Wow! what a great result!!! and where was the vaunted tiger "intimidation" factor? He started the day what---two shots off the pace? Wasn't he supposed to make a charge and make everyone elseback away?Bottom line--Phil playedvery well throughout the entire tournament.Woods had a decent tournament but his achilles heel is I think the first three rounds. He doesn't seem to grasp the fact that when he is shooting a 70, there are othersshooting in the 60's. As for Phil, There was no implosion, no choking, just an excellent 67. The good guy, the true family guy, the class act won handily.


and the media was at it's worst--every headline before each day of golf was *not about who was actually leading*--but about their hero. Nobody else was allowed to have their day in the sun until the very end.


also, congrats to lee westwood. He is a tough golfer, who like Phil, knows that he can beat Woods.

A very good analysis by Thrashen, and that great moment took several minutes, actually. It was surely an agonizing time for the cultural marxists and TPTB, and they were completely helpless about it.

And yes, the first 4 months of 2010 have been very good from the CF perspective, good call there j41181 with Federer, we cannot forget about arguably the greatest athlete in the world and what he's been doing.

As for the rest of 2010, don't forget the World Cup. There's a very good chance that an all-white team such as Germany, Italy, or Spain is going to win the biggest sporting event in the world, so the hits will keep on coming.

There are a few little blemishes in there (the Williams Brothers, NFL draft, NBA play-offs), but for the most part 2010 is shaping up to be a very good year.

I agree with the posters mentioning how with Duke and Mickelson winning, it's been a great week for white athletes!!

What I will disagree with though is on the opinions of CBS' tournament presentation. I don't know how ESPN did on Thursday / Friday but I do know that Jim Nantz and all the broadcasters at CBS did a fair job -- and a great job of giving Phil his due. They focused a broad array of compliments his way throughout both days & played up the post-win celebration quite nicely.

Did they focus on Tiger too? You bet. They HAD to. Face it folks, that is a huge story as well. First golf tourney back from self-imploding, yada, yada, yada. For those of you thinking the Tiger story should not be as big, why is it that CF's Golf thread on Tiger Woods is now 11 pages & counting? (probably one of the longest threads on this site). It's because people are talking about it! Nantz did fine on his NCAA call & did fine here, IMHO.

Great win by Mickelson. The announcers made every excuse for Tiger,particularly that he had to deal with the stress of the media and press conferences. Tiger never had a problem dealing with off the course stress: imagine juggling all those hoes and hiding it from your wife for years. He simply got outplayed.

Mickelson didn't make a single bogey in the final round. His two par saves out of the woods on 9 and 10 were as brilliant as his second shot on 13. He played a tremendous round of golf, as good as any I've ever seen. I've never seenJohnny Miller's 63 in the final round of the U.S. Open in '73 except for a few highlights, but for sheer brilliant shot-making and steady play it's hard to imagine it was better than the display Mickelson put on yesterday.

There may be a shift of sorts going on, though. Mike Francesa, Mike lupica, the daily news...all were very pro-Phil in their columns, etc; plus they commented against the excessive tiger emphasis in golf. also, there seemed to be a lot of headlines saying "the good guy won" and the "tomcat" faded away.

Interesting, given that Woods has won The Masters once since 2002 and Phil has won it three times since 2004.

He'll obviously never get close to Woods, but if Mickelson wins 3 more majors to get to 7, that would tie him for 6th all time. If he wins15 more tournaments he'd have 53, sixth all time. He'd thenhave to be considered one of the all time greats, roughly on a par with Tom Watson (39 career wins, 8 majors), Arnold Palmer (62/7), Walter Hagen (45/11), and Gary Player (24/9), and only clearly behind Jack Nicklaus (73/18), Woods (currently 71/14), Sam Snead (82/7) and Ben Hogan (64/9). Not bad for a man who has been belittled and mocked by the media for much of his career.

Francesa was saying that the US Open crowds in New York might even heckle Tiger, since they are not as reserved as the masters' galleries. My fear however is that many of these potential hecklers will be dwfs supporting Tiger and heckling people trying to heckle Tiger. We'll see...

tiger will almost always shoot very respectable rounds, I don't think we can reasonablyexpect him to shoot over a 75 (except on a real monster course/bad weather when everyone is posting 75). Don't count on a collapse from him.

The key to victory is to focus on the course---conquer the course. A 68 here or there, and pretty soon you are in the lead on Sunday and Tiger is 3-4 strokes back. We know that he has never won a major when he was behind after three complete rounds. Comebacks are not his strong suit. he flourishes in a controlled environment. Let's see what happens when that environment breaks down.

I just turned to The Tiger Network (Golf Channel) and the first thing I heard was a "journalist" saying, "Phil will be the first one to tell you that Tiger is still the best in the world."

This form of relentless reinforcement of black "sporting superiority" is so blatantly insulting and transparent that it makes me seethe beyond belief. Even in defeat, the black is elevated above the White winner and lauded as the paragon of the sport. Sickening stuff. Sadly, there is no shortage of white golfers who, whenever they win a tournament (regardless of whether the loathesome Eldrick Tont, oops, sorry, "Tiger", competed or not), will as if on cue gleefully spout forth the mantra of "I may have won today, but everyone knows that Tiger is still the best player in the world".

This automatic name-association of a black with the ultimate pinnacle of talent in a particular sport has been pushed for decades. The original black "superstar" served up for global propaganda consumption was Pele, the so-called "greatest footballer of all time". "Pele" is a household name, a byword for superlative footballing skill, even among people who have never watched a game of soccer in their lives. The name and, therefore, the manis synonymous with a strictly-defined concept of excellence.

The same goes for Muhammad Ali ("Cassius Clay be a slave name!!!!). Any garden-variety idiot who knows nothing about boxing (or, more likely, whothinks he knows something)anywhere in the world willmost likely blurt out "Muhammad Ali" as being "the greatest fighter of all time". We, of course, know that that's all bollocks, but the name and image are, yet again,synonymous with the concept. Both of these examples have been tirelessly propagated by the media since the late 1950s / early 1960s, so they have become part of thedemotic vocabulary of generations of Whites, with highly deleterious psychological consequences, both conscious and subconscious.Edited by: Rebajlo

Jim Nantz has been my favorite sportscaster for years, and he continues to show why. It is so refreshing to see this, in an otherwise sea of Tiger Woods jock-sniffers and worshippers in the media.

Jim Nantz Criticizes Tiger Woods

Before the Masters started, Tiger Woods told us that he had changed. His outbursts would be quieted, his club tossing would be softened and he was going to be a different guy on the golf course.

No matter if you bought that or not, it's true that the weekend brought out some of the old Tiger. He screamed "Tiger, you suck!," only to follow that up with a profanity unlike any other in the third round. On Sunday on the 13th hole, Woods screamed "Jesus Christ!" after a tee shot and he wasn't complimenting the man upstairs.

It wasn't something new with Tiger, but it is something he told us would be avoiding in the future. Jim Nantz, the voice of CBS at the Masters, had a chance to talk with Mike Francesa of WFAN on Monday, and let it be known that he wasn't happy with the way Woods acted.

"If I said what he said on the air, I would be fired. I read in the USA Today and it was called "mild language."Â￾ Someone on my broadcast dismissed it as him having a camera in his face. Well, guess what? Phil Mickelson had a camera in his face all week and did you even hear him come close to approaching that? He didn't hit every shot the way he wanted. Have you ever heard Arnold Palmer or Jack Nicklaus use that kind of language? What are the parameters between what's right or wrong?"

Nantz then admitted that this isn't something that has disturbed him in the past, but the fact that Tiger promised us a change is why it rubbed him the wrong way. He mentioned that he doesn't speak perfectly, but when the red light is on, he has things he cannot say.

He also said that there are people watching the telecast that shouldn't be subjected to such profanities.

"How about the father and son who are standing right there by the tee? How about the hundreds of people who are around that tee who hear that? How about the hundreds of letters I've gotten through the years from people who have been outraged at the language they've heard there and have written me and said, ‘Why don't you guys ever say something about that?' "

Nantz obviously has some great points here. If you're going to cuss when the cameras are rolling over a live broadcast, that is one thing, but when you tell us you won't and still do it, it sure makes you look bad. Especially for a guy trying to bulldoze his past image.
