    Galen Rupp--As Important as Lemaitre

Yep, they're both in the 5000. In fact, the 5000 field is brutal this year. But Rupp is right in the thick of it. He's as good as anyone.

    2012 London Olympic Games Athletics

Three guys through to the 400m final. That's not counting Santos, who some might count. Both Borlees made it through, as well as super-teen Steve Solomon, who just recently turned 19. Solomon went sub 45 for the first time--not many have ever done it at that age. Plus, he doesn't look...

    Galen Rupp--As Important as Lemaitre

quote from today. Soak it in. This will be the best quote of the Olympics, if not the entire year 2012: In the stands, Alberto Salazar, who coaches Rupp and Farah, was not surprised. This is a man who has told anyone who will listen for the past 20 years that the greatest myth in distance...

    Galen Rupp--As Important as Lemaitre

A lot of you sprints-uber-alles types will have trouble with the name of this thread, but you just have to search the web for the reaction to Rupp's silver in the 10K to realize that it caused a much, much larger splash than LeMaitre's first sub-10. Of course, news of Christophe's sub-10 was...

    2012 London Olympic Games Athletics

Beautiful race is right, Hock. Like many people I think Rupp could have won the gold (he finished way faster than anyone), but there's the question of why he didn't kick as soon as his best friend/training parter Farah, and some think he allowed Farah to win in front of his "home" crowd. At...

    2012 London Olympic Games Athletics

WOW!!!!!!!! Why, oh why, did I sleep through the 400 heats???????????????? I just woke up to see miracles across the screen. LaShawn Merritt unable to keep his heavily drugged body healthy, pulls up lame--he's OUT! Jermaine Gonzalez, the best from Jamaica--OUT. Renny Quow--OUT. Nery...

    Steroids and Black Athletes

Ooooh--another one bites the dust! After the recent slew of Kenyan positives, we get a nice follow-through. Amine Laalou, a major Moroccan mid-distance star, just tested positive for furosemide. He would have been a medal contender.

    german sprinters

I checked for an update on Simon Schutz. The bony 16-yr-old has dropped his 100 meters to 10.60, following that up in the same meet with a 10.68 in the finals, despite cramping. That night (if I read the tortured translation correctly) he then went 21.58 (not a PR) in the 200. These are...

    2012 London Olympic Games Athletics

Here's an Olympics watch list: 100--Gemilli is the only real threat here, and I think he's a legitimate threat to make the finals, although medalling is out of the question. Would love to see PRs, at least, from Ronalds Arajs, Marek Niit (although this strikes me as the wrong event for him)...

    2012 Outdoor Track Season

Incidentally, for those of you who will be able to watch and post (I won't be able to), there should be a fast, fast, fast 800 in Paris Friday. I don't see anyone beating Rudisha--the most dominant runner I can ever remember seeing--but a lot of our guys should PR. I'm especially watching...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Raul, I'm not assuming Christophe will necessarily do badly. I certainly hope he wins. But I have been in the disappointed camp this year. It's scary watching him go into a race with the absolutely slowest time in the field, given that the two fastest runners aren't even there. All I'm...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Personally, I won't be able to watch or even comment on the race, but this weekend should pretty much settle the controversy over Christophe's readiness. Bolt and Blake are not in the race. They are, without doubt, the two fastest this year. Thus, in order to medal in the Olympics...

    Steroids and Black Athletes

The owners of the website Let's Run have stirred up a huge controversy amongst track fans. Whether they will succeed in getting track authorities to do something is another matter altogether. You can read all about it over there, but basically they took pictures of Mark Block, a known steroid...

That's a pretty funny photo. I wonder how fast Eugen Ray could have run if he hadn't reached down to scratch his balls during the race?

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Once again, I find myself agreeing with Elispeedster. Anyone who thinks that Christophe has a chance this year in the 100 is going to be sadly disappointed. Christophe needed to improve dramatically this year to compete with the Jamaicans. Dramatically. But he simply didn't. He regressed...

    2012 Outdoor Track Season

Foobar--I'm glad to see someone at least noticed what Galen Rupp accomplished last night. Sheesh, if some of the rest of you guys could stop writing about the windspeed/temperature/presumed weightlifting stats of LeMaitre, or whether or not Eaton is clean (fwiw, his mom is a blonde haired...

    2012 Outdoor Track Season

Trials report: Nick Symmonds won the 800, making it look easy while posting a fantastic sub 1:44 time. He's a legitimate medal threat now. On the other hand, I was very disappointed that none of our your college boys made it and instead the last two spots went two veteran professionals...

    2012 Outdoor Track Season

Both Brady Gehret and Jeremy Wariner made it into the finals tonight at the US Olympic Trials. Jordan Boase probably would have made it three, but he didn't run the semis for some reason. Anyway, what can you say about Gehret? We've been following him since high school, and the kid (really...

    High School track meets

One more note. In England, Sophie Papps won both the 100 and the 200 in the Under-20 age group, and she will be heading to the World Juniors. 100m time was a not-too-shabby 11.47 (I believe this puts the 17-yr-old well ahead of Hannah C).

    High School track meets

Lost in the shuffle this weekend, Devon Allen finished fourth in the Junior Nationals 200. Two of the guys that beat him were collegiate runners. Devon ran 21.04. He also finished third in the 110 Hurdles. Again, one of the runners who (barely) beat him was collegiate.

    Mary Cain

Youngest girl in the race, Mary Cain ran away from the field in the Junior Nationals. On a scorching hot day that must have been murder for running, she scorched the track even more with the second fastest time ever run by a high schooler. Her last lap (62 seconds) was phenomenal for such a...

Multiple European Countries National Championships this weekend(Assorted Results)

Raul, I think national wealth hurts more than it helps. Germany has more money to spend on drug testing, and it has the national character to be willing to do so. The Caribbean countries simply lack the character to test. They shield their athletes from testers, and they certainly aren't...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Well, that's the issue, isn't it? In race after race this year, indoors and out, he's underperformed what he ran a year ago. We keep being patient, blaming everything on wind and cold, etc, but sooner or later he's got to show that he can run as fast as last year--and that's just to be a...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Christophe is into the 200 m finals, having run a presumably leisurely 20.94 in the semifinals. Let's hope the four races he's already run in the past two days hasn't worn him out, and that he's got a little left for the finals. I'd like to see him uncork a good time.

Multiple European Countries National Championships this weekend(Assorted Results)

Raul, you can say that, but you could also say the say that about every single country in the entire continent of Africa. Takes these results from three days ago in Nigeria, for example: Warri (Nigeria), 14.6.2012 -Warri Relays- Men 100m Final A (nwi) 1 Ogho-Oghene Egwero 10.27; 2...
