Pulev, who is nicknamed the “Cobra†due to his fighting style, secured the IBF mandatory spot in August 2013 with a win over Tony Thompson. After Klitschko, the WBO/WBA Super Champion and IBF World Champion, successfully completed his WBO mandatory against Alex Leapai on April 26, Pulev, the IBF’s mandatory challenger, is next in line.
Promoter Kalle Sauerland stated, “The negotiations with Team Klitschko have already begun. We are excited to present a heavyweight bout in cooperation with K2, which is deserving of its ‘heavyweight world championship’ status.â€

Wlad has made it known that he wants to get the WBC title “back in the Klitschko familyâ€￾ after it was relinquished by his brother Vitali. That belt was claimed on Saturday night by Bermaine Stiverne.
While it’s possible that a unification between Klitschko and Stiverne could be made in September, both sides have mandatory defenses due. Klitschko has to face IBF mandatory Kubrat Pulev, while Stiverne must meet WBC mandatory Deontay Wilder. Barring some type of step-aside arrangements, those fights are likely next before any unification fight.

I hope Pulev gets his shot but after Wlad unifies. It's more important to dispose of paper champion Stiverne as soon as possible. This way all the belts will be on the line for a Pulev-Wlad fight.

I think you're probably right. Hopefully, King realizes that Stiverne is a paper champion and cashes him out vs Wlad later this year. They might as well take the biggest pay day now since Stiverne isn't that good and could easily lose to a lesser fighter for a lot less of a pay day. I think he beats Wilder but that's about it.

The IBF held a purse bid at IBF Headquarters in Springfield, NJ today for the heavyweight mandatory defense between world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. K2 Promotions bid $7,250,131 and Sauerland Event bid $5,290,144. K2 has 90 days to put the fight on.

Pulev demands that Klitschko take doping test

WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev met for the first time on Wednesday at a press conference in Hamburg, Germany to kick off their September 6 clash. Pulev was on the attack, demanding that Klitschko do pre-fight drug testing. The Klitschko camp maintains Wlad will only undergo doping tests in accordance with the requirements of the German Boxing Federation, which are post-fight only.


Wladimir Klitschko: “For a heavyweight boxer Kubrat Pulev got the right size, weight, and also technique. In addition, he is very motivated. Pulev has already defeated boxers who were taller than me. He is the best heavyweight boxer after the champion.”


Kubrat Pulev: “I am tested for the use of illicit substances at least six times a year. It’s unfair if Klitschko won’t pass the same tests that I do…if you don’t take the test, you’re not a correct person.”


Wladimir Klitschko: “If you don’t want to fight, you can stay at home.”

Note: The current TV contract Pulev’s promoter Sauerland Event has with German network ARD requires that all Sauerland fighters undergo random drug testing.

His camp views challenger Kubrat Pulev’s demands that Wlad undergo extra testing not required by the commission to be a clumsy ploy to get under Wlad’s skin. “We go strictly with the rules and this whole issue is only brought up from Sauerland to discredit Wladimir’s reputation!” Klitschko’s manager Bernd Bönte told Fightnews.com. “The local commission BDB is in charge for the doping and they cooperate with NADA, the worldwide well reputed anti-doping agency. They caught (Mariusz) Wach, (Sam) Soliman, etc. The BDB is obligated to publicize positive samples, which is not the case with the Austrian Federation (which sanctions all Sauerland-promoted fights). Pulev looks confident. That's good. He needs to be confident. Better to go out swing than giving half-cautious attempts.

The best approach Pulev can use is to try and turn the fight into a brawl. If he tries to outbox or outjab Wlad he loses.

Wlad looks as great as ever in his last fight. It will be difficult for Pulev.

Assuming it wasn't some kind of pro wrasslin script -but why is Wlad and company smiling? - t'aint funny, McGee - the brain damaged Briggs needs to be arrested for assault and trespassing and banned from boxing. He should also be arrested for stalking. Also, I think a high profile person like Wlad making public appearances should have an armed guard in case some doped up street bum, like Briggs, attacks him, and who's to say the next one, or Briggs himself, won't be carrying a gun next time?
