I was just wondering what happened to the white South African sprinter these days? They used to have a ton of 100 meter guys like DuPlessis, Nagel and Quinn. Also they always seemed to have a Van Zyl running some hurdles for about a decade.
I've noticed for about 5 years now all their top sprinters are black albeit they are not usually world class. Is it the new found opportunities maybe some of the blacks have there though the crime rate is the highest in the world there.

LJ Van Zyl is still running. He's doing decent but his times aren't as great as they have been in the past. He's made quite a few Diamond League appearances this year. Olympic finalist and a guy we also saw around the DL a lot, Lehann Fourie, had to retire due to recurring injury and a subsequent lack of sponsorship.Le Roux Hamman is a young guy in the 400h for them and also 110 hurdler Andries van der Merwe won the youth world championships in 2011 but I haven't heard much of him since than.

The hurdles in South Africa are more loaded than the US in terms of white hurdlers which is insane when it's a population of 4 million white Africans v. 200 million white Americans. It goes back to the post made about white participation in track. Though, I do expect to see high school teammates Robert Grant and Devon Allen representing the US in 2016.

South Africa has a commission on sports who has an agenda for all national teams to be quota filled where possible. So funding has poured into the ghetto areas for Blacks and has leaked from the working class Boer communities. Aside from middle and long distance runners South Africa has never produced world class Black runners. I did notice the national record was recently broken by a Black sprinter in the 100 and he did a sub 10 at altitude a high 9.9X.

Wilhem Van der Vyver was a junion sprinter from South Africa that took a medal at the World Youth Championships around 4 years ago. He had amazing talent. I thought he could have possible been another Morne Nagel type but he just disapeared off the map. Not sure whatever happend to him. Yeah they don't seem to be looking for white talent like they used to down there. I think we all know why. I don't expect to see anymore elite talent from there. If the families are smart they will leave the country as it is a very dangerous place to live. I know many are poor and have no other option.

Yes the previous poster was right. The dice is being loaded in South Africa right now to push out the whiote south africans from sports. See my post about it here http://www.castefootball.us/forums/showthread.php/12795-Africa?p=300249&viewfull=1#post300249
Thanks for the info. 2 young white South Africans I did find was 19 year old Jon Seeliger and 22 year old Emile Erasmus. Both have run the 200 meters in 20.7 this April with virtually no wind. At least they still have guys out there and the cupboard is not totally bare. They may not be a Simon Magakwe but its good to see the blacks still have some white competition out there.

Danie van Blerk, a new name that I never heard of, ran 10.23 this week.
The wind was -2.0, otherwise the time would have been much faster.
On the other hand, the time was altitude assisted, which improves the time.
So the wind and altitude cancel out, and probably his time of 10.23 is a good indication of where he is at.
Hopefully there's more to come from this new sprinter from South Africa.

So much for this record having any meaning. The new record holder was popped for skipping three PED tests in a season and is suspended until 2016. I think when this happens if he or she established a new national or international record it should be expunged from the record books.....http://allathletics.co.za/2015/04/magakwe-handed-two-year-ban/

Ps. If that were to happen the 100M national record would go back to Johan Russow....

I find it hilarious that even though whites are only something like 9% of the population in South Africa and the racist ANC is in complete control of the government, they still need quotas in order to ensure that blacks are even on the sports teams.
