as much as I like seeing national pride, I understand his move to Turkey. the question I have will Ramil run for Azerbaijan in the WC? I read somewhere that your government was willing to let him run for them in the WC. any truth in this?

bad start, again with the quick "pop up". he needs to fix that! but other then that he had nice top end and a decent time for no real competition.

his reaction is good, just has no drive phase. he fixes that problem and with good competition he can run sub 10.

To say no drive phase is an understatement. I don't think I have ever seen a professional sprinter run that fast consistantly while popping straight up similar to how a little kid runs. Wow is this guy good. Get him some proper training dammit. This is pissing me off. He is too talented to not have been taught how to sprint years ago. What a race though. He stands straight up out of the blocks.
That's very basic stuff. Can't believe his coach hasn't worked on that.

Agreed. I dont know what makes me angrier. His poor start or the " Swedish " guy in lane 5 named Benjamin Olson. I never knew Swedes had dread locks. Its the sign of the times I guess.

This could be because he is more of a 200 meter runner where the start isn't as important. But you guys are right he runs the 100 like a junior high kid, otherwise his form is very smooth and the speed endurance is world class.

I was just watching Guliyevs race at Novi Sad from 2 years ago. He stays down for about 2 strides where as Lemaitre slowly rises to 90 degrees after about 15 meters. Im wondering how many hundreds of seconds he loses when he just pops up like that. I know he was injured last year but its nice to know he hasnt regressed like so many of our other sprinters. How does Kuc go from 10.1 to 10.6 in a matter of weeks?

Kuc looked to me like he pulled something. I could be wrong but he looked to be in pain and wasn't running hard for the last part of the race. He also could be tired as he just raced and ran a 10.25 a few days earlier.

Hey White Lightning. I just watched a rerun of Guliyev and his 20.04200 meter run. Is it me or does the initial angle of him running the first 50 look like he has a really long nice stride and in the last 150 it almost looks like he purposely shortens it and I can see the Michael Johnson comparison. Im wondering what he could do if he lengthened his stride cadence? What do you think?

Wow--watching that video all I can do is agree wholeheartedly with WL and Jack. Ramil's sheer talent is matched only by the dreadfulness of his technique. The first 50 meters compared to the second 50 meters--Jekyll and Hyde. He'll be a 200 stud eventually, but even that will have to wait until he cleans up his start and drive phase. Sheesh!

I think his stride length to frequency is fine as shown in his top end. its his lack of drive phase that keeps him from breaking 10. his pop up technique added a good tenth of a second onto his time. he is every bit as talented as Lemaitre, he just needs the right coaching. granted they have two very different styles for people who are close in height & body type. my feeling is if rocket was to train with CL they would be very evenly matched. with CL having a slight advantage in the 100m with his long stride and Ramil having a slight advantage in the 200m due to his shorter stride(helps run the turn better). with that said, I hope his Turkish coach notices the problem with his drive phase and fixes it ASAP!

it's all been said, but yes, he has sub 10 capabilities, but to run sub 10 all the phases must be there. He needs a coach dammit!

you hit the nail on the head with that statement! with any luck, coaches in the US with see a guy like Lemaitre and start giving white kids a chance.

July 9 is the Meeting de Atletismo de Madrid, from the IAAF World Challenge. Guliyev will be there; Steve Mullings and Travis Padgett will also participate. I'm volunteer and I have 2 free tickets.

I would love to see him get down to around 10.10 but with the race being in Russia, I won't hold my breath. The weather can be crazy there even in the summer. Good luck to him and Kuc.

Kuc ran 10.50 in the heats and didn't qualify for the final.
