PhillyBirds, it seems reasonable to me that if two teams can put out an offense like this than nearly every team could. Same goes with college ball!

I think they should keep Reggie Wayne as #1, Austin Collie as #1A, Blair White replaces Collie as the slot receiver as Collie moves outside, and Dallas Clark continues to be for all intents and purposes wide receiver #2.

We all know there are good black receivers, just not as many as most NFL teams make them out to be. Just looking at how the few but seemingly more significant white receivers in the NFL perform, it seems like they should be about 75% of the receivers. Of course that would require more of the guys that end up at FCS or D2 and 3 schools to be playing at FBS-BCS automatic qualifying conference schools. A lot the guys who end up at lower end schools would actually improve and be much better playing in tougher competition. So I think it will actually be possible for white players to man 75% of the receiving spots like the current situation on the Colts or Texans.
The only thing I feel bad about is Gonzalez maybe being phased out. Although there are plenty of teams were he would be the #1 receiver, including Cleveland!
i think Gonzo needs to find another team, as both Collie and White seem to fit Colts offense more than him. A fresh start for him, maybe for Falcons, Rams or Browns would be great. He can't possibly get enough catches to showcase his talent with Wayne, Clark and aforementioned white receivers.

I thought they might try to move Garcon to the slot over White. Garcon has quickness, moves and runs well after the catch. The only problem is that Garcon doesn't have good hands and lacks ideal toughness for the slot. Blair White- despite being 6'2- has great agility measurables and above average quickness, and good hands and toughness- and is pretty good after the catch. My take is also that Blair White or Gonzalez would be better in the slot than Garcon. If Collie isn't the other starting outside WR it would be AA at work. Collie is still 3rd in the entire league in receiving.

This'll be an interesting situation to follow in the coming weeks here. I agree with Don's post on how the recievers should be slotted, but this is the NFL we're talking about.
If Garcon continues to drop balls, make mental mistakes and have a much lower conversion rate of targets to receptions than the other receivers, it'll make it easier for the Colts to demote him to the fourth or fifth receiver he should be, especially now that they're just 2-2 and in a tough division where the second place team probably won't make it as a wildcard playoff team.

The first idea for breakfast is typically
whatever pops into my head to start the busiest day of the week. Today,
it's about how much the Colts' roster shuffled Tuesday. It's also about
how WR Pierre Garcon is expected to return Sunday for the home game
against Kansas City. Spoke to a well-informed source on this, then found
out on Twitter that Garcon had said he was ready to return from a
hamstring injury when he was doing a local TV gig on Monday night.
Like many people, I'm curious about how Garcon fits into the mix.
Whatever concern anyone had about him or Anthony Gonzalez has kind of
fizzled into thin air. Undrafted rookie Blair White has been excellent,
and I think he's Peyton Manning's kind of guy. He studies hard, am told
he carries a notepad with him everywhere, and he's humble. Which means
he's unselfish. You have to be on this offense. It's not about your
stats. It's about scoring. And the Colts are averaging 29.3 points per
game.
Garcon's return after missing two games with a hamstring injury means
a different look for the offense. No denying Garcon's big-play ability
down the field. At what cost, though? As the entire planet knows, he has
to minimize his drops and make more of those big plays, or you're going
to see Manning effectively freeze him out. Garcon caught the opening
pass against the N.Y. Giants, then didn't have another. Maybe that was
because the hamstring bothered him. Maybe it just didn't work out that
way in a game the Colts put away early. Or maybe, just maybe, Manning
decided to go to other targets and didn't concern himself with how many
times he targeted Garcon.
I could be wrong on this, and I'll let it go for now, but Garcon
could be one or two drops away from making everybody question his value
to the team. And if so, then he's ideal trade material. He might be one
of the better players in terms of a trade because we've seen him at his
best, and that's attractive to teams. Nobody looks to give up something
for a guy who doesn't have a tremendous upside. But we've also seen him
at his worst, which explains why a trade, at least in theory, would be
understandable.
As for the other guy in the mix who some have suggested for a trade,
Gonzalez is ruled out this week. The longer this goes, the more I'm
convinced he wasn't going to come back until the bye week. The Colts
also ruled out LB Kavell Conner and S Bob Sanders, but we knew that
already...

The myth of Pierre Garcon continues to boggle my mind.
I don't remember seeing anything spectacular from him last year. He made a few big plays, but ANYONE is bound to make a few plays if you're being targeted 15 times a game like Garcon was last year with most of his routes going deep.
He easily had more drops than big plays even last season when he "showed upside".
EDIT: I'll give Garcon credit for trying really hard last year after Marvin Harrison's departure, but he never looked to me like he belonged in an NFL starting lineup. His production was only marginally greater than Austin Collie's, although he inexplicably received way more passes than him. The media jumped on the Pierre Garcon bandwagon very quickly, and like with most black athletes it takes them a long time to actually open their eyes and realize that he isn't what they want him to be. All last season the DWFs and media assumed Garcon's natural place was in the starting lineup opposite Wayne, and Collie would always necessarily have to be the 3rd receiver and always in the slot in a Welker type role. We'd take his report with some caution. Clayton is shaky in his weekly "medical report" on SportsCenter and if Collie practices Friday Clayton's tune would probably change. Check back for an update this afternoon. If Collie does not play, Pierre Garcon would become a worthwhile WR3.

Mitch King was cut and signed to the practice squad. The Colts defense will only have its affetes to blame now when they get torched in the running game.

Unfortunately, Austin Collie will be a game time decision against the Chiefs this Sunday with a foot injury.
ESPN's little pencil-neck, John Clayton, predicted that Collie will not play. I read another report suggesting that he will try to play through the injury.

I hope Austin plays and not just because he's on my fantasy team. I'd like to see Austin tear it up all year long and I don't want to see Pierre (I wasn't even the best player on my Mount Union offense) Garcon get another chance to take playing time away from him, Gonzalez or White for that matter.

Here's an article that I just saw about punter Pat McAfee being arrested for public drunkenness, and doing a few dumb things. It might have been ill-advised for him to do something like this, but it pales in comparison to the daily news barrage of hero affletes and their criminal activities. It's overblown to have a "story" about something like this when every day affletes are arrested for throwing their girlfriends down flights of stairs or fighting in the strip club after a night of "making it rain".

forthose who didn't get the chance to watch Jacob Tamme play college ball, i'll summarize his attributes. he's a wide receiver playing tight end, which is likely the reason he's gotten so little run with the Colts thus far in his career. he's never been much of a blocker, but having an athlete like him block has always seemed like a waste to me anyway.
while playing for Kentucky, he won just about every award a tight end can whilst setting numerous records along the way. to note just a couple, he was a two-time first-team All-SEC tight end and was the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year as a senior.
from a purely physical standpoint, he is 6-3, 236 (at that size, you can see why i don't consider him to be a true tight end) and if i recall correctly he ran a 4.58 at the Combine.

From Weenieworld: Peyton Manning has targeted Dallas Clark or Austin Collie on 51.6 percent of his 254 pass attempts this season. The two injured players have accounted for 57.9 percent of his completions. We wouldn't put anything past Manning, but it's reasonable to expect a few glitches over the next couple of games as he incorporates Jacob Tamme, Blair White, and Anthony Gonzalez into the passing offense. Tamme is the best fantasy bet of the group in Week 8.

If Tamme and White play and do well, it'll be attributed to Peyton Manning being so good, but three more White guys being plugged into the receiving game (Gonzalez is practically starting over) and excelling can't help but open some more eyes to the reality that Whites makevery goodreceivers and there's no shortage of them out there for those that care to look.
