First time ever seeing Morrison fight. Holy crap this guy was a brawler with some serious power and hand speed!

Sad to hear that Tommy Morrison is near death. I remember first seeing him in Rocky 5 and I don't care what anyone says, I liked that movie. I especially loved the ending with Rocky punching out George Washington Duke (obviously based on Don King) sending him flying on top of a car.

The thing I find sad about Morrison is that he seems to be in denial about his condition. I remember in 1996 when he announced he was HIV-positive, he seemed to be taking responsibility for his actions. After that however, he just sort of went off the deep end with the AIDS conspiracy theories, getting pec implants, telling people he teleported out of a bar and that he could re-grow limbs. He could have been dominant much like the Klitchko brothers are today, but unfortunately his demons got the best of him. I hope passes peacefully.

Usually when a story comes out like this the end is near. In the past I have read a few similar stories about Morrison where he was wasting away but then he took his medication and his body recovered. From what I read about AIDS is that if you stop taking the medication the virus can build up a tolerance to the medication and then the drug ****tail can't work anymore. If this is the case with Morrison hopefully he doesn't linger too long. I'm still hoping for a rally similar to his ko of Hipp but I'm not expecting the miracle.....

I was a big fan of Morrison back in the 90's.He was probably the hardest hitting heavy in that era alongside Lennox Lewis.Morrison possessed the hardest left hook and Lewis the hardest right hand.In terms of one punch power i would say Morrison hit harder than Tyson as Tyson done most of his damage with combinations.Thats a great video, you wont find many HL videos with better hitting.

i'm in full-blown ******* mode because this is my first fall kickoff of american football season as a CF poster, and boy is it angering. but i never loved Morrison, even as an adolescent DWF child. just like Tyson, an over-developed thyroid gland surely helped him to bulk and punch out his peers, but unlike blacks (who gestate and develop slightly more quickly than whites), morrison never won a big fight. maybe IV drug-use sped his disease, but i certainly don't know for sure. of course we might consider the jew casting couch money that took him in the ass to get into the rocky franchise before he knew he was gay from AIDS. i don't know him and don't want to, but it is PRETTY HARD to get AIDS if you are not taking mens' HIV loads into your butt canal. so tell all the stories you want about his reformed life, it should be a wonderful story if it wasn't being used as subterfuge for ****** masquerading... talk more about his "thousands" of "girlfriends", as if that wasn't some compensating indulgence of the lowest-hanging fruits. meanwhile gay earvin "magic" johnson continues to be free from the fatal symptoms of gay cancer because he is a spokesman for ambiguity and his huge ****** son can prance around and say genetics has nothing to do with it! (AIDS, not faggotry)

Tommy wasn't gay.

Morrison probably got both AIDS and Hep C from intravenous drug use. The Hep C virus is generally not sexually transmitted, it's spread blood to blood through sharing syringes or from blood transfusions.

I'll put my foot in my mouth and take your word for it. Does "Magic" Johnson have Hep C also? Why are their two paths so different (obviously Johnson was more prominent and rich)?

Johnson is likely taking care of himself, taking his medications and all. I assume that wasn't the case with Morrison.

Johnson doesn't have Hep C, just AIDS.

Sadly, Morrison was into recreational drug use, while Johnson probably never injected recreational drugs. But Johnson is very likely a bisexual, that would explain why he has AIDS.

Surprised and sad to hear this. I liked Tommy. He, and a very few others, were all whites had to cheer for during the bad days of the 80s and 90s. I hear his wife was by his side. She's a real champ that lady. At least he had a real fine woman till the end. Can't ask for much more than that.

In my world
This the end of an era. This man was the last white American heavyweight champ in an era that being white in boxing was equal to a crime. He had one of the best physiques in the history of the sport, the dude was INCREDIBLY powerful and strong. If he was born and raised in let's say Ukraine or Spain the same man could have go down as one of the greatest heavyweights in history. The American anti-white media didn't let the man breathe and take the right steps in his career. He still managed to beat George Foreman among other blacks and become the WBO world champion. When I look at him and the GREAT German Alex Schulz (he was robbed the world title in three different occasions, only man in history) I see two GREAT white heavyweights who happened to fight in the decade (90's) where the "black affletic superiority" crusade and "chosen" manipulation had reached ULTIMATE HEIGHTS!

When Morrison lost to Mercer I was only 11 and I still remember it as one of the very worst days of my life. I wish the man had better treatment, better management, better promotion and he could have achieved way bigger things! He still made us proud and considering the era he fought in, he made us proud x2.

Anyway, Rest In Peace Champ. His left hook will go down as one of the "deadliest" in the history of the sport!

Rest in Peace Tommy Gun. Morrison was a prolific power puncher with incredible hand speed. His best wins were against George Foreman and Razor Ruddick(almost decapitated Razor with a insane left look to the jaw) and others. However, when he needed to step up he lost his most important big fights, 1st title defense, Mercer and Lennox Lewis. I believe these losses were due to an undisciplined lifestyle of partying, booze and illicit drug use. In other words Tommy was his own worst opponent.

Always wondered how much greater Tommy would have been if he had the discipline and lived a clean life.

I'm 24 years old, and I've been following boxing as a die-hard fan for basically my whole life. I started following the sport closely in my early teens, that would have been around the year 2000 or so (give or take). So, Tommy Morrison was a bit before my time period (Tommy was at his best in the early/mid 90's). That being said, of course I know of him, and Im aware of his fights with George Foreman, Lennox Lewis, and Ray Mercer, among others. Ive seen on youtube some of his amazing knockout wins, and of course, he also had some knockout losses.

Tommy always struck me as a super talented guy. His punching power, seemed to be right up there with arguably the greatest of alltime. He hit with roughly the same level of power as Wladimir Klitschko, Mike Tyson, and other big heavyweight punchers of the past and present. Of course, to be a great fighter it takes more than just power though. Tommy came up a bit short in other areas like training ethic, defense, boxing IQ, and such. Tommy also could have been a bit bigger, I remember in the Lewis fight, he was so much smaller. Size (weight, and reach) certainly helps in boxing. Tommy had all the talent and potential in the world though, and a tremendous athlete.

Obviously, Tommy lived the "fast life" outside of the ring. Many boxers are known as guys who live the "fast life" (drugs, prostitutes, strip clubs, motorcycles, thrills, etc), notable examples being Diego Corrales, Tyson Fury, Edwin Valero, Arturo Gatti, and even Floyd Mayweather Jr. Tommy lived fast and went out with a bang, just like Edwin Valero, Arturo Gatti, and Diego Corrales. All these guys lived fast, lived life to the fullest and went out with a bang. It is sad that Tommy died, but I think in some ways he probably lived life to the fullest when he was here. They say "the best die young" and that is certainly true in the case of Gatti, Corrales, and Morrison.

Does "Magic" Johnson have Hep C also? Why are their two paths so different (obviously Johnson was more prominent and rich)?

Of course, I don't know Tommy personally, so I only have interviews and articles to go by.

But in media interviews he has given in the past 5 years, he often denied that he had HIV. He claimed at various times that he was HIV-negative and that he had a false positive test. He also advocated conspiracy theories that HIV didn't cause AIDS, or that boxing promoters who didn't like him came up with an idea to fabricate a false HIV-positive result. It seemed like Tommy just didn't want to accept that he had HIV. Because of his beliefs, I think Tommy refused to take adequate treatment against HIV and that's probably why his health deteriorated so quickly compared to Magic Johnson.

Tommy had ups and downs in his life, euphoric highs and manic lows in his life and I think we can all relate to that.

RIP Tommy. Take care champ.

Here's another highlight video of Tommy Morrison, showing some of his amazing KO's over his career (that left hook was something dangerous!), as well as some footage of him training:

Yes his insane partying literally cost him his career and his life at least 20 years prematurely. I know the Bentt fight he said he three floozies scattered throughout the arena so that they didn't know they were being played. I think the Mercer loss was because of his greeness in big fight situations. Until he fought Mercer he literally only had one opponent that could withstand his attack until he wilted due to fatigue(Vaulin). By the time Morrison fought Foreman he was much more mature and had survived Hipp and Williams in give and take brawls. I think Lewis was too big for Morrison. People have to remember Morrison was a naturally small heavyweight that built himself up with weights and PED's, so when he fought Lewis he was at a natural strength plus a reach disvantage. Anyway I'm happy he didn't linger and it looked like he was comotose since ESPN broke the story about him lieing in a hospital on the verge of death. RIP....

I can't get my head around the chest implant he had, and, at least according to him, that was what ultimately did him in. A guy who has a chest implant can't be normal.

Tommy wasn't all that hard to hit nor that hard to hurt. He could have used a better chin. But man could he throw punches. With power and in combination, and speed. Very gifted in that area. Fun to watch. But just freaking scatter-brained. I think he had some serious attention deficit disorder going on.

This article just about sums up Morrison's tragic yet inevitable premature death.....http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/9628475/tommy-morrison-wild-ride-ended-tragic-denial

With all the big white guys in the USA I can't believe that they can't produce more heavyweight boxers such as Tommy Morrison!

Parrot I believe the better question in this Amerika is WHY big White guys do not pursue the route of Heavyweight boxing? That is the question. Most CFers know the answer. A clue; the DWF mentality.
