The bad news is that Tiger Woods tied for second by shooting 62, the lowest final round of his career. Rory's drives were erratic but fortunately his short game was superb and he held off Woods. But of course the Tiger-centric media will be in full foaming at the mouth mode now that their idol almost won a tournament.

Rory gutted out a big victory yesterday at the Duetsche Bank Championship. I was really worried for a while because bigunreal had not done any complaining about how all of the White guys ahead of Tiger were going to fold. Without all of that 'power of negative' thinking going on I thought for sure this was going to be the one time where it actually happened.
Fortunately Tiger played true to form and Rory stumbled a bit but played smart the last hole and Oosthuizen was not able to overcome his own scuffling to go ahead or tie. The stories I have read have complained "what's wrong with Tiger?" Why can't he catch guys when they are going bad? As we have pointed out before Tiger almost never runs anyone down. What he does is build big leads and protect them or at least not get challenged down the stretch. Tigger has never been the type to come from behind and it's more media BS to insinuate that Tigger is worse now because he isn't doing it.
Rory's win ties him with Tiger at 3 for the year but McIlroy has been the much better player and is ranked number one. In a perverse way the new paradigm: Tiger being good but not great, has it's advantages. With Tiger still in the hunt the lapdog media is forced to pay max attention to golf and pant and whinny at every Tiger swing. But since Tiger is no longer dominant all of that caste-media attention is so much wasted energy when their hero fails to live up to their impossible desires for him. So we get to delight in all of the Tiger worship being drummed up and then fall flat. What could be sweeter?
Another thing to remember is that there are a lot of fans besides us that hate the clown. He is the 2nd most disliked athlete in amerika after Mike the dog killer. So there is a lot of joy out there in seeing Tiger wince and pout as another tournament slips away. Doubtlessly the media knows that Woods is a big draw both for those that like and those that dislike him. Too bad for them they are in the latter group.

BTW at the end of the tournament Rory went to Oosthuizen's caddie and shook his hand with a 'soul brother' handshake and then shook hands with Oosthuizen like a White man. What is the meaning of that? Is the 'soul-brother' handshake reserved for people of a lesser class? Did Rory know the caddie and consider him a 'bro? Was he tryin' to be down wit the working man? I have not figured out the sports celebration congratulatory hand formula, [and I note no one on this site is helping me out by posting their observations!] but I fully intend to figure out the formula for when the classic handshake, the soul-brother handshake, the fist bump, the hand slap, etc. are appropriate.
Rory has followed up his big win at the U.S. Open last year at the age of 22 with the best season of any golfer in 2012. He won his second major and is the only golfer on the PGA Tour with four wins this year. He shows every indication of being the best White golfer since Nick Faldo and Tom Watson, and hopefully since Jack Nicklaus.

These days, it seems like everyone has an opinion on Tiger Woods' swing, future in the sport, on-course mindset, struggles on the weekend ... and the list goes on and on. When you have 14 major championships and happen to be the face of the game, constantly being put under a microscope and analyzed from every angle is nothing new.
Woods is used to the questions about his game, but over the last month, a majority of them have centered around a completely different topic: his budding friendship/rivalry with Rory McIlroy.
Woods and McIlroy have been, shall we say, incredibly chummy recently, which led some to wonder if Woods was getting close to golf's rising star because he viewed him as a serious threat on the course.
Two-time British Open winner Greg Norman certainly believes that's the case. In a recent interview with FoxSports.com, Norman said Woods is "really intimidated" McIlroy.
"What I'm seeing is that Tiger's really intimidated by Rory," he says. "When have you ever seen him intimidated by another player? Never.
"But I think he knows his time's up and that's normal; these things tend to go in 15-year cycles.
"Jack took it from Arnold (Palmer). I took it from Jack, Tiger from me and now it looks like Rory's taking it from Tiger."
Now here's the deal: Norman has said a lot about Woods over the course of the last year. He thought Woods was undeserving of a Presidents Cup spot and would never win another major in his career, so take his opinions with a grain of salt.
Is Woods really intimidated by McIlroy? Maybe so. But looking back at some of Woods' recent comments, he's probably more envious of the kid's game than anything else. While he isn't exactly nearing Champions Tour territory, Woods can't pull off a lot of the same shots he used to when he was in his 20s.
When Woods looks at McIlroy, he probably sees a lot of himself in the 23-year-old -- a rising talent who's just starting to hit the peak of his career. Woods' time isn't up, as Norman said during the interview, but I think the baton is certainly being passed at this very moment from one generation to another.
Believe what you want, but I don't think Tiger is intimidated by Rory. In all honesty, I think he's finally found a peer on the course who he believes has as much talent as he did when he was coming up through the ranks. There's a kinship there that most people can't see, and for the first time ever, Woods feels comfortable enough to let his guard down and share things on the course.

Charles Barkley made an appearance on Waddle and Silvy’s radio program on ESPN Chicago and during what can only be assumed was a great segment — it was Charles Barkley, after all — the topic of how Greg Norman opined that Tiger Woods is now intimidated by pal Rory McIlroy came up.
And as Barkley is wont to do, when he expressed his opinion on the subject, he was provocative, insightful, and above all, entertaining. And in this case, a little sexual innuendo thrown in there courtesy of an unintentional — yet hilarious — double entendre.
“I would like for him to just blast Greg Norman … That situation gave everybody a chance to dump on you, and [Tiger] still tried to take the high road. I’m not a high road guy. I want him to come out and really blast Greg Norman. Rory made five straight birdies on the back nine of the final round to win the Dubai World Championship on Sunday, which meant he achieved the very impressive feat of winning the money title on both the European and PGA tours in 2012. Hopefully he has staying power and continues his great play next year and beyond.
The sports section of the local paper has a picture of Rory and his girlfriend, the pretty tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, posing beside his winning trophy. He has good taste in women.

So much for the media constantly reminding us of Rory's Friday collapses, athough there's only been a handful of times Rory has shot high rounds on Friday.

I like what Rory had to say in his interview following his PGA victory and 4th Major when asked about winning more Majors and chasing Tiger Woods and Jack.
He said he wants to take them one at a time. First, to win the Masters and get the career slam and then catch Faldo as the greatest European golfer of all-time with 6 Majors and then go from there.
I think that's both realistic and smart considering all the young talent in the game today, Fowler, Reed, Spieth, Scott, etc. He seems to be keeping humble and modest unlike some other athletes who become very famous after winning at their sport.
This is what needs to happen in order for someone to rival Woods. For one of the great young golfers to win Majors early and often!
I just hope he can keep it going over the next 9-10 years. Would love to see him get 14 or 15 Majors!

After hitting an iron shot into the drink during today's second round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship (formerly the Doral Open), which has all of the top 50 players among others in the field, Rory threw his club into the water.
Not a good move. ESPN, which normally all but ignores golf except when Tiger Woods is playing, currently has "Rory Throws Club Into Water" as one of its prominent homepage headlines.
And the Golf Channel responded predictably; on Golf Central not only was Rory's club toss made a big deal of, it inspired a segment consisting of flashbacks of other pro golfers throwing clubs, replete with running commentary from Brandel Chamblee. Now normally, the on-set Golf Channel personnel never miss a chance to bring Tiger Woods into a segment or discussion. However, the greatest club-thrower of them all was never mentioned or shown. The show was presided over by Rabbi Rich Lerner, perhaps the most notorious Tiger nut-hugger of them all, who seems to be Golf Channel's main propagandist, but I'm sure the higher-ups, if any, would have done the same had someone else been hosting tonight's Golf Central.
In the meantime, Rory needs to be careful. He quit in the middle of a Florida tournament last year when he was struggling, and now he's thrown a club into a pond. The system likes nothing better than to tear down very successful White athletes, and McIlroy won't be an exception, especially if he continues to win majors.

Rory throwing that club into the water is exactly the sort of juvenile, ill-mannered, unprofessional behavior for which we’ve chastised Tiger for so many years. McIlroy has never acted like that before (at least that I’ve noticed) on the course, so let’s hope this in an isolated incident...
As Don alluded to, I doesn’t take too many of these sort of occurrences for a successful white athlete to draw the everlasting, irrational hatred of the corporate media and hive-minded, pod-like DWF’s.

I'm not sure how may clubs McIlroy has thrown in the past, but he has broken or bent a few. Once at the Irish Open he bent a Driver and then at the U.S. Open in the final round he bent an iron while trying to break it.
Everything I've heard so far hasn't been all that negative towards McIlroy. Most have made light of it. Carl Paulson said this morning on PGA Tour radio that there's no comparison to McIlroy's latest club throwing to the many times we've witnessed Tiger's temper tantrums/club throws.
I don't like to see it, but it's the way this generation acts when they don't do well or get their way. These guys are so much more catered to and spoiled than the Palmer's, Hogan's and Nicklaus's. There's no excuse, but we're all human and prone to mistakes. I think Rory will be fine.

Rory has a very likeable personality, and he is refreshingly candid when talking to the media. After he threw the club he was interviewed by Steve Sands of Golf Channel, and did a great job of showing both remorse and humor about the incident. He should get a pass, but he still needs to make sure he doesn't have any more Tigeresque moments of poor sportsmanship.
Rory won the World Match Play Championship today, prevailing over a field of 64. He played seven matches over a five day period to prevail. He's now the first and only number one seed to win the event other than Tiger Woods, who has won it three times but not since '08.
McIlroy also joins Woods and Jack Nicklaus as the only men since WWII to win 10 PGA tour events before the age of 26. Rory turns 26 tomorrow.
This week's event is the "fifth major," the Players Championship with the famous island par 3 at the 17th hole, always an entertaining event with large and enthusiastic galleries and a world class field.
