Will Shipley

Excellent, I think Clemson was the perfect landing spot for Shipley!
 
I’m predicting his freshman season turns out quite well; I think he shares carries this year, has maybe 500 yds and explodes as a sophomore to be one of the best backs in the land.
 
any news on Shipley leading into tonight’s rivalry game with South Carolina?

i read an article recently where Shipley said there was jealousy in the running back room early in the season. he didn’t mention a racial angle, but i wonder if that played a role ...

at any rate, i hope he has a MONSTER game tonight.

He didn't name them but I think Shipley was referring to Lyn-J Dixon and Michael Dukes. Dixon assumed he was going to be the starter but it didn't turn out that way.
 
I feel like Will Shipley is due for a big season if he stays healthy. He is a sophmore now and has adjusted to the faster speed of the NCAA Football. The biggest hurdle he will have is for DJ to either pan out at qb finally or for them to
go to the freshman Klubnik. I hope the latter happens as he is a traditional qb with a strong arm and accuracy to go with it.

If Clemson wants to make the playoff, Will Shipley will need to have a big season
Not going to lie, perhaps a bit too much pressure was placed on running back Will Shipley a year early? The five-star was tasked with being the heir apparent to Travis Etienne as the focal point of the Clemson ground game as a true freshman. Yes, Shipley had his moments, but Tigers fans should be in store for a breakout campaign for the highly-touted running back this college season.

See, it will serve the Clemson offense to be a tad ground-centric, at least initially. The offense will have to adjust to life without offensive coordinator Tony Elliott, who now leads the Cavaliers in Charlottesville. Not only that, but it has been well documented that D.J. Uiagalelei has not exactly run away with the starting quarterback job yet. Shipley playing well would really help him along…

In the chance it presents itself that Uiagalelei is not the guy, having a running back you can lean on will go a long ways towards helping true freshman Cade Klubnik have his greatest shot at success, should he be inserted into the starting lineup. Regardless, there will be plenty of opportunities for Shipley to showcase to everyone as to why he was a five-star recruit coming out in the first place.

If Shipley has his breakout season in the Tigers backfield, Clemson can definitely make the playoff.

I admit I am not a huge Shipley fan. I like him but I never got the 5 star rating. 4 star maybe but he is just not elusive kind of like Max Borghi and if you can't make people miss at the NFL level you are not going to succeed. Jake Funk barring injury has that ability and should thrive for 3 or 4 more years at the NFl setting. Incoming 2023' Michigan rb, Cole Cabana has absolutely no elusiveness what so ever and though he is really fast like Shipley he isint going to make the NFl. What I don't understand is on two different sites Shipley is 12 and 13 respectively on winning the Heisman this year at a mere 60 - 1. I hope Clemson's line is great this year but Shipley as of now is a one trick pony ( cutting to the right ) and I just think he is over hyped and he is no McCaffrey but then who is ? Its funny that Will S. idolizes McCaffrey and one would think he would study and try to emulate CMac's head fakes and various other jukes. Yes hes a burner but you can't run fast in a straight line if you can't get by the first initial defender or two.

I appreciate your research and that running back list BSA (I haven’t even heard of 3/4 of the guys you listed!) but I have to disagree with you on a couple points. Borghi’s straight line, one cut style isn’t the reason he’s not on a nfl roster. There are many black running backs with less talent and athleticism than borghi that have put up numbers in the Nfl. If he were to get 20 plus carries there’s no doubt in my mind he would average 4.5 plus ypc and excel as a receiver. There’s no way anyone could convince me that Borghi couldn’t at least put up Austin Eckler type stats in the nfl.

As for Shipley there has to be a reason he was given 5 stars from the scouting services who chronically undervalue white athletes and white running backs in particular. I’m sure that once he gets a whole season as a featured back his full skill set will be displayed.

BSA, thank you for your recent posts. great write ups on the RB's. However, I think if you look at Shipley's first year highlights there are many instances where he made the defense miss. Particularly against Florida State during that impressive run to the endzone where he at least two, if not three miss in route to a TD. There are one or two instances where he was tackled in the open field. I see this happening every week in the NFL to black RB's Not all NFL RB's are elusive as CMAC. There is more than one way to get the job done. When I watch Shipley. I see CMAC with more power. If Shipley doesn't make one DB miss, he has so much speed and power there's a good chance he's going to barrel over the defender and break the tackle. If you're averaging 5 yards a carry, why does it matter if you can't make people miss every time. It happens. Even to the best. It's the DB's job to make open field tackles on RB's. They should. They're supposed to be the best athletes
Now, whether the NFL let's a STUD white RB become this kind player or not, we'll see. Ryan Nall is a freak RB with power and speed, but hasn't been given the chance to become an NFL regular season RB.

Also as far as Borghi is concerned, I recall seeing a stat that he had one of, if not the most, tackles missed suggesting he is very elusive in the open field.

The simple fact is he is being blackballed because the league cannot afford another CMC-type of white running back as it crushes their narrative.

Additionally, Ryan Nall is not being allowed to play because he reminds too much of Peyton Hillis and the league cannot have another strong and fast running back emasculating the magical defenders on a weekly basis.

When CMC is retired (or no longer effective) we will likely see another white get the opportunity. Could be Shipley because his hype is great enough that if he is not given a chance it would open up too many DWF eyes.
 
I too think Shipley and Borghi are both the real deal. Shipley has a higher upside in my opinion but it depends on his health. Borghi's injuries also hurt him. Shipley was hurt a bit in his first year as a freshmen. Let's hope his body adapts
this season which I believe it will. In my opinion Borghi was smart to leave when he did because he could not afford another serious injury. The NFL doesn't give many chance to white running backs period.

To BSA's defense he did say Shipley is a one trick pony and only cuts right. If you watch his highlights i would say 80% of the time when he jukes a guy it is a cut to the right. Hopefully in year 2 with more experience he will get a little more shifty but he did pretty damn well as a Freshman!
 
I don't know what the future holds for Shipley. He definitely has a future in the NFL if Dabo uses him the right way. IMO he should just be used as a running back and leave the punt returns and kickoff returns to someone else. Let him be the workhorse in the backfield he will get the job done. I saw Zamir White run for 3 years and Shipley is better than White in every area of football except one and that is running with power. I just hope for the best for him and all-white running backs.
 
Will Shipley and Clemson wlll be on prime time tonight in a nationally televised game for thier opener. Hope Shipley can go over 100 yards
to start the season off strong. I also hope Clemson eventually selects Klubnick to take over the starting qb role.
 
Will Shipley was being discussed by some as a dark horse Heisman candidate before the season began. I look for him to emerge as a serious contender now with Alabama losing and Shipley's 238 all purpose yards performance against Florida State. Shipley will need to continue these kinds of performances and no doubt Clemson will have to run the table and win the ACC in order for him to win it. It could happen. Thoughts?

I don't think he has the numbers right now to make a huge jump in the Heisman race. He's certainly a catalyst for the team but he would need to surpass CMC's stellar 2015/2016 season numbers to get any consideration. On top of that he is a White running back. The Heisman is a political award moreso than an on field performance award in many cases. Blacks always get an advantage due to skin color as well. Other players that should be in a non-biased Heisman Conversation are Syracuse QB Garrett Schrader and TCU QB Max Duggan but the media is ignoring them both at this juncture in the season.

Thank you Leonardfan. Admittedly, I only keep up with the white players, so I don't really know who the primary contenders are. Who would you say, if any, white players have any shot at the Heisman as of now? ...and compare to the black contenders?
I was just thinking that if Shipley could finish strong and Clemson runs the table, there would possibly be top 5 consideration or better.
 
Despite the Clemson loss, Will Shipley had another fine performance. He had 72 yards rushing, 21 receiving, and 2 kick returns for 63 yards. Giving him 156 all purpose yards. He finished the season with 1182 yards while averaging 5.6 yards per carry. While watching him last night he looked fresher. Maybe the 2 week break helped. Next season should be big for him, however he will be splitting carries with Mafah again, as Kobe-Pace has transferred to Virginia.
I'm thinking next season may be his last at Clemson, so it might be a while before we see another white RB at Clemson although Charlotte's 2024 Ryan Henley has Clemson at the top of his list. UCONN, Virginia(Tony Elliott, former Clemson OC), and App State are on the radar.
Whenever Shipley does decide to go to the NFL, it will be interesting to see how he's treated.
 
Iowa starts a 3 and a half white secondary today as Hispanic Sebastian Castro will get the nod at strong safety. I was hoping for Jaxon Reboth but he has been injured all year.
