I may be old, but we did play against Houston's Run and Shoot and BYU's spread offense, so I had to learn those extra receiver formations.Edited by: SteveB

DraftDaddy, as always, has done a good job recognizing small school talent at the wide receiver position. here are four white athletes that they suggest have a shot at earning some looks from the NFL with a strong senior season.

Kole Heckendorf is the total package at wide receiver. he's tall (6-2), he's fast (timed at 4.4 in the 40), he's durable (started all 33 games during career), and he gets open and catches the ball (has caught a pass in 25 straight games and 32-of-33 overall).

"strangely," Heckendorf was not recruited by Division I programs, despite being the best receiver in the history of Wisconsin high school football (even led the nation in receptions as a h.s. junior).

Charly Martin

West Texas A&M's Charly Martin has battled injuries for much of his career, but when he is on the field he is virtually uncoverable. at 6-2, 210 pounds, he is big enough to make the tough catches, and he is fast enough to be a deep threat.

the definition of big-play receiver should probably have a picture of John Matthews from San Diego beside it. Matthews is a virtual unknown, however he has never averaged less than 20 yards-per-catch for a season in his career. last year, he set a new USD single season record with 16 TD receptions, snaring 47 balls for 1,088 yards.

the most raw of the four white receivers DraftDaddy mentioned is Libery's Matt Lambros. Lambros, a canadian, has the pure athleticism that coaches covet. at 6-3, 210-pounds, he runs a 4.4 40, but he has never translated that athleticism and size into production on the field. his prospects look tough this season, as he is set to miss four weeks with a broken finger and a pulled hamstring.

as was posted on another thread, Kole Heckendorf had a HUGE game to open the season: 8 catches, 179 yards, and 3 touchdowns.

here's what they're saying about him today...

North Dakota State quarterback Nick Mertens picked up where the Bison's former quarterback left off: looking for No. 9.

That would be the number of senior receiver Kole Heckendorf, who caught eight passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-6 victory over Austin Peay State University on Thursday. Heckendorf was a favorite target for Steve Walker the last three years.

The highlight came on the first play of the second half when he took a Mertens sideline pass, cut to the middle and turned it into a 69-yard scoring play.

"We were trying to go for it there and it worked," Heckendorf said.

He notched NDSU's first two touchdowns in typical style. The first, a fade route in the back corner of the end zone, made it 10-0 in the first quarter.

"He positioned himself and was able to come back and make a great catch," said NDSU head coach Craig Bohl.

Heckendorf showed his speed in the second quarter taking a Mertens pass in the middle of the field and beating a couple of Governor defenders to the goal line.

Heckendorf, by the way, caught a pass in his 26th straight game.

"I starting (sic) clapping for him he's so good," said Austin Peay head coach Rick Christophel.

Wake Forest also had two white receivers that looked good on opening night. Ben Wooster is listed as a tight end on the Demon Deacons' roster, but he lines up split-out wide. he had 6 catches for 90 yards and 1 touchdown, a 43-yarder.

teammate Chip Brinkman was money in the red zone. two of his three receptions went for touchdowns.

Brinkman runs a reported 4.5 40.

Kyle Hudson is an extremely athletic wide receiver (read his bio or any of the threads where i've mentioned him before), yet once again he is being labeled as some sort of after-thought in the Illinois passing game. well, what there is of it with jheri curl "juice" williams under center.

Hudson, who is also an incredible baseball talent, was the best wide receiver on the Illinois campus as a true freshman, and led them on the field as both a frosh and a sophomore. however, now that they have an "exciting" quarterback, Hudson is almost forgotten, if not outright ridiculed. Hudson had just 12 catches last year despite starting 10 games.

he has 4.40 speed.

and high jumped 6-10 as a junior in high school! yet "somehow" he doesn't have what it takes to make plays under the Fighting Illini's new regime. what does it take for a white athlete to be good enough?

I've noticed there are some black QBs who pass to the black targets before the white ones, even when the white is more open.

Although for the most part a black QB like a white QB is just trying to win the game to keep his job. I don't know though, maybe some of the black QBs have bought into the propaganda more that the white WR can't play. Or maybe juice Williams just isn't accurate at all and is throwing dump offs nullifying Hudson's deep speed. It is probably more the second with a touch of the first explanation. Black QBs tend to be a little less accurate by my analysis on average.

Glad to see West Texas A&M's Charly Martin mentioned as well as Texas' Shipley.

Texas also has a David Thomas-clone in TE Blaine Irby a 6-3, 235 lib soph from Camarillo, CA. Irby lead all UT receivers against Florida Atlantic Saturday with seven catches for 62 yards and one TD. Shipley was second with four catches for 52 yards and a TD.

Also, UCLA TE Logan Paulsen had an 18 yard catch against Tennessee before breaking a bone in his foot. His backup, Ryan Moyaled all receivers in the game with7 catches for 65 yards anda TD!

Casey at Rice is a freakin stud!! I watched him last week against SMU and he lined up at RB, FB, TE, WR, DE, and holder on the field goals/extra points. He can play almost every position on the field.

I hope Hudson doesn't give up on football. He is very talented and Juice just didn't seem to look for him at all and then they benched him. These guys have to start transferring like the blacks do. The problem is the blacks are always thinking NFL, and the whites are skeptical if they have a chance at the NFL and play it conservative by sticking with their original scholarship school for academic and social reasons.
