I remember the Brad Mueller story specifically too Don. That was a very good write up by you. Brad Mueller's 4.24 40 time he ran at his Pro Day would be tied for the fastest "all time time" at the NFL combine with RB Chris Johnson and WR Rondel Mendez in the last 9 years (NFL Combine times usually time .05-.10 seconds slower though, but Mueller would still surely be one of the fastest 25-50 players in the NFL in the last 10 years).

Brad Mueller isn't only an athletic freak, but he is also an accomplished H.S RB. The two together should have been enough to give him a chance to run the ball for a big program like Boston College. This guy was screwed by the system. Mueller still has a Scout.com profile, but is ranked as the 61st best CB.

Mueller ran a 4.31 electronic timed 40 at the Nike Combine in H.S=faster than Reggie Bush!:

I'm glad that Brad has taken up track again. He did not race in the last 5 years until this indoor season Five new personal and school record races later, he is the Div. II National Champion in the 60 meters. He will know compete outdoors over 100 & 200 meters. Who knows how fast he could have been if he would have went to school on a track scholarship. I dare to say that he would run in the 4.1 range! Good luck to Brad on and off the track! What a shame he didn't get to play rb.

WL, definitely a good possibility that Brad would have the fastest 60 meter time American college this year rather than the 7th fastest had he been running longer. As far as running a 4.1, maybe a hand-timed 4.14 or so, but no-one could run an electronic 4.1 flat at the NFL combine IMO. The fastest electronic time at the combine is Chris Johnson's and Rondel Mendez's 4.24. Don Bebee and Deion ran 4.2 flat hand-times and Bo Jackson ran a 4.18 handtimed time.

I think the fastest 40 yards ever recorded was by Ben "The Juice" Johnson. Using video technology they were able to decipher that he ran a 4.14 over the first 40 yards electronic timed in his now disqualified 9.79 100 meter time if I recall. It was an electronic time because they were using the electronic clock from the event and then pinpointing where he was after 40 yards. I hope Mueller gets invited to an NFL camp. I'd love to see him get a shot at RB or CB, he is so talented from what I've heard. Unfortunately he was screwed out of playing time at Boston College and I was never actually allowed to see this talent play for myself.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Caste system working against Silva?

Acording to this site, Jamie didn't ran a short shuttle over 4 seconds in 3 years, but he was timed "officially" at 4.5 at his pro day, this video proves otherwise.

what about Shawn McMackin! 4.77-4.79 40 at 300 lbs and 42 reps on a bench! he's a freak!
smiley32.gif

from JetsCentral.com, linked to by draftdaddy:

"Finally, not that this pertains to the Jets or anything in particular about the team, but local boy and Hofstra offensive lineman Shawn McMackin had a very nice Pro Day and was easily the top performer of the day. He projects to be one of the biggest sleepers in the 2008 draft. At 295 pounds, McMackin ran an average 40-time of 4.79, which is surreal for an offensive lineman. He also completed 42 reps on the bench press. Haven't exactly figured out where his draft value is at the moment. Depth is always good to have, though. Just saying..."

Malcom Kelly's fraud came up to light today, he ran his 40 in the 4.7s

He blamed it on the University switching the surface from Astroturf to field turf... Maybe someone should tell him that they play on field turf in the NFL. He basically ran a 4.7 and had nowhere near the production of Jordy Nelson playing in the same conference. If he gets drafted before Nelson, it will be an undeniable example of the Caste system at work. Even the most braindead dwf will have to admit that something is fishy.

well, now that jordy nelson BLOWS HIM AWAY in every facet of athletic ability, had TWICE the season that m. Kelly has had, i cant see any reason why in the world that he could possibly get drafted ahead of him now. I will say this, if he does, this is the BEST example, in the history of the NFL draft, of the caste system. If jordy is stronger, faster, quicker and better stats, omg even the NFL cant be that bad, but we will see.

After all is said and done, these are my top 5 wide outs

1. Jordy Nelson
2. Mario Manningham
3. Devin Thomas
4. Limas Sweed
5. Desean Jackson.

In a fair & just draft, this would be the wide out order.

Not only is Kelly slow, inconsistent, has below average production for a "top" WR, he is also an injury risk, having missed numerous games in his career.

there is just no way he gets taken before Nelson, this would be PURE insanity!!

But crazier things happened....

Why manningham so high? he is a drop waiting to happen, has character concerns and only one year of good production.

I prefer a guy like Vandy's earl bennett who played great against very good competition on a below average team.

Kelly may not even be a top 10 WR in this draft anymore. Now supposedly he has ran an average of about a 4.54 40 yard dash while at Oklahoma, so a mushy surface and the knee injury may have slowed him a little. But I mean here are his stats:

200533 47114. 342&nb sp;2 TD
200662 99316. 073&nb sp;10 TD
200749 82116. 865&nb sp;9 TD

Here are Jordy Nelson's stats in just his 3rd year at WR in his life, so he has more upside than Kelly as well. (Nelson missed 4 games last year with injury):
2007122&nbsp ;16061 3.268& nbsp;11 TD

So Nelson blows Kelly away in production and is the same size as Kelly, he is faster and definitely quicker than Kelly (Nelson ran an insanely good 1.50 10 yard dash; the same time as Darren McFadden compared to Kelly's 1.62) Nelson runs routes almost as good as Kelly and can still polish up on them being new to the position.

There is no way that Nelson is anything less than the 2nd best WR in this draft. The only WR that "might" be better than Nelson is Devin Thomas. Thomas is faster than Nelson and is big at 6'2 and had very good production at Michigan State. If you look at the others you can find something wrong with all of them. For instance Sweed isn't any better of a route runner than Nelson and doesn't blow you away with his production and is no faster than Nelson. Nelson is at least "good" at everything.

Here is my WR rankings:
Slot WR:
1. Earl Bennett
2. Early Doucet
3. Donnie Avery
4. Eddie Royal
5. Danny Amendola (white)
6. Luke Swan (white)
7. Lavelle Hawkins
8. Darius Reynald
9. Dorien Bryant
10. Ryan Grice-Mullen
11. Kenneth Moore
12. Weston Dressler (white)
13. Jason Rivers
14. Davone Bess
15. Kevin Robinson

Flanker WR:
1. Devin Thomas
2. Jordy Nelson (white)
3. Limas Sweed
4. Desean Jackson
5. James Hardy
6. Mario Manningham
7. Andre Caldwell
8. Todd Blythe (white)
9. Malcolm Kelly
10. Will Franklin
11. Jerome Simpson
12. Dexter Jackson
13. Paul Hubbard
14. Harry Douglas
15. Marcus Monk
16. D.J Hall
17. Kennan Burton
18. Samuel Giguerre (white)
19. Adarius Bowman
20. Arman Shields
20. Mario Urrutia
21. Adrian Arrington
22. Ashton Gronewold (white)
22. Josh Morgan
23. Steve Johnson
24. Nate Forse (white)
25. Brian Hernandez (white)

There should definitely be more white guys than this, but most of them either play for small schools or never get playing time to prove anything. Sickening that even the guys that get to play get snubbed by the NFL. The Samuel Giguerres and Weston Dresslers from small schools don't have much of a shot, I have them ranked much higher than any "draft expert" does. Brian Hernandez and Tommy Ellingworth are NFL level talents as well who could make it in the league if given a chance if they weren't screwed by the system.

from rotoworld.com

"Running on Astroturf at his private Pro Day Wednesday, Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly ran only a 4.65 in the forty-yard dash.
"A lot of good all that complaining did. Kelly improved just .03 on his best time on FieldTurf. He may have a hard time going in the top 40-50 picks now.</font>

This is pathetic. All this talk about people wanting to keep him down and such, seems like he is the one keeping himself down, he cost himself a lot of money, not for running that slow, but for being such a self-centered person.

If there wasn't such orgasmic hype surrounding this Kelly kid, his production/workout results combined with his pis-poor attitude would probably land him as a borderline draftable guy. However, I'm sure some team will wet themselves at the prospect of getting another black primadonna wide receiver with an "all about me" attitude and a questionable work ethic. Maybe he can create some end zone antics that will get all of the self loathing White fans to make him a permenant pro bowler.

Kelly doesn't need an excuse...he's black. I really hope Hass gets a shot, I think this might be it for him.

Well said, and undeniably true. What is the sick obsession with turds like Chad Johnson and T.O.? They're nothing more than hype, and both are lucky to always have played with really good QBs. Hopefully Johnson sits out the entire season, that would be amazingly funny. Most likely, another thug-loving team will trade a couple picks for this motor mouth who's production will drop off bigtime in the coming years (much like last season). He's not even the best WR on his own team. He runs good routes and has good body control but limited speed.Edited by: Thrashen

Malcolm Kelly to me should be drafted in the late 3rd/ early 4th round at this point w/o the caste system. Jordy Nelson should go way ahead of him. I think Todd Blythe and Danny Amendola are better players as well. "Maybe" even Luke Swan coming off his injury. And Samuel Giguere is a huge small school sleeper who has more upside than Kelly for sure.

To compare Mike Hass to Kelly. Hass should have been a late second round or early 3rd round pick at the latest. It was sickening that he dropped to the 6th and got cut by the Saints in place of such "standouts" as Lance Moore. Hass is faster than Kelly (4.56 Pro Day compared to 4.65 Pro Day for Kelly). Hass also runs slightly better routes, has better hands, is tougher and put up better stats. Kelly only has a size advantage and an advantage in strength. Both are tough guys who are unafraid to go after and adjust to the ball.

a snippet about Todd Blythe from sportingnews.com

Blythe's plight

There's nothing spectacular about Iowa State wide receiver Todd Blythe, but there is little doubt that he is in line to have a long NFL career. The question then becomes, and this is what NFL teams have been discussing in their draft meetings, is whether he is the next Drew Bennett, who eventually blossoms into a good starting receiver, or is Blythe this year's version of Kassim Osgood, who has purely made a name for himself as one of the NFL's best special teams players.

That answer for Blythe is at least a couple seasons from being realized, so don't be surprised if some team jumps up and grabs him in either the third or fourth round in the hopes that he develops like Bennett, despite the fact that most other teams have given him a sixth-round, seventh-round or even undrafted grade.

The Sporting News draft preview provides some comic relief. They have Jake Long as their third ranked OT behind Ryan Clady and Chris Williams. Dan Connor is their seventh ranked OLB ("not an elite athlete and doesn't make enough plays to make a huge impact in the NFL. He likely will still be around in the late rounds.") But Beau Bell, who rumbled and bumbled his way to a 4.9 40 during his workout day, is TSN's number one ILB. All the safeties they rank are black. Other than QB and C/G,TSN findsalmost zero NFL-worthy white players.

Well, they are different than the other magazines for sure. They rank Gholston as a 2nd round prospect. They list Amendola and Swan as draftable, and I can't find them in any other magazine. They have Jordon Dizon as the 3rd ranked OLB, Ali highsmith as the 10th, and this publication is Pre-combine, when his 40 was estimated at about 4.6. I agree, all the white safeties are ranked too low, but they are there, Caleb Campbell included. Adam Shada is listed as a priority free agent as a safety.

I don't deny they are pro-caste, but they don't deserve more negative feedback than other draft magazines for thinking outside the box. I don't know how much of the fact that they combined their magazine with the street & smith one is responsible for this.
