Digging around on the old high-school prospects thread here at CF, I came across Storm Klein, who did pretty much everything at his high school, safety, linebacker, stud running back, punter, you name it. He's now a sophomore linebacker for the Buckeyes. Probably a kid we should keep our eyes on. As noted in his Bio, he's also a good wrestler and baseball player.

Buckeyes' Hall Doesn't Make Grades, Will Redshirt

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State sophomore offensive tackle Marcus Hall will redshirt the 2010 football season, due to academic problems.

Buckeyes spokeswoman Shelly Poe announced the decision on Friday night.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound, product of Glenville High School in Cleveland played in nine games last season for the Buckeyes as a true freshman. He was expected to be a backup this season. He will still have three more seasons of eligibility.

In a statement, Hall said he was trying to look at his situation as a way to get better both in the classroom and on the field.

Many schools that start recruiting black QBs (and actually start 1 or 2 in a row) seem to stay with black QBs for long periods of time, no matter how poor or well they actually play. It is a disturbing trend, but not a unique one. It is just one of the many ways the Caste System degrades the overall level of play so that the blackletes can compete.

CBS Sports has Pryor as the 5th ranked quarterback for 2012. I predict he will be another Akili Smith once he makes it to the NFL.

It looks like Andrew Sweat has beaten out fellow Black junior Etienne Sabino for one of the Linebacker spots for their season opener.Sweat is a linebacker with alot of tools and should do well.The Buckeyes could have as many as six white starters on defense

Just saw Ohio State's official depth chart. It's a little confusing because they list 12 starters on defense, but out of the 12 six are white, so I'm wondering who ESPN will show as the official starters for each game.

Anyway, it's a mixed bag on defense. 3 whites starting on D-line (Williams, Larimore, and Simon), and 2 of 4 backups (Garrett Goebel and Adam Bellamy). I guess that's better than most teams.

For LB 2 out of 3 are white (Homan and Sweat), but only 1 of 4 backups (Storm Klein). This is a little off from what Ohio State has had in the past.

In the defensive backfield, out of 11 starers and backups, only 1 is white, starting Star Tyler Moeller.

The good news on offense is that even though only 3 of 5 OL starters are white (Boren, Brewster, and Shugarts), all 5 backups are white. For the rest of the offense, both TEs and FBs are white, but only 1 of 5 WRs on the two deep (Sanzenbacher)

And of course we know the greatest athlete to ever step on a football field is the Buckeye's QB, but should a high ankle sprain set him aside Joe Bauserman is the listed backup, who walked on after playing 3 seasons in the Pirates farm system!

Ohio state started 5 whites on defense because Nathan Williams was out with injury. His black backup committed a foolish personal foul long after the QB released the ball. In terms of the rotation, Ohio State had anywhere from only 2 whites on defense (for a few plays in the 2nd half), to 7 at any given time.

Sanzenbacher looked good, but the announcers were praising Pryors "relationship" with Posey. Even Pryor would be dumb not to seek out Sanzo more often, it can only help his "Heisman campaign." Also, don't know what it means for the rest of the season but Grant Schwartz got notable playing time in first and 2nd half and pulled in 3 passes. 10 of Pryor's 18 completions were to white players (3 for Sanzenbacher, Schwartz, and Stoneburner, and 1 for Adam Homan). Also #83 Joe Cech got in the 4th quarter but was not thrown to. He's a walk on, and maybe he will continue the streak of white WRs playing for OSU. Anything's possible!

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Before it became certain he would return to football,
Ohio State's Tyler Moeller heard the doubters and their questions.



At times, he might have asked the same ones of himself.



"There were all these questions, 'Are you OK?'" Moeller said. "I
read all the [online] forums and they're like, 'Moeller's not going to
be back. He shouldn't play again.'"



The concerns from Ohio State fans were justified. Moeller suffered
a head injury in July 2009 after being attacked by a man at a Florida
bar. Moeller was blindsided and hit his head on the ground, suffering
bleeding on his brain that required emergency surgery on Aug. 8, 2009,
right around the time Ohio State opened preseason camp.

Moeller missed the entire 2009 season, and many wondered if he'd ever
suit up for the Buckeyes again. But he was back Thursday night,
starting on defense and recording a team-high six tackles, two for
loss, with a sack and a forced fumble in Ohio State's 45-7 win against
Marshall.



"I feel like I have something to prove out there," Moeller said, "and I think I proved it tonight."



Moeller played in 23 games in 2007 and 2008, but the jitters
returned Thursday night as he took the field before 105,040 at Ohio
Stadium. It took a series or two for Moeller to get fully comfortable.



Late in the first quarter, Moeller locked in on Marshall's Andre Booker and ran him out of bounds for a 4-yard loss.



"After that first hit, everything else felt natural," Moeller said.



His swagger also returned.



"He got a tackle and said, 'I may be white, but I'm fast!'" Buckeyes linebacker Brian Rolle recalled. "He said it out loud."



When asked if the comment was accurate, Moeller blushed a bit: "Something like that," he said.



Early in the third quarter, Moeller recorded his first career sack, dropping Marshall's Brian Anderson
and jarring the ball loose. Moeller's doctors cleared him for full
contact before Ohio State opened camp, but he hadn't truly played at
full speed until Thursday.



"It's a completely different feeling," he said. "To make plays and
contribute, I'm truly blessed. I hadn't been out there in a while.



"It has a whole new meaning now."</div>

Moeller Named Big Ten Player of the Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State senior safety Tyler Moeller was named the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the impact he made in the No. 2 Buckeyes' season-opening, 45-7, win over Marshall last Thursday.

Moeller, a 6-0, 210-pounder from Cincinnati and Colerain High School, returned to action after a year on the sidelines to help the Buckeye defense limit the Thundering Herd to no points - the Herd scored on a blocked field goal return - and just 199 offensive yards.

Moeller led the Buckeyes with six tackles in the contest and also recorded a quarterback sack, pass break-up, two TFLs and a forced fumble.

"It was everything I hoped it would be," Moeller said after the game. "Felt great to be able to get out and play a real game again."

The Ohio State coaches gave Moeller their "big hit" of the week honor in their weekly awards. Hitting, and big hits, are something Moeller is known for.

"That's one thing I'll never lose confidence in," Moeller said about his hits. "It's the best feeling."

Moeller, who also led the Buckeyes with six tackles in the 2008 season opener against Youngstown State, missed the entire 2009 campaign while recovering from an assault during the summer.

Let's hope the NCAA does the right thing here. The young man lost a year of his life due to a sucker punch from a poor soul in Florida (DWF Gator fan).

Ohio State defensive back Tyler Moeller was off to a great start this season before suffering a season-ending injury at Illinois. Moeller is appealing to the NCAA for one more year of eligibility and it appears he has a good chance to be back with OSU next fall.

Columbus -- Tyler Moeller's football future is out of his hands, and the Ohio State defense should want Moeller back next season just as badly as he wants to play.

After redshirting his first year in Columbus, missing all of last season with a head injury suffered when he was assaulted in a restaurant and then seeing this season ended in the fifth game by a torn pectoral muscle, Moeller will ask the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility.

"Hopefully they'll see it in their heart to give me another [redshirt year] but some people think differently, and if they don't, I'll understand," Moeller said days after his season-ending injury against Illinois. "But hopefully they'll give me that."

The No. 11 Buckeyes (8-1, 4-1 Big Ten) were off this weekend and will finish November with Penn State, Iowa and Michigan, but taking a peek at next year, defensive coordinator Jim Heacock should have his fingers crossed that Moeller, who excelled in the star position in Ohio State's nickel defense, gets another chance. Ohio State will lose seven senior defensive starters -- linemen Cameron Heyward and Dexter Larimore, linebackers Ross Homan and Brian Rolle, safety Jermale Hines and cornerbacks Devon Torrence and Chimdi Chekwa -- so anyone with experience and tackling ability will be even more valuable.

Moeller had a great start to this season before tearing his pectoral muscle on the first drive against Illinois. After surgically repairing what had been a nagging injury that limited his upper body strength, Moeller believes he can do even more if given a chance in 2011.

"Not to be cocky, but I'm not surprised," Moeller said about playing well this season. "I know I can play at that level. If I get a medical [redshirt] next year, I'll be better than ever. I'll have a chest to work with and my legs will be stronger."

So what are his chances? The NCAA doesn't comment on specific situations, but Moeller's admitted optimism seems well-placed. Answering questions through email, NCAA spokeswoman Stacey Osburn said cases on eligibility extensions are heard by the office's student-athlete reinstatement staff based on rules established by the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. So it's not just a rubber stamp. The staff handles about 2,000 eligibility cases a year in all sports, though many of them are related to other issues, not just to gaining a sixth year.

Judging by past cases, what the NCAA staff doesn't appear to have as much sympathy for is redshirting early in your career and then suffering an injury that costs you just one more season. If Moeller had played all of this year, and then applied for an extra year because he sat out in 2006 and then was hurt for 2009, his case wouldn't have been as strong.

But missing two years with injuries is almost a slam dunk case for a sixth year. Moeller's complicating factor is that for football players, the current limit for a medical redshirt is playing more than four games. Moeller was injured in the opening minutes of the fifth game. Considering all the extenuating circumstances, it's hard to imagine him being rejected when the overall intention of the rule is to allow a player to get on the field for four seasons. He's been out there for fewer than 21/2 seasons.

"Hopefully they'll look at the big picture and everything that happened to me," Moeller said, "and the guy punching me because I was a football player and missing the whole year and then coming back this year and not really being recovered from that and then this happening."

An OSU spokesperson said the Buckeyes have started on Moeller's paperwork. But no player knows for sure until the final word from the NCAA.

"I didn't expect to get it, but I was kind of hoping it would play in my favor," said Purdue linebacker Jason Werner, who was granted a sixth year for this season after missing 2006 and 2008 with a back injury. "But I didn't assume it and put all my eggs in one basket."

Werner applied last December and was given the word in February. He said the paperwork included a statement of purpose he had to write about why he deserved another year. Moeller shouldn't have a problem with that.

"I have to win the lottery or something one day," Moeller said. "All these bad things are happening to me, something good has to come by. So hopefully I'll win a couple million one day."

He'd settle for getting one more season of playing for the Buckeyes.

Five student-athletes on The Ohio State University football team have been suspended for NCAA violations, the school said Thursday in a press release.

Mike Adams, Dan Herron, DeVier Posey, Terrelle Pryor (pictured above) and Solomon Thomas will miss the first five games of the 2011 season and must repay money and benefits, the school said.

A sixth player, Jordan Whiting, must sit out the first game, the NCAA determined.

As part of the players' reinstatement:

â€" Pryor must repay $2,500 for selling his 2008 gold pants, which were a gift from OSU, his 2008 conference championship ring and his 2009 Sportsmanship award from the Fiesta Bowl.

â€" Adams must repay $1,000 for selling his 2008 Big Ten title ring.

â€" Herron must repay $1,150 for selling his football jersey, pants and shoes and accepting discounted services.

â€" Posey must repay $1,250 for selling his 2008 conference championship ring and accepting discounted services.

â€" Solomon must repay $1,505 for selling his 2008 gold pants, his conference title ring and accepting discounted services.

â€" Whiting must pay $150 to a charity "for the value of services that were discounted," the press release said.

"These are significant penalties based on findings and information provided by the university,"Â￾ said Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president of academic and membership affairs.

Gene Smith, associate vice president and director of athletics at Ohio State, said at a press conference that the university will do more to educate its student-athletes about the rules.

"After going through this experience," Smith said, "we will further enhance our education for all our student-athletes as we move forward."Â￾
