3 things. 1. How about Buster Douglas recovering from a knockout vs Mike Tyson? The only reason I bring that up is because of this motivational video that speaks about Douglas's resiliency during that match. Who knows if what is said is actually close to factual at all and not just the case of M Tyson being overconfident in his preparation.
2. I recall hearing this recent Fury fight was the first US boxing match to be shown via pay-per-view since 2003 Mike Tyson vs LLewis. I found that interesting and just wrote it off to the rise of the superior MMA fights. However, before I clicked on this thread, I saw this stat. This made me wonder if there was an ulterior motive to the lack of promotion of boxing outside of Manny P and Floyd M. I mean, why didn't the Klitschko brothers get the notoriety or had the sports media slob over them the way they did with a young Tyson, Holyfield, or Lewis? To be honest, I just wanted the Fury fight to go the way the highly promoted Fedor / Rogers fight as seen below. Nevertheless, it's great to see Fury come back and overcome adversity the way he has. Good luck, God bless, and Godspeed to him moving forward.
3. In all honesty, I know very little about the current landscape of professional boxing. The overall lack of marketing/promotion of boxing in the US, along with the Klitschko issue I stated above, the rumors of fights being fixed, coupled with miscreant promoters / fighters ruining the purity of the sport, etc., has led me to lose great interest in boxing.
My question is, I noticed with Lennox Lewis to the Klitschko brothers to now Fury vs Wilder, the heavyweight fighters have all been extremely tall, much unlike Mike Tyson. Was Mike Tyson just an anomaly that could do well against taller competitors or maybe one of the last of his kind when it comes to succeeding in the HW division in boxing regardless of height. Fury moving the way he does at 6'9" is truly remarkable and are fighters akin to his physical mold the foreseen future in boxing? If so, that's another reason for focusing on MMA for me; just look at the varying sizes of Fedor defeats in this highlight clip. Despite my thoughts on that, it's great to know the reality of the boxing title holders and I will have to keep my eye on many mentioned here. Thanks!
