The second most hated Heisman trophy winner ever apparently did not host a party and did not go out with Josh Gordon last week. Once again the media just makes up a story likely leaked by the famed "unnamed sources" and every media outlet reports it as absolute fact.
We would have probably never heard of two active players skipping practice (Josh Gordon and Justin Gilbert) if it had not been for the fact that the media can somehow concoct the story that it was all Manziel's fault. So a player who is inactive on injured reserved gets crucified for being late for the all important "hamstring treatment" while high profile, highly paid active players miss practice during the week unnoticed by the media until the inactive player is late to a rub-down. Geez, Donovan McNabb spend his whole career as an active starting player finding excuses to miss practice and film season. God forbid a player on IR misses a date with a masseuse.
On a side note: Expect more: It's going to be pretty tough for a single 22 year old to not go outside his house for the next 7 months. You can bet that when he does the media will be right there with a horrific tale of unbridled partying reported by unnamed sources.
I know it would be somewhat arrogant and hard to do but I wish Manziel would take the FU approach to the media. Apologizing and constantly putting down yourself hasn't worked well for our guys. I wish he would say something like this: In the past year, I've played 7 quarters of football, I've had one bad game, I've been late to an voluntary private football camp, and late to a hamstring treatment while on injured reserve. I have not beat my girlfriend, I have not beat children, I have not assaulted anybody, I have not taken illegal drugs, I have not committed any crime whatsoever not even a traffic ticket, and I have never missed a practice or team meeting. After 7 quarters of football, I've got the media calling for my dismissal. It's time to put things in perspective.
