Btw, wanted to say the ref did a fantastic job. Dave Fields, great ref.

...

Yes he did. He was unobtrusive the way a ref should be. I put up his name earlier because I thought someone might know about him. I was afraid they were going to use one of their mafia refs like they do for the Jones fights in las vegas.

Scored it a shutout and so did all the judges. What a win!!! But you could see Hopkins had only one plan and that was to defend and survive. I watched his eyes and all he had fixated on was Sergey's hands. I will give Hopkins credit for being able to roll off punches and not get hit flush-flush.

Yes, good ref. Give credit where it is due.

All of the talk about Hopkins making a career out of cheating must of got to him so he fought to show he still has good defensive boxing skills and can survive without the cheating. But the idiots that kept saying Hopkins was going to "school" the Russian are just full of ****.

I am amazed that they didn't give the decision to the n'r! The British announcers are just as bad as Kellerman and company. Even after rd 7 they said that Kov won but the n'r landed a couple of good shots. The n'r won zero rounds. The n'r was a punching bag.

N'r: "I'll never let a white boy beat me."

:eyebrows:

If that statement wasn't absurd before this fight, it sure is now.

Yes no low blows or feigning rabbit punches. I guess Hopkins was so overwhelmed he couldn't pull any of the old tricks he has used over the years. Kovalev won this more than Hopkins lost because of father time. The few times Hopkins threw combos he looked like the guy that has schooled lesser fighters over the last few years. His chin is still granite like, even when he was getting bombed in the 12th. The British television team were screaming for the referee to stop the fight but he looked fairly steady to me. I was actually semi worried that Kovalev might gas out going for the kill, but Hopkins was in pure survival mode and couldn't counter.

Several points on this post.

God, this has been one of the best weeks in America! 1st. A lot of White Americans woke the **** up! on 11-4-14 and voted the democrats out of office, and now we have this. 2nd. I give credit to Bopkins for surviving 12 rds against the best and No. 1 killer fighter in the 175 lbs division. To Bopkins credit he survived 12 rds against the best 175 lbs out there! Hopkins was also gracious for giving credit to Kovalev at the end of the fight.

Jackson and Kovelev devised the plan I thought would work. Keep the distance and punish at all angles of the 50 yr old. Hopkins had no answer. Sergey won 12 of 12 rounds that punished a 50 yr old man. Like I said no excuses, age and physics comes into play.

Like I said 2 weeks ago, he had to maintain distance by mixing up shots to the body and head as evidence by the knock down in rd 1.

Kovalev would destroy retarded Stevenson if they ever fought. Stevenson knows this. He F'd up by not taking the fight. Kovalev's boxing world is before him. And HBO is all over him.!

My thoughts on the fight:

Would have scored it 120-107 for Kovalev. He won every round and being generous to Bernard you maybe could have said there were 1 or 2 even rounds.

Bernard was visibly rocked throughout the fight, dropped in round 1, and thoroughly bullied. Bernard took a lot of punches and we all know Sergey hits very hard. Its amazing Bernard wasnt KOd because he took some huge punches. He was staggered a few times and seemed out on his feet in round 12.

I've been watching boxing 15+ years and I've never seen Bernard beat up and out on his feet like that. This is the most comprehensively someone has ever beaten Bernard. Even the Calzaghe fight wasn't this bad.

I'm not a fan of Bernard but it is interesting because I can remember him fighting in the late 90 ' s early 00''s and I guess this is finally the end of the road for him. He took a beating tonight.

Sergey absolutely dominated and this is a career defining fight for him. His punches were excellent and more importantly, Sergey's technical skills were superb and he showed a great ring intelligence . It's one thing to be a big puncher, but entirely another to be a big puncher who can also employ technical skills and use great intelligence.

I thought Sergey fought a perfect fight. Bernard is a legend and this is a big win for Sergey. Was super impressed with Sergey.

Sergey will fly through Stevenson. Sergey has fought better competition in my opinion, and has looked way more dominant in his fights.
Stevenson fought Dawson, who showed in his last fight how overrated he is, and Cloud who is nothing more than a journeyman.

He stayed on the outside and wisely avoided B-Hop's sneaky head butts.
Excatly, Carcharias, no way a 50 year old fighter beats a 30 yr old fighter. Especially a Fighter of Sergey's intelligence and ability. What I find astounding is how Dan Rafeal thought Hopkins would pull it out. ?

Like I said Bopkins in his final throws gives credit to a smart destroyer that is Kovalev. Hopkins would easily beat retard Steveson 9 out 10 times. Sergey even stated this!

Somehow Hopkins knew Sergey was going to use his long range body shot (jab); don't know if any of you caught it, but it looked like Hopkins was wearing trunks with extra padding in the front and he carried them extra high. Check it out.

Kovalev and Jackson's game plan for Hopkins is a friggen no brainer. Stevenson will avoid him like the plague! The sky is the limit for a smart and intelligent fighter that is Kovalev. Count on it!!!

Agree. Stevenson will resist fighting Kovalev as long as he can.
