My opinion is that Jacksonville desperately needs a quarterback.
But it'll never happen.

Couch is one of a growing list of white quarterbacks in the era of "athletic quarterbacks" who was given far less opportunity to succeed than black ones, especially considering he was a first overall draft pick.Couch was made the scapegoat for a terrible Browns expansion team, much like David Carr was made the sacrificial lamb in Houston after playing for years behind an o-line that couldn't give him minimal protection.

It really is mind boggling that Couch isn't even in the league as a backup. All his 5 years in the league were with the team that drafted him (Cleveland) without any other teams giving him a chance at a new start.

And it's not like he completely sucked, I mean a QB rating in your last year in the league (2003) of 77.6 as a starter on a bad Cleveland team would at least indicate the guy could be a good backup wouldn't it? He also completed 60 percent of his passes for his career when he had no quality talent at WR. Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

Jax would be a good fit if they allowed white QBs to play for that team. But they don't due to caste system racism. And they pay for it.

i can see Brian Brohm in Jacksonville next season, especially if they are high enough in the draft - and they just might be...

Their GM is Shack Harris and we all know Shack QB = Black QB

That much is true. I believe this may be Shack Harris's last season in Jacksonville so it wouldn't be so far out of the realm that they may draft Brohm next year

Being a Kentuckian and a Couch fan I'd love to see him get a decent chance. He's an excellent athlete, as a high school senior he was a legit contender for Mr. Basketball in KY.

I think it is funny people label Couch a bust. I think he did pretty good considering the circumstances. He had no wr, running game, o-line or really any defense either. He had Butch Davis play musical chairs with him and Holcomb and he still did put up respectable numbers. Any of those QBs from the 99 draft would have been lucky to put up numbers like Couch did during his tenure in Cleveland. Couch is a real good football player, just not given a fair shot. I hope his arm is healed, I think he could be a starter again if given a fair shot.

Couch worked out for Jacksonville and is going to Atlanta next.  The Falcons are a team that could use him.  The Jags could use him, but we know the situation there.

Well, we can at least hope Leftwich continues to get injured and/or underachieves again and Garrard continues to be erratic at best, and Couch becomes the starter at some point during the season. If that becomes the case I'll feel a lot better about Matt Jones' chances of becoming a successful receiver in the NFL. Couch will know how to find Jones and get the ball to him.

I wish you were right. Jax used to be my team but I don't even watch football anymore. Harris ruined it for me. I will never forget him saying that if you gave him the option of a white QB and a Black QB of equal ability he would only pick the black QB. He claims he is trying to get even for all the years that blacks were shut out from being quarterbacks. I cant stand the big headed "Mr." Harris. Also I see where Couch was signed for 2 years by Jax.

I pulled this from a Fantasy Football newsletter I receive. Unfortunately, this seems like a more realistic assessment of Couch's situation.

Here it is:

** QB COUCH ATTEMPTING COMEBACK **
Florida Times Union on Tim Couch: Jaguars HC Del Rio replied, "No," when asked if QB Couch would compete for a starting or backup job, so he'll either be a camp arm or compete with QB Quinn Gray for the 3rd-team job. "He's got an opportunity to come in here like anybody else who's in camp," Del Rio said. With Gray sidelined with a sprained ankle, the Jaguars needed a 4th arm in camp to throw with QB Byron Leftwich, QB David Garrard and rookie QB Lester Ricard. Couch hasn't played in the NFL since Green Bay cut him at the end of training camp in 2004.

Even the rookie quarterback is black. How long until the Jaguars challenge the Dolphins' record of 21 black starters?

All the Jags need to do now is demote Nick Greisen and Matt Jones and Caste System superheroes Del Rio and Harris will be able to fulfill their wet dream.

Tony Pashos, Chris Naeole, and Vince Manuwai are not black. So the Dolphins' record is safe for now.

Now what you be talking about? Jax got the two best young QBs in the league, well almost.

All the Jags need to do now is demote Nick Greisen and Matt Jones and Caste System superheroes Del Rio and Harris will be able to fulfill their wet dream.

On NFL.com Matt Jones is listed as a back-up to Reggie Williams. The two starting recievers as it stands now are Williams and Wilford. Only Nick Greisen left.
