Re: the Mike (surprised he doesn't use "Michael"--blacks almost always use formal and/or diminuitive versions of names) Tomlin T--And to think that 25 years ago, this was not mainstream amd was generally treated with derision.

Tomlin was on "Pardon The Interruption By Douche Bags" on ESPN and wouldn't you know it; the caption on the bottom of the screen mentioned the lack of non-White coaches and whether the need for the "Rooney Rule" for college football was necessary.

The team thinks it was good to give Max Starks $7 million for the just-completed season. Amazing....

"They also will consider using the franchise or transition tags on a player to maintain their rights to one of their free agents. They did that last year with Max Starks and, while it cost them a $6.9 million salary, it paid off when he started 14 games at left tackle for the injured Marvel Smith, including all three in the postseason.

I wouldn't mind if the team got rid of all the above linemen.

The article also says the team wants to "get younger on the defensive line," which means they want to get rid of valuable back-up white players.

If they replace guys like Chris Hoke and Travis Kirschke before next season, I can easily see them disposing of Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel after another one.

It's conceivable the team could have only Big Ben, a couple TEs, a White Special Teams demon, and the PK/P/LS as white players from 2010.

My guess is that Trai Essex-a huge disappointment-and underperforming Chris Kemoeatu will be gone. The team will try to use oft-injured, fatass Kendall Simmons at guard again with Darnell Stapleton.

I doubt that anyone would try to sign restricted FA Willie Colon because of his mediocre play and what the other team would have to give up.

So that leaves us with Max Starks and Marvel Smith. I think Starks will be resigned, and Smith will be as well, if he is healthy.

The team should probably use as many as 4 picks in the next draft on guards and tackles, but we already know that Colbert

and Tomlin will cross nearly all the white men off their wish list.

I would be shocked if, in addition to Justin Hartwig, there is another white starter on the line next season.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed is in trouble with the police over some towels, but not the Terrible kind waved by his fans. <INLINE1>Pennsylvania state police say Reed threw a temper tantrum at a Sheetz convenience store in New Alexandria, a tiny borough about 35 miles east of Pittsburgh, because its restroom didn't have any towels.


Reed has been cited for disorderly conduct and criminal mischief, offenses similar to traffic tickets that carry a maximum fine of $300 and 90 days in jail each. Police said he broke the towel dispenser then used profane language to an employee and also outside the store.


"Reed caused damage to a towel dispenser as he was infuriated at the fact that there were no towels in it," according to a news release by Trooper Shawn Askins, who issued the citations. The incident occurred Saturday about 2:50 a.m.


A message left on an answering machine at Reed's home was not immediately returned.


Steelers spokesman Dave Lockett said the team wouldn't have any immediate comment.


"We're still gathering information right now," Lockett said Saturday.


Reed made 27 of 31 field goals and 36 of 37 PATs for 117 points in his seventh season with the Steelers, which was capped by Pittsburgh's 27-23 win over the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl.


Reed has made nearly 83 percent of his field goals (162 of 196) and scored 733 points for the Steelers in his career.

While I think that Marijuana POSSESSION should be decriminalized nationwide, you can clearly see favoritism in the court of law at work here; because it is clearly prosecuted big time in America currently. But in this situation they are more concerned with Holmes game winning catch.

But on the last comment Thrashen. Burress and Holmes aren't at the despicable level of that thug Pac-Man. Pac-Man sent his Entourage after two men to shoot them up b/c one had dared try to get a number of a girl he was with.

On Outside the Lines; one of them men stated he asked the girl "are you dating him" when Pac-Man threatened him, and she replied; "no just a friend", or something like that. Of course this hasn't been PROVEN yet. Anyway Pac-Man thinks he can just start popping them things; even people.

This is why, when I was younger I have never felt comfortable trying to get a girl's number in a bar in most places, especially here in Jersey. There are just too many NUTS out there; who can snap at you if you don't assess the situation properly; or in Pac-Man's case even if it isn't his girlfriend. It is better meeting girls thorough friends or in some better social setting IMO.

Also, the team lost Byron Leftwich to Tampa Bay. If they go into next season with only Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon backing up Big Ben, they're going to be in big trouble.

Charlie Batch has been a Pittsburgh media darling and a favorite of the DWFs in Steeler Nation for 7 years. The guy didn't even play a down in '02, '04, and '08, with only some scattered appearances in the other seasons, but somehow we're told to believe he's an indispensable part of the team.

And Dennis Dixon has proven nothing so far other than to be a wasted draft choice.

Maybe there is hope for the O-Line. The Steelers have signed 3rd round draft pick Kraig Urbik to a three-year deal. Hopefully, he'll be able to beat out the horrible, clueless Darnell Stapleton for the starting job this year, but golden boy Mike Tomlin probably won't even consider demoting Stapleton, no matter how bad he plays.

3. The Steelers really like their first-round choice: Evander "Ziggy" Hood has already established himself in the rotation of defensive ends. If needed, he could grow into a nose tackle. Tomlin is using him as a backup at right and left defensive end. He's 6-3, 300 pounds and the only thing he lacks is experience.
