Excellent points by Shadowlight. What CF lacks in quantity of posts, it clearly makes up with the quality of posts quite often. Probably explains, in part at least, the noticeable surge in visitors/lurkers to this site recently.
Good point regarding the economic structure of the XFL vs. AAF. The XFL is on much stronger footing and attorney Oliver Luck has a lot of experience running sports ventures -- NFL Europe, Houston Dynamo (MLS) and West Virginia's athletic department.
Again, I really believe the XFL stadium crowds will be a huge factor in determining the TV ratings. Basically they go hand-in-hand? The optics of too many empty seats on TV largely destroyed the AAF, by giving it a "Bush League" feel and a lot of people tuned out. So this league has a lot to prove, considering all four teams drew crowds of only 17,000 week 1. Good news is they have St. Louis' and Seattle's opener coming up, and they have sold, by far, the most tickets. Bad news, is Los Angeles and Tampa have yet to play in front of their "fans" and neither is expecting great support. L.A., in particular, could be a train wreck. Clearly, L.A. is only in the league because it's a huge TV market.
I also agree that the best case scenario for the XFL is they survive as a fringe league, much like the WNBA. Only a total fool doesn't know the "W" has a tiny fan-base (mostly black men and white lesbians) and has only been kept afloat due to an overly generous TV contract with ESPN and a whole bunch of politically correct corporate sponsors who don't mind losing money. One huge difference, however, is the WNBA is notorious for filling their arena's with "fans" that arrive with free or steeply discounted tickets. Considering all the added expenses a football team must incur (more coaches and players to pay, exorbitant insurance/medical costs, greater room, board and travel costs, ect.), I don't think the XFL could afford to give away tons of free tickets.
Couple Quick Points:
***As far as Whiggy Manziel, I think it would be great to watch him play. I'm not sure why he is not in the XFL? His excuse seems flimsy? Truth is some XFL execs have hinted he's not wanted due to his checkered history, so they will not pursue him vigorously. At the same time, Whiggy probably feels burned by the AAF. League folded after his 2nd game and he even had to pay for his own plane ticket back to Texas. Nonetheless, I think if the XFL made a serious run at him with extra pay (Like they did with Cardale and Landry Jones), he'd have been signed and playing.
***I believe the Seattle Seahawks actually flirted with the idea of using Tanner McEvoy at tight end and wide receiver. I think after he was cut by the Hawks, New Orleans tried to move him full time to tight end, but he didn't stick. They did the same thing with Dan Arnold, who was a college track star/wide receiver, and he made the team for a while...... Looking back, Tanner posted decent numbers for Seattle in very limited time -- 14/253/18.1 YPC and caught 70% of his targets in 2016/17. I guess, despite his "white privilege", he wasn't going to get multiple chances to "fully develop", like Breshad Perriman or dozens and dozens of other affletes in the KFL (Kosher Football League). To me, what really wrecked Tanner's career with the Seahawks was his costly Int. on a gimmick play @ San Francisco. The former college quarterback completed a 43 yarder as a rookie, but that sophomore pick really enraged Whigger Pete, to the point Tanner never recovered in Seattle.
***I see Winston Moss' team in L.A. has added another black quarterback, Marcus McDade. Team has 4 quarterbacks, three are black....He reportedly possess a "cannon arm". Began his journey at Fresno State in 2012, then quickly transferred due to Derek Carr. His best showing so far was with Samsung Frankfurt in the German Football League....Nice to see they are going after such accomplished quarterbacks?
***Here's a small bit of good news, but perhaps more telling of how wildly over-hyped the NBA is in terms of popularity? Week 1 XFL ratings on ESPN outdraw most NBA broadcasts shown on the network. I seriously doubt that trend continues, as the XFL seems almost as hostile towards whites as Comrade Silver's NBA.
***Finally, Bizarro World, Topps XFL style? Topps has come out with an expensive, initial seven card 7 card set, featuring 5 individual player cards. All 3 quarterbacks are black or Poly; both wide receivers are white? The two wide receiver cards are nice looking, but cost $9.99 each.
