After his first round 65, the Tiger lovers were creaming their pants thinking he was back to form since his divorce was finalized. Tiger was asked if he still thought he could pass Jack's majors record: he said "absolutely". Two days later, he's plummeted down the leaderboard. Now, the excuse is that he's working on a new swing with a new swing coach.
He's done. Golfer's can lose their mojo quickly and they never get it back. Think about guys who were top 5 and contending and winning in majors and when they fell from the elite they never came back: David Duval, Corey Pavin, Mark O'Meara, Davis Love III, Vijay Singh, Retief Goosen. You don't even realize it until a few years after and you look back and wonder what ever happened to that guy, he used to contend for every major. There is a fine line between elite and average. Anybody can have a good round, but to do it for four rounds is different. The guys who are beating Tiger are young, talented, long and hungry. He's done. He's not going away completely because he was good enough to win 78 tournaments and 14 majors. He may even win a couple more tournaments here and there or make a run at a major. Even a guy like Tom Watson can pop up and almost win a major. He's done.
