the one who deals with players day to day. He used to be something of an authoritarian but for the last 30-35 years the influx of blacks meant a coach had to "relate to players." This type of coach may do all right for a time but eventually he loses the locker room, as Don said.

In the past teams usually tried to hire the complete opposite of the previous coach. If you had Parcells or Ditka, you would get a Dungy or a Marvin Lewis. Things maybe different now that the NFL is 2/3rd's+ Black. I know in baseball it's still like this and in hockey too. I too remember sports cards from the old days with tons of errors. My favorite cards were of a player on his old team who got traded in the middle of printing season and they would type traded across the front of the playing card. A few times two cards would exist for the same player in a yearly set.
