Yet another in an endless parade of black first round busts. Donald Brown was a first round pick in 2009; last year's first round pick, DE Jerry Hughes, wasn't even active for the opener against Houston:
Colts coach Jim Caldwell confirmed Wednesday that Donald Brown is without a role on offense due to "a production issue." It's about as strong an acknowledgement that a first-round pick was a bust as you'll get from a head coach. NFL.com's Week 1 gamebook shows that Brown was active for the Colts' opener, but he didn't receive a touch or play a single offensive snap. He'll be passed by undrafted rookie Darren Evans in short order.
And on the epidemic of black injured players front, Pat Angerer will move over to MLB (hopefully permanently) and be about the only Colts defender able to tackle Peyton Hillis on Sunday.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell has ruled out MLB Gary Brackett (shoulder) and LB Ernie Sims (knee) for Week 2. The Colts haven't revealed the nature of Brackett's injury, but it's another unneeded blow to an Indianapolis run defense that has no prayer. Look for Pat Angerer to move from the strong side to middle linebacker, where he'll start against the Browns. WLB Kavell Conner is expected to play Sunday, but is battling a bum left foot. Philip Wheeler figures to start at Sam. Peyton Hillis will be the best matchup-play running back in the NFL this week.
