London Humphreys originally intended on being a track star in college or maybe even a star in basketball or baseball, instead of signing to play college football. In the spring of 2022, Humphreys broke Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s regional record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.73 seconds. On the baseball field, he hit about .500 in the summer before his senior season. And in basketball, he can do a windmill dunk without a problem. Yet, he turned to football during his junior season after initially walking away from the gridiron after his freshman season. But he returned in 2021 and racked up more than 1,500 yards receiving. As a senior in 2022, he averaged 24.4 yards a reception and totaled 1,100 yards and 12 touchdowns. His father, Clark, a former assistant coach at Vanderbilt and Auburn, was an All-America pole vaulter at Auburn, where he won a national championship. His mother, Erin, also a former Auburn assistant, was an All-America decathlete at South Carolina and qualified for the 2000 Olympic trials. “I mean, he’s one of those rare athletes (who has) got the highest ceiling of probably anyone we’ve coached, athletically,” Ingle Martin, his high school coach, told The Athletic. “It’ll be really interesting to watch when he gets into a full-time football program what happens and how he progresses. When he broke Jalen Ramsey’s 200 time, I think everyone kind of took note that he’s got world-class speed. Talk about hitting the genetic lottery, he hit it.”
