More bad news updates: True freshman Arby Fields has been anointed the next "chosen one" for Northwestern. This is despite the fact that Alex Daniel and Mike Trumpy look better- judging from their high school film. Typical bs!

Also, Ralph Bolden has played great for Purdue that Dan Dierking has become an afterthought. Even once Jaycen Taylor graduates, Dierking will have no more than a Kevin Faulk type role for Purdue. Bummer! Well, at least this one we can't complain it's unfair.

Touchdown runs of 61 and 29 yards for Joe Martinek! He's absolutley dominating the 4th quarter.

Gerhart's off to work again in a big way, he already has 89 yards rushing before the end of the first quarter including a 60 yard td run!

kre08, Toby has 156 and a TD on 13 carries at the half!

He left the game very briefly after getting hit hard close to the goal line, so one of the black freshmen RBs got the TD. I'm listening to this game on internet radio, for free!

I'm currently watching the Stanford-WA game, and Toby Gerhart is running all over Washington. This guy is John Riggins reincarnated. If there is even the slightest justice in this world, he'll be given a fair shot to play RB in the NFL and not asked to gain weight and play fullback.

I know we've been disappointed over and over with Hester, Leonard, Hillis, Jervey, Staley, et al, but this guy is the real deal. (not that the others weren't, but he probably has the best shot of all to actually make it in the next level)

Gerhartreminds me of Peyton Hillis and Chris Wells when he runs the ball. Of course we know how Hillis was screwed even in college, as Jimmy Chitwood so astutely wrote about last year when comparing the treatment of Hillis and Wells. We'll see what happens to Gerhart in the NFL; it's been 38 years since Riggins was draftedwith the intention of being used as his team's main running back. It's not hard to see why so many here are less than optimistic when the NFL's anti-white track record at certain positions is so long and virtually without interruption.

Foobar I have to disagree. I want to stay positive but Jervey and Staley were even better runningbacks than Gerhart. They had more speed and were athletic freaks. We know how their careers turned out. Let's just hope Gerhart gets an opportunity.

WA33 okay? Toby is bigger, stronger, and is a PHYSICAL freak. Don't dwell on the past bud.

I have to say that out of all the white running backs, he excites me the least. Yet since I think that, he'll probably be the one to succeed. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'm also hoping I really suck at evaluating talent and he's actually better than guys like Sharp, Hillis, Leonard, etc and I'm just missing it.

It's on one of the Fox Sports regional channels. The announcers don't seem to be afflicted with Caste-speak either.

Yes, it's called the Fox Sports College Network, I believe. I'm just fortunate my current package carries it.

And yes, I did not hear anything but good praise for Gerhart's performance. There weren't any of the usual caste code words to describe his great performance tonight.Edited by: foobar75

Gerhart about score on his 60-yard TD as the Husky safety is helplessly trying to stop him:

The Hillis/ Beanie Wells comparison is spot on, other than that I think Gerhart is a little faster. You could also compare Gerhart to a more explosive Michael Bush, another Brandon Jacobs, or a Marion Barber type. I compared Gerhart and Hillis to all 4 of these guys on Youtube when I was arguing with DWFs who only compare whites to whites. Michael Turner is similar as well, but he's shorter and more compact.

Gerhart's style as a RB is a quick cut or two and then he attacks the hole. He's a cutback powerback who doesn't waste time dancing around and he uses angles well in the open field to get the most yards and arm tackles aren't going to bring him down.

Gerhart is getting a bit of hype from guys like Gil Brandt and from NFLdraftscout- so I think he has a shot to make it into the 2nd round without the media and DWFs scoffing at the selection. If Toby goes to the right team he may end up starting sometime down the road, but he'll probably have to do at least some length of apprenticeship.Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

BTW, Jared Hawkins is back in the mix at Vandy. He had 11 runs for 61 yards. Lets hope he continues to AT LEAST evenly split carries.

Brandon Wegher looked great against a good Penn State defense as well, splitting carries. He was instrumental in helping Iowa upset PSU.

Cory has 1 catch for 16 yards this season. It was the first game of the year. He hasn't seen any action since then. He only had two catches all last year. He might as well be redshirting.
You'd think that as bad as PSU sucks (last year too), Glanville might try something a little different with his players.
