Matt Jones was the "early surprise" of Tuesday's first practice session of the season, according to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson.

Jones beat cornerback Leon Hall twice, a feat many starting receivers had trouble accomplishing last season. Carson Palmer noted that Jones is "always a mismatch" due to his size and speed while another offensive player stated simply, "Matt Jones is a beast." Jones has always had the talent. If the light is flipped on, he can't be ruled out of the third receiver competition.

3rd receiver? In my opinion Jones should be starting along with idiot Ochocinco. I'm guessing Antonio Bryant will be the other starter though. Where does that leave Jordan Shipley? As a number 4 guy at best?

glad to see Matt Jones doing well...he has a shot to be very good with Palmer throwing him the ball. If my memory serves me correctly Bryant is very injury prone so Jones might be able to be bumped up to a starting WR at some point in the season.

"Always a mismatch" and a "beast," when you're White that means potential third receiver if everything breaks just right. I just have the feeling that either Jones or Shipley, or both, will get screwed over. Their best hope is for Antonio Bryant to get injured because that's the only way both may get significant playing time. And until this positive blurb posted above by Backrow, many "experts" foresaw Jones not even making the roster. And Shipley may have to do a racial apprenticeship behind Caldwell, who despite being an obvious journeyman type is beloved by Cincy's DWFs.

Bryant had two 1,000 yard receiving seasons so far in his 8 year career. For a black player that is enough to elevate them to a starting position on almost any team they play for. He sure does miss a lot of games due to injuries and last year he only caught 39 balls for 600 yards so he's not all that they make him out to be.

so, Matt Jones routinely destroys a cornerback that blankets the team's so-called "best" wideouts ... yet this easily demonstrable fact results in Jones still being an after thoughtwho "can't be ruled out of the third receiver competition."

It is funny how easily led around fans are. Just before this report came out the majority of fans (or close to it) were arguing that Jones wouldn't even make the team. For some reason they had their little hearts aflutter for Dezmon Briscoe and Andre Caldwell with a small minority still pleading for Jerome Simpson. Now with this report fortunately Jones is back in the fickle good graces of the fans.

Antonio Bryant was a decent NCAA WR at Pitt"¦he did nothing special in Dallas and San Francisco, he had one good season with the Browns, and one good season with the Bucs. In a fair league, he would probably make a roster and get some playing time.

If Bryant or Chad PrimaDonna or Caldwell go down with injury (I don't think Bryant has ever played a full 16 games)"¦.Matt Jones and Jordan Shipley can shine. It's too early to tell, but I have a good feeling about Jones this season.

To their credit most fans have Shipley ahead of Caldwell already. I was kind of surprised how excited they were about Shipley even if it was just for the slot role.

In a fair league, Bryant would be out of it completely, as he was in 2007 when not a single team wanted him because he's such a bonehead. He won the Biletnikoff Award at Pitt, but he also routinely yelled at both coaches and teammates alike during games (and presumably during practices as well). He was pretty much out of control on a regular basis.

Instead of demanding that he go through anger management classes, or better yet grow up, this T.O. Jr. continued his antics in the NFL, most infamously throwing a towel in the face of Bill Parcells while with the Cowboys. Milton Bradley in baseball is an apt comparison to Bryant. You know when a black receiver with some talent is not wanted by a single team in the NFL during what should be one of the prime years of his career that he must be pure poison as a teammate.

Bryant'll probably yell and scream if he isn't the number two receiver, which won't work in favor of Matt Jones or Jordan Shipley. The best scenario is that he gets hurt (again), or acts up enough that the Bengals trade or cut him, not an impossibility with another notorious infantile receiver, "Ocho Cinco," already firmly established in his prima donna role.

Matt Jones should start on the outside alongside Ocho Stinko (jk) with Shipley (although a rookie) probably winning the slot spot from Bryant in an open competition if fair.

I guess I meant that "talent-wise,"Â Bryant would still get some playing time in a fair NFL. I also remember the "towel incident"Â in Dallas, and other anecdotal evidence of his juvenile tirades. But you're right, if one was to factor in his Negro sense of personal entitlement, yes; any rational GM, owner, coach, or teammate would certainly want him gone...he bounced around to so many teams for good reason.

I've been following Chase Coffman pretty closely, and every time I find something about him (and it's usually negative) there is the obligatory homage paid to the immortal Reggie Kelly. Kelly is a tight end who can't catch, but he apparently is a good teammate, which is enough for the media and DWFs to venerate him. Meanwhile just about every White player in the league is an exceptional teammate.

Now Saint-in-Training Kelly is being hyped by a Bleacher Report DWF as coaching material. This sentence from the article below really stands out: "Let's face itâ€"Reggie Kelly is a damn good athlete or he would notbe in the NFL, butKelly does not possess the same God given ability as Jermaine Gresham."

Interesting, given that we read time and again that just about every White player in the league isn't athletic.

I know I haven't posted on OneManCrimeWave for quite some time, and I would like to start back by posting about a guy that I believe doesn't get enough credit: Reggie Kelly. Although he's been getting some positive press here recently, I still don't believe he gets all the credit he deserves for everything he does both on and off the field.

So frequently in the NFL we become infatuated with superstar players with huge egos, but in my opinion the real superstars are the players like Reggie Kelly whowas not necessarily blessed with all the physical tools to be considered an "elite" player but still does whatever it takes to make his team better.

Let's face itâ€"Reggie Kelly is a damn good athlete or he would notbe in the NFL, butKelly does not possess the same God given ability as Jermaine Gresham. Someathletes let their competitive nature prohibit them from mentoring younger players who are trying to steal their jobs and ability to provide for their familiesâ€"but not Reggie Kelly.

The stories I've been reading about Kelly's willingness to mentor youngerplayersâ€"like Gresham and Chase Coffmanâ€"have been very inspiring. Kelly is a true class act who is humbly doing whatever it takes to make the Cincinnati Bengals a better football team, even if that means sacrificing his own personal ambitions in the process.

With all that I've read, I would just like to say that I sincerely hope Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis remember all the sacrifices that Kelly has made for this organization whenReggie can no longer buckle his chinstrap and play the game of football at the professional level.

It's one thing for a guy to consider himself a TRUE team player when he doesn't have the physically ability to play the game any longer, but it's another when a guy has been doing it his entire career.

Although I don't believe Reggie Kelly has much gas left in the tank, it is my sincere hope that the Bengals will find a place for him within the organization where he can continue doing the thing he's best atâ€"TEACHING. The NFL needs people like Reggie Kelly just as much as they do those like Chad Ochocincoâ€"and make no mistake about it, in his own way Reggie Kelly IS a superstar.

I am hopefulfor BOTHMatt Jones &amp; Shipley...QB-Palmer will make sure he utilizes these tremendous weapons!! Jonesshould still have hiselite athleticism and plenty of burst...and copy-cat trendy NFL has to be licken their chops with Shipley in that slot! WHY did the Browns not draft him again??

Also very confident in LT Andrew Whitworth (6'7" 335)is up &amp; coming and if were black may be considered for the Pro Bowl in 10'...did yall happen to see his scrap with behemoth John Henderson of the Jags??? Whitworth was getting his eyes gouged-out after his helmet popped off..he then broke free &amp; delivered two-blows to the facemask of Henderson...BOTH were EJECTED! they need to let these two battle this out in a ring!

Wow. Unbelievable. By that logic any white guy in the NFL would be a "damn good athlete" too. But for some reason this logic doesnt apply for whites, and they are all "overachieving high motor guys that lack elite athleticism".

NFL is a joke. The pro black fanaticism in the USA is a joke.

From time spent on the Bengals message boards I can tell you Kelly is revered as the "best blocking TE in the NFL" despite the fact that Benson's good season occurred with Foschi and (T) Roland playing TE for the Bengals. The same sort veneration is granted to the lazy (FB) Jeremi Johnson. However, there are a few people hoping for two TE sets featuring Gresham and Coffman.

There are also a few annoying posters (or maybe one multi-accounting half-wit, the argument and tone is identical) there who have taken on the job of lashing out at all the Matt Jones supporters (a number that spiked after the OTA). Shipley is viewed optimistically, but mostly because he is projected for the slot where a white receiver is sometimes allowable.

Most fans have guys like Skuta and Nelson headed to the practice squad or cut. Also despite some other posters continually providing evidence that Andrew Whitworth is one of the better LTs in the NFL there are a number of people insisting that he should be moved to guard and the obese Andre Smith get the LT spot (they never seem to get to who plays RT then, but I guess when the only point is hating the white LT that RT doesn't matter).

For years, first round draft choice Cedric Benson was a lazy bust on the field with the Bears and was regularly getting busted off it.But hekept getting opportunity after opportunity, par for the course for black players. After finally putting it together with the Bengals over the past season and a half, Benson's true nature has again come to the fore off the field. This may slightly benefit Brian Leonard (but likely won't). Let's see how the Bengals' DWFs and the organization react to this:
Cedric Benson has been arrested and charged with assault for an altercation at a bar on May 30, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Surprise. It's just like the self-destructive CedBen to get arrested days after word breaks of the Bengals looking to extend his contract. He could be in even more trouble if he didn't report the month-old incident to the team. Police say Benson got into a fight around 1:50 a.m. with an unknown person inside an Austin bar. While being escorted out, Benson allegedly punched a bar employee in the face and split blood from his cut lip at a worker. Benson, a prior offender of the Personal Conduct Policy, will be hearing from the league office. If convicted, he faces up to a year in jail for the Class A misdemeanor. Edited by: Don Wassall

Attorney David Cromwell, who previously represented Ben Roethlisberger, released a statement Tuesday painting Cedric Benson as the victim in his assault case at a bar in late May. According to Cromwell, Benson was punched after agreeing to pose for pictures with a group of women. On his way out of the club, Benson was approached by another man and "attempted to protect himself." Benson reportedly called the police immediately, but there are indications that he kept the incident from the Bengals and the league office until a warrant was issued on Tuesday. As a prior offender of the Personal Conduct Policy, Benson had an obligation to keep the league office informed.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Cedric Benson claims he did reach out to the NFL office and Bengals to inform them of events in an Austin (TX) bar that led up to Tuesday's assault charge. A league source familiar with the situation told Schefter that Benson's case is "very minor." Benson reportedly had no idea he'd be charged with the Class A misdemeanor, so he might not have taken the situation seriously. Via attorney David Cornwell, Benson has publicly contended that he was the victim, not the person(s) he allegedly assaulted. Schefter noted that Benson has a history of off-field problems, but didn't predict what will come of this.

Don, the amount of players arrested in the NFL is astonishing at the very least. The DWF's know what to say however. I've talked to quite a few DWF"s that claim the reason these players are getting arrested is because they were once poor and when they made all this money they didn't know what to do with themselves. There is always an excuse for blacks.
