Top 10 Rushing Seasons Of All Time

Speaking of post season rushing performances, IMO it is harder to run for big yardage in the playoffs than in the regular season.

Top 10 Rushing Seasons Of All Time

On Saturday night, November 9, the NFL Network premieres the Top 10 Rushing Seasons of all Time at 9pm ET. I'm curious to see if Steve Van Buren 1949 and Jim Taylor 1962 are included. This would mean winning a championship counts extra. Taylor also set a record with 19 TDs that year.

    NFL Preseason week 1

Yes, we've seen this with black QBs for a while: a dink and dunk passing game.

    The Best Postseason Running Backs

Terrell Davis recently signed a two-year contract with the NFL Network as a "reporter and analyst." He will supposedly have more to do than in a previous stint with the network. I recall Don writing that nearly every "name" black player gets hired by the NFL Network after he retires.

    RIP Art Donovan

Arthur Donovan Sr. worked a huge number of Louis' fights, including his 1-round KO of Schmeling in 1938. Donovan Sr. was even sometimes called "Joe Louis' referee," which Donovan very much disliked.

    NFL Preseason week 1

The first preseason game is not very important. They use a lot of players who'll be cut next week. I don't think Woodhead's not playing means much one way or another. The Chargers may have wanted to look at other players this week, Woodhead next week.

    RIP Art Donovan

When I saw the Colts play on TV circa 1960, Gino Marchetti and Big Daddy Lipscomb were showier. Donovan jammed the middle. Art Donovan gave some colorful quotes on a HBO History of the NFL special which got him noticed in the early 80's.

    The Best Boxing Movies

I like The Harder They Fall. It was on TCM a few nights ago. According to the TCM site, they'll run it again on October 12. Max Baer has a major role.

    Toby Gerhart

As I wrote in a previous thread, unless Toby Gerhart changes teams in 2013, he will have little to show for the four prime years of his career.

    Hall of Fame candidates

It's always been tough for an OL to get in the HOF unless he played for a chanpionship team, or happened to be written about a lot.

Raiders' "Aflete" QB Terrelle Pryor admits "I never knew how to throw."

I've heard the "flick of the wrist" description applied to black QBs for over 40 years.

    Peyton Hillis

Funny thing, 45-50 years it was said blacks were the victims of "Stacking," especially at running back positions. The 1968 Sports Illustrated series on "The Black Athlete" I referenced on the Forum years ago repeatedly complained about blacks being stacked at the same position.

    2013 British Open

Phil Mickelson came from behind on the final round to win today. Woods has never done so in a major, as Don points out.

    Danny Woodhead

Probably Dickie Post, ironically with the Chargers 1967-70. If Woodhead does well in San Diego, get ready for the comparisons. Post was also short, stocky, baby-faced.

    Remember this Bowl ?

By coincidence, I happened to stop by. I remember seeing the Gotham Bowl on TV in 1961. It was played that year in the Polo Grounds and in Yankee Stadium in 1962. The games were in December, freezing whether both times. The sponsors took a financial bath and that was the end of the Gotham Bowl.

    2013 NFL Draft

(Again) Why didn't Fixing Inc. arrange for one of the black QBs to win the last Super Bowl?

    Toby Gerhart

Gerhart has given up three years behind Peterson and this is a lot for a RB.

Peyton Manning has been criticized many times on the Forum for "not speaking out against the Caste System."

Early Look at the "deep" 2013 Draft

Yep, and for a long time they compared any white WR with any speed to Lance Alworth. When Kirk Gibson played football (1978) at Michigan State, draft guru Joel Buschbaum called Gibson a "big Lance Alworth." In his rookie year (1981), Chris Collinsworth was compared to Alworth. Chris even...

    2013 MLB Baseball Season

When I first began to follow sports around 1958, Jackie Robinson was well known, but race was not as central to every story back then, believe it or not. I may have posted this anecdote years ago, but I'll repeat it. In 1961, Sport Magazine did a story in which Early Wynn (for the AL) and...

    Lawrence Auster RIP

I had corresponded with Lawrence Auster since 2001. He once told me that he was a pretty big sports fan until the late 1960's, less so afterward. Baseball was Lawrence Auster's favorite sport. Auster didn't like the fat black and hispanic players in the current major leagues. He also disliked...
