There seems to be a lot of white RBs and WRs that are of Irish ancestry. I wonder if the Irish have a slightly higher propensity for those positions than your average white. The Irish are a less numerous ethnic group than most Europeans and I can name plenty of top speedy football players that are Irish. The Irish don't do quite as well in strength competitions, boxing or wrestling as Slavic or Nordic peoples, but seem to have great agility and short area burst. Go Irish!

You often can't tell much about a person's ancestry just by their last name. Someone could be named McGuffie and be 1/8 Irish. Also, many names in this country that look Irish are actually Scotch-Irish, i.e. Scottish.

It's live and only in the 2nd quarter. I do not care for Michigan's new offense. They look like garbage.

Of course its live. Sam isn't getting much blocking, but maybe they will adjust and things will open up for him. None of the UM backs are doing anything yet.

RichRod gave him a few snaps to appease the fans. But now he's had enough. It's back to blackness as usual for Rodriguez.

Sam started the second quarter, and just fumbled, but it was the a bad handoff from the QB, they ran the zone read and the QB decided to keep the ball, but REALLY too late, Sam already was running away with the ball.

Kind of quick to judge him there aren't you Riddlewire? Sam has more carries than the rest of his teammates with 7 minutes to go in the game. Michigan was just playing like crap until a few minutes ago. None of the backs are doing well.

8 carries for 8 yards... and none of the others did any better, minor had 21 yards on 4 carries, but it all came on one carry...

i hope they line gets better as it seems Sam will have a prominent role! ho good is Utah's defense?

Nope. RichRod was judged and convicted well before this year. Even the sports media is willing to say that Rodriguez is eager to eventually get "his players" in the system. There's no real mystery about such a euphemism.

On a slightly related note:
LOL @ Caste Slut Bobby Petrino. Losing to a I-AA team.
Maybe you shouldn't have been so quick to annoint your black true freshmen as superstars, huh Bobby? (Although Casey Dick is stinking up the entire state, too. But that's Houston Nutt's fault.)

In happier news:
Derek Lawson is getting solid playing time as RB#2 for Arkansas State, which is moving up and down the field on TAMU. Too bad about the Red Zone difficulties, though.

UPDATE: RED WOLVES TAKE THE LEAD!

You were talking about his treatment of Sam, notRod's past. Sam got more carries than anyone else on the team. So you were wrong, at least in this game. You might be right in the end, but to say in the first half of the game that Sam has already been screwed is stretching it quite a bit.

ASU Red Wolves pulled off the greatest win in the program's history tonight. An 18-14 win over Big 12 representative Texas A&M. For a constantly struggling Sun Belt team with perpetual budget deficits, this a very big deal.
Dual Threat QB Corey Leonard (my avatar):
15/28 160yds 1TD 0INT, 17 carries 86yds rushing
Derek Lawson:
6 carries, 29 yds

Nah. At the time I posted, it was midway through the first half. At that particular moment, Sam had been out of the game for a bit of a stretch. It looked like he got a token start and then was benched in favor of RichRod's "chosen ones". From my perspective at the time, I was right on.

Ok then, that proves my point even more. You don't even give them enough time to use him without making some kind of accusation like that. Thats what is so hillarious. I could understand if someone made that statement after a game or two or three, but after the first quarter? Wow!

It doesn't really matter because Sam wasn't screwed today, either in the first quarter or the whole game. He's a white freshman for crying out loud. Do you expect a Caste coach to just give it to him. From what you already said, your answer is no. So, it was an unreasonable statement anyway you look at it. Sam finished with more carries than anyone else on the team.

You have to admit that Rodriguez acted against type. And against national trends. There was zero reason to expect that Sam would get significant playing time after that point, and all the reason in the world to believe that he would only get a couple of 'breather' carries for the rest of the game. I see my statement as perfectly legitimate and fair. RichRod was not RichRod in this game. He has a history and it's perfectly acceptable to judge someone based on their history.

According to you Riddlewire, you wrote this at the end of the first quarter:

"RichRod gave him a few snaps to appease the fans. But now he's had enough. It's back to blackness as usual for Rodriguez."

At the end of the first quarter,Sam had run the ball once and caught two passes, while Shaw, his black freshman competitor, had run the ballonce andonly caught one pass.

While you can judge someone based on their past actions, you jumped the gun in this case. You rushed to judgement based on 1/4 of a game, and you were incorrect. Thats my point.

here are a couple of white running backs i think you missed...

from UC Davis - Joe Trombetta 21 carries for 54 yards and 4 catches for 27 yards. while not his best game, last year as a freshman, he led his team in rushing attempts, yards, and touchdowns and also was a potent weapon in the passing game. he's another young talent to keep an eye on.
smiley32.gif

and from North Texas Micah Mosley. 10 carries for 56 yards in his opener. we talked about him some last year, and we certainly don't want to forget him.
smiley2.gif

also, the Phil Morelli who is now playing for San Diego was at Colorado State last year. he transferred.

and one last comment, strangely James Casey from Rice is listed on the team's site as a tight end/quarterback... weird.

Glyndon Bolasky is also now not listed on the running back depth chart anymore for the AZ Wildcats. He will move to defense.

JC, thanks for the info on Joe. I never got around to searching for many FCS stats last night. I did cover Micah yesterday. I also remembered Phil being at CSU, so its good to see him getting playing time. James Casey was a great tight end last year, and I hope they continue use his talent, no matter where they line him up. I think our playershave donepretty well sofar, and CSU will be playing today.

hey Col, great job compiling those, although Lippincot had 9 carries for 83 yards and a TD, plus 2 catches for 33 yards. however worrying thing is that both Fragger and Taua got 9 and 12 carries, so the same or more than him.

I disagree fully, thoroughly, and completely.
And I can't believe we're having an argument over me not praising Rich Rodriguez enough.
Here's the concession I'll make: At the end of the season, if McGuffie is the Wolverines' leading rusher, I'll say some very nice and complimentary things about RichRod. Until then, I'll remain silent about him. I won't even bash him for anything.

Allow me to say that this so far has been the most exciting as far as whites running with the football that I have seen in a very long time. Their were also quite a few Hawiians and Polynesians who also ran the ball well. I'll make up a list and post for those of you interested. I think we might be turning the corner on the brothas and their domination of the position.
