Well, the 2010 NFL preseason is here starting tonight with the HOF Game tonight. I'll be tuning in to see how early the Bengals use guys like Leonard, Shipley, and Jones. I'd like to see Sean Lee from the Cowboys play as well. Of course the normal guys like Romo, Brooking, Witten, and Palmer too.

This Terrell Owens/Chad Johnson storyline is already very old...all the moronic dwfs will eat it up for the next 6 months.

The Good news is it looks like Doug Free is a lock to start at LT for the Cowboys. The announcers said the Cowboys like Free's Athleticsm. The announcers just showed a pic of Andre Gurode, who managed to get called for holding. He looks like your typical sumo.

The Cowboys sumo Barron isn't doing too well. TE John Phillips is having a really nice game so far. I couldn't believe Collinsworthless actually said Doug Free is more athletic than Flozell Adams.

Damn it! Brian Leonard just got injured, looks like a foot injury. I hope it is not serious.

Yea i saw that to. It looks like it was his foot...not ankle or achilles, hopefully its just a quirky injury...nothing serious.

Matt Jones spotting, had a very impressive play, the first time the Bengals have gotten to the other side of the field. They didn't say how long of a play it was, but he got a good amount yac, had to be at least 20+ yards I am guessing? I wasn't paying full attention to the game.

Collinsworth just had to say "Great catch but he hasn't been having a good camp so far". I guess Jones can't do something positive without them inserting a negative in there. He looked better on that catch than any other receiver on the team so far tonight. He is definitely not looking slow. The guy is a long strider, his legs don't look like they are moving that fast, but just then you could see the dbs trying to tackle him, their legs were moving really fast. He covers a lot of ground quickly.

He just caught another pass for a first down.

rotoworld:

The initial diagnosis for Bengals RB Brian Leonard is that he suffered a mid-foot sprain in Sunday's preseason opener.

It's better than a fracture, but can still be a tricky injury to recover from. Leonard will return to Cincinnati tonight and undergo further tests. He's got plenty of time before Week 1, but Leonard's absence -- even if it's only for a week or two -- could give Bernard Scott even more of a chance to shine.

PS another nice catch for Matt!

The Cowboys look like they will be a LOT whiter this year, my guess is they will have at least 20 whites on their roster, which is more than in past years, and above the norm in the league. The could REALLY use a few more on defense, especially a safety and another LB and DL. As much as I have hated them in the past, I might actually pull for them this year.

Jordan Shipley with an electric 64 yard punt return; nearly scored the TD!

Bernard Scott dances too much in short yardage...

What happened to safety Tom Nelson?? Unless he played special teams...never saw him on defense.Edited by: TwentyTwo

Glad to see Matt Jones making plays during game time. If anything it will help his chances getting picked up by another team.

According to Chris Collinsworth, Carson Palmer has really been singing the praises of Jordan Shipley. Collinsworth must have mentioned it 4 or 5 times last night. So, thanks Carson Palmer.

With Matt Jones on his way out the door, there is very little to appreciate about the Bengals. Watching Shipley return punts and Brian Leonard get a few touches is not enough. I will be rooting for an 0-16 campaign.

The Cowboys are looking better with Free in for Flozell, giving 3 white starters on the OL. Sean Lee is supposedly impressing at linebacker. John Phillips at tight end looked awesome, although he is third string behind Martellus Bennett. They might want to rethink that position. Andre Gurode is horribly overrated at center. This guy is a penalty machine, regularly missnaps the ball and is morbidly obese. I think of great centers like Jeff Saturday who are compact, quick and mentally sharp. But, each year the affletes vote Gurode (and Flozell Adams) into the pro-bowl when any fan watching the games knows if there is a penalty or a sack, 9 times out of 10 it was Gurode or Adams.Edited by: icsept

One thing I forgot about last night's game was the talk of how "great" the rookie Jermaine Gersham is going to be. While they were talking the truly great Chase Coffman made an outstanding 15-20 yard catch. There was no talk of Coffman's Mackey award as the best TE in college football or of his great college career in which he was a Mackey finalist in his sophomore and junior season. Gersham was being sold as a great pass recieving TE, but Coffman's numbers in each of his four college years trumped each of Gersham's four years.

Great point Kaptain Poop. I voiced some concerns about Coffman's situation a few days ago. In his case, the high draft pick "great afflete" is being brought in to replace Chase before he had a chance to shine. Other than being in reverse order, this is identical to what Jacob Hester, Brian Leonard, and Toby Gerhart have gone through upon entering the league.

I watched the HOF game highlights of the (E)xaggeration of the (S)port's (P)erformance of (N)on Whites. This was a typical example of why my aforementioned acronym fits the network perfectly. I was hoping to see the entire game. ESPN knows most fans don't watch the pre-season. Well I'm watching the 1st quarter highlights as they show Terrell Owens and Chad Ocho Stinko. Heck, they showed two catches by Owens and even a short grab called back on a penalty. Well low and behold, right after the 1st quarter that was it. There was nothing on leading receiver Matt Jones and his longest catch of the game. Will the fans who actually watched the game think that the highlights omitted too much? Naa, they're used to the Ocho Stinko network and BSPN, I mean ESPN.

We don't get pre-season games in the UK so I had to go to NFL.com to catch the highlights.
Not a sign of Matt Jones, Jordan Shipley or Brian Leonard.
It's not like they did nothing!
The highlights they did show on NFL were pretty uneventful.
All I can say is it must have been a pretty boring 60 yard punt return by Shipley to notmerit inclusion. How often do they not show a long punt retrun, and the longest reception in the game highlights?

Never! unless it's a white guy. This is part of the subtle programming that goes on all of the time. I don't even think the guys that do it realize it. How can you not show a long punt return? It's one of the most exciting parts of a game.

Espcially when you condsider that these preseason games are supposed to be a bit of a showcase for the rookies. Jordan Shipley is not exactly a low profile unknown rookie.

I am glad there is at least youtube. There are highlights of Bengals players from the game on there, Shipley, Jones, Owens, Coffman, Leonard. Notice how Owens runs the same route as Jones, except Jones is able to shorten his steps and turn it up field, but Owens steps don't shorten up and it takes him out of bounds before he can go up the field. They are both around the same distance from the sideline (Owens might have even had a few more feet) when the catch is made, except after Owen's catch he takes a long stride and winds up out of bounds, Jones shortens his steps and turns it up field. So much for Matt Jone's being "too long in the legs" and him not being able to "quicken his steps".

I was also pretty upset when I looked at NFL.com's highlights of the game, Jordan Shipley and Matt Jones were nowhere to be found. I thought to myself that I could understand the Matt Jones not being in there because it didn't lead to a score, but the Shipley return is the reason why they were in the redzone and were able to score. They just decided to leave those 7 points out of the highlights? especially when it was because of a 60+ yard play? But then you could say that "well the media favors the Cowboys" but there is nothing of Scott Sicko who led the Cowboys in receiving, or John Phillips. I guess its all good because we get to see Owens make 2 catches for 18 yards, showcasing is superior talent, even though he was targeted 4 times....

It seems like the coach had Jones running routes to make him look like a possession receiver, nothing to showcase his deep speed, just a quick out route, a hitch route and another out route. I bet they didn't expect him to be able to cut a quick out route up the field for 28 yards, taller guys have a harder time with getting yards after the catch on those types of routes. He looked better than Owens running similar routes though, except Jones is taller and can simply jut snatch a ball that is highly thrown where the db has no chance of getting his hands on it.
