Eric Decker looks very sharp! so far 6 receptions for 89 yards

he also just had a nice end around for 15 yards!

Minnesota also have another white receiver, Ben Kuznia who is getting some passes thrown his way.

EDIT: Eric just added another two huge catches, first 44 yarder in a crowd of 3 defenders and an acrobatic TD reception, who even the people at the review booth wanted to see twice!

Eric has 8 catches for 134 yards and a TD IN THE FIRST HALF!

IOWA CITY â€â€￾ Herky tackled Andy Brodell. But it was OK. Herky got him at the 112-yard line or so.

It was the first 81 Brodell covered that really mattered.

The Iowa senior pretty much clinched the Cy-Hawk Trophy sprint with his 81-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Hawkeyes' 17-5 victory Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. The wide receiver had to run to his right to field Mike Brandtner's 47-yard punt to Iowa's 19. A fair catch flashed through his mind, but only briefly. The Hawkeyes had a middle return called and that's where Brodell took the ball.

He made gunner Euseph Messiah miss. He broke Chris Singleton's ankle tackle. He froze Brandtner with a juke.

"As a returner, you don't often get to the punter," Brodell said. "When you do, you've got to make him miss."

Herky got him. On the end line, doing what ISU couldn't.

"I don't think I've run 81 yards in a while, so I was pretty tired," said Brodell, whose career long before Saturday was 78 yards last season against Syracuse. "He knocked me down pretty good. He was the first one I saw in the end zone, so that was kind of interesting,"

The punt return for a score was Iowa's first since Jovon Johnson took one 90 yards against Ball State in 2005. It was also the 10th longest in Iowa history.

More importantly, it was the first big play Brodell made since returning from a torn hamstring last Sept. 22.

"That was the gutsiest play I've ever seen, that's for sure," quarterback Jake Christensen said. "To tear your hamstring from the bone, almost 365 days from this Saturday, I couldn't be more happy for him."

Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz was emotional Saturday when talking about Brodell's injury and subsequent return.

"We all throw injuries around so easily, we have to, teams have to go on," he said. "It just impacts a young person's life so significantly."

Ferentz went on to say that Brodell probably isn't all the way back. Brodell was limited in the spring and missed a little time in camp with a sore back, but he's been a contributor.

His numbers as a receiver â€â€￾ five catches for 50 yards â€â€￾ don't blow your hair back, but his punt return numbers crank your eyes wide open. On eight returns, Brodell averages an otherworldly 23.0 yards. His TD Saturday was his first punt return for a score.

"There is a little confidence that goes into it," Brodell said. "Until you do it in a game, you never really know. Is it going to be there?"

Is his speed back? Brodell has heard that since spring practice. It's a big question.

Brodell's career started to take off at the end of his sophomore season. In the final two games in '06, he caught 13 passes for 318 yards and three TDs. In the '06 Alamo Bowl, he did it against a Texas backfield that was pretty much all NFL draft picks.

Whether his speed is back or not, Brodell isn't sweating it. And Saturday, the results pretty much spoke for themselves.

"Regardless of how fast I am after my injury, it doesn't really matter," he said. "I'm going to be out there and I'm going to try to contribute any way I can."

now, onto some info on some other of our guys!

here's an interesting piece on South Dakota superstar, Dan Skelly. some excerpts:

As a dual running and passing threat at quarterback coming out of high school, Dan Skelly arrived at the USD in the fall of 2005 with the intention of becoming the successor to then-senior and Harlon Hill award finalist Wesley Beschorner.

Skelly quickly found that the position would not be an easy one to attain, as a player with a similar skill set from the same recruiting class named Noah Shepard was making rapid strides in practice...

Both players were redshirted their freshmen year, and Shepard won the starting quarterback spot soon after the start of the 2006 season...

Realizing that Shepard would be a solid lock at quarterback over the next few years, Skelly and his coaches thought of other ways he could contribute. In 2007, Skelly was moved to the wide receiver position to utilize his speed. Today, he and Shepard are teaming up as one of the best quarterback/receiver combinations in the Football Championship Subdivision.

The bond between Skelly and Shepard is apparent when looking at how the two have performed in the first three games of the 2008 season.

Skelly had 98 yards and two touchdowns in USD's opening week win against St. Ambrose. In the second week of the season against No. 5 Northern Iowa, Shepard and Skelly connected eight times for 144 yards in the loss. Skelly topped that performance Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana when he had eight grabs for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the 31-30 loss. That performance earned Skelly the Great West Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Kansas wide receiver Kerry Meier's transformation into one of the nation's top pass receivers has been nothing short of remarkable.

The converted quarterback is tied with Rice's James Casey for the national lead in receptions with an average of 9.67 grabs per game. Interestingly, both players were recruited to their colleges as quarterbacks.

Meier's quick start is even more remarkable considering that he spends much of his practice time still with the quarterbacks. He is considered as the Jayhawks' No. 2 quarterback behind Todd Reesing.

"I can't say that I could have made that kind of prediction, but I could have told you he was talented," Kansas coach Mark Mangino said. "We knew Kerry was intelligent and a good athlete. He had good size, strength and speed. And I felt like he was a guy who could transition into the position.

"But the most amazing thing is that he spends 50 percent of his practice time as a backup quarterback. And the only time he meets with the wide receivers is when they meet with the quarterbacks."

Meier produced a career-best 11 receptions for 120 yards in the Jayhawks' 37-34 loss to South Florida Friday night.

throughout the BYU-UCLA game, the announcers repeatedly beseeched BYU quarterback Max Hall to throw away from "dangerous" UCLA cornerback alterraun verner (that's not a typo. it's his real name.

)

anyway, after BYU wide receiver Austin Collie beat him like he stole something for an entire half (10 catches, 110 yards, 2 touchdowns), the announcers finally grudgingly admitted that Collie was a solid player and that verner would be seeing him in his nightmares all week.

the performance by the Cougar offense was so dominant, Collie didn't even play in the second half or the beating could've turned into a real wilding.

I checked out the Conrad Meadows videos JC and he is very elusive, but not at the level of Barry Sanders or even Sam McGuffie or Brandon Wegher IMO. He is a very good player though. I don't know if he is even at the level of Wes Welker, but he was still very impressive. BTW Barry Sanders is not my favorite player, Sam McGuffie probably is, if not Brandon Wegher or Kevin Curtis is!

BTW, does anyone think Andy Brodell might have recovered now. If he can put up some impressive stats this season (he didn't this last game though) he could get drafted. Brodell might be the most naturally talented white receiver in this draft. 4.4 speed and very elusive, I just hope his hammy holds up! The Hawkeyes may switch QBs to Stanzi and he is the better passer. I just hope he looks Brodell's way and if not Trey Stross's way!

some good news about some of our guys who have been tearing up opposing secondaries...

first, a couple of article blurbs on Texas' Jordan Shipley.

Jordan Shipley does a lot of pretending.

When he is asked to run a double-move route, he actually pretends he's running the first route.

When he was open by a good 15 yards on a flea-flicker play Saturday, he said he was pretending he was in the sandlot, playing catch.

But after Texas' 52-10 victory over Rice, Shipley couldn't pretend his five-catch, 155-yard, two-touchdown performance was meaningless to the Longhorns. Shipley was so busy he said he was tired in the first half, and his legs felt like "Jell-O."

"I had a lot of fun tonight," Shipley said. "I've been through a lot of stuff, and the first half tonight was probably the most fun I've had here."

All of Shipley's receptions came in the first 30 minutes.

And four of the five receptions went for 30 yards or more.

The fifth-year senior from Burnet would much rather talk about going deer hunting or fishing with his roommate and life-long friend, quarterback Colt McCoy. Or the concentration it takes to catch a 60-yard scoring pass when you're as wide open as you've ever been. Pretty much anything else.

"Hopefully, that's behind me, and I've moved on." Shipley said of his health issues. "It's something that doesn't even cross my mind anymore."

But it's impossible for those who know Shipley not to reflect on where he's been, especially now, after he played what coach Mack Brown said was his best game at No. 7 Texas in Saturday's win over Rice.

more good news from another white wideout who was bitten by the injury bug earlier this year; Austin Collie.

It took a few weeks for wide receiver Austin Collie to shake off the rust of missing most of fall camp with a stress fracture in his right leg, but now all his hard work and rehabilitation is paying off in a big way for the Cougars.

Collie has turned in huge performances the last two games, and has returned to form as the playmaking deep-threat teammates, coaches and fans alike had hoped to see this season ...

He simply ran circles around UCLA defensive back Alterraun Verner en route to 110 yards and two touchdowns.

And what about his ability to pick up the slack for injured receiver Michael Reed against Wyoming? No problem.

Collie promptly went out and grabbed six first-half receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns -- one being a 62-yard bomb from quarterback Max Hall late in the second quarter that seemed to knock the life out of the Wyoming defense ...

Neither Collie nor the rest of the first team offense saw much second-half action in the past two games, mostly because they were so explosive early the coaching staff didn't think it sporting to leave them in the entire game.

and here is a very interesting piece on Kansas' versatile wideout, Kerry Meier. who just happens to lead the nation in receptions despite never having played wide receiver at any level until last year.

an excerpt:

hate to belabor this storyline, but it just continues to make itself more remarkable. Meier leads the nation in receptions (29), helping Reesing lead the nation in completions. Meier is chronically open, has hands like fly paper and has done it all while spending less than half his practice time at the position. He doesn't even attend receiver meetings. And he doesn't have the mohawk all the other receivers agreed to get.

"If you look at how much he really reps at wide receiver and how well he plays in the game," offensive coordinator Ed Warinner said, "it's amazing."

His 6-foot-3, 225-pound body, speed and excellent hands give him a legitimate chance at playing in the NFL now, which would have been unlikely had he been KU's starting quarterback.

my buddy transfered to Kansas from Cerritos JUCO, and he told me about Meier like two years ago. he said they call him "the body" bc he's got the most ripped physique of anyone on the team. at first i was bummed bc he didn't get the starting gig, but its clear now that he's a phenomenal athlete and will dominate at receiver. as much coverage as his story is getting i wish the media would harp more on his athleticism. god i can still remember the freaking hype overload over Kordell "Slash" Stewart, it's clear Kerry deserves some of that level of attention.

what would be a good nickname for Kerry? i'd call him "the Truth", as in the truth about white male athleticism.

As of right now, there are 6 whites in the top 20 in receiving yardage in the FBS! There are 9 in the top 35. I hope this continues and gets better as the season goes along. Dan Skelly still leads the FCS, and whites occupy 4 spots out of the top 10, and 9 out of the top 20! A couple of players that I think have been missed are Pat Simonds at Colgate, Tim Toone at Weber State, andJoe Bellini at Rhode Island.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

After caste-hyped FR AJ Green dropped a few passes (one resulting in a turnover), UGA finally threw to sure-handed WR Kris Durham (2 catches for 44 yards). They spend most of the game throwing to Green & Massaquoi (who dropped or missed a slew of passes). As usual, Durham caught everything thrown his way, but unfortunately was injured on the 2nd reception (ankle) & may be out for a while.Dawgs got soundly whipped 41-30.

Colonel, thanks for the heads up about Tim Toones at Weber State. i just flat missed him, and he is a big-play guy.

i will include Pat Simonds from now on, but he plays for a Colgate team that doesn't throw the ball much. he is their best wide receiver, though, and is currently in the Top 20 of the FCS. another small school guy we've missed until this week is Johnny Spevak from Central Washington. he's a heck of a player.

Rhode Island's Joe Bellini has yet to have a 100-yard receiving game this season, and as such i've not felt he was worthy to earn a mention. i only include go-to guys (and a few tight ends who've had big days) in my small school list.

also, as of this weekend, in the FCS (formerly Division IAA) white receivers own the #1, #2, #5, #6, and #7 spots in the Top 10.

and that obviously doesn't include the dominant performers at Division II.

from the big-school list, i had missed Indiana's Andrew Means, who is the Hoosiers best wideout.
