Poor Matt Jones

Just to keep us focused on how powerful this odious Caste System is, I thought I'd include the following little blurb from a well-known fantasy website:

The Florida Times-Union reports Jacksonville Jaguars HC Jack Del Rio has already given WR Matt Jones a private message that he's not always happy with his demeanor on the field. On Monday, Del Rio went public with the message to Jones. "I'm not comfortable with some of the body language he's exhibiting," Del Rio said while reviewing the team's 13-7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday. After making no catches in the opener against Tennessee, Jones had three catches against the Falcons but continued his practice of sometimes loping down the field, especially when he's not the main receiver. Del Rio declined to say when he talked to Jones, the team's 2005 first-round draft pick, about the issue. Because Jones doesn't appear to be eager to take contact over the middle and sometimes drops passes when he's hit, Del Rio was asked if he thinks the receiver is "soft." "I don't think that's something [soft] that anybody ought to ever say about an athlete," Del Rio said. "I'm not sure that's appropriate." Del Rio, though, said that body language can make a difference because the players "feed off each other." "If you come into a room and you're smiling, you can infect people around here. A guy like FS Reggie Nelson, he's so full of energy. When he enters a room, he has an infectious ability," Del Rio explained. "It's kind of contagious. Other people feel energized. I think conversely, sometimes when you have a more casual demeanor about it, it can be misconstrued." A quarterback in college, the Jaguars drafted Jones to be a wide receiver, and he hasn't made a smooth transition. Jones had 36 and 41 receptions in his first two seasons. When RB Fred Taylor was asked if the veterans have a problem with Jones' attitude, Taylor said he has a good rapport with the wide receiver. Taylor also said, "We're trying to light a fire under some guys," but declined to name those players, saying, "You didn't ask me about anybody else. You asked me about one person. I'm not talking about anybody else." Of Jones, Taylor said, "If he's into the game mentally, that's fine. Physically, he doesn't have to show all that rah-rah, that jumping up and bouncing off the walls. That doesn't impress me. It doesn't do anything for me."

Jack Del Rio- a special reason to hate the Jaguars.

What a shame that Matt is being railroaded by Del Rio. Jones should have been given the ability to start at quarterback, rather than blunder bust Jarrard.

he needs to move on, as soon as possible. he's one of the, what, 5 whites on Jags? i am actually surprised that they stll let him play, but i think he's on a very short leash.

Matt Jones has no chance to succeed in Jacksonville. He will probably only catch 30 -40 balls this season. He is capable of catching about 60 on another team that uses him effectively.

It is sad to see this happen to Matt. He is one of the most electrifying athletes on the gridiron. I hope he can somehow go to another team that will treat him right. If I were him, I wouldn't be too happy about things either. He knows he's a thoroughbred being asked to play like a mule. Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Jones hasn't been making progress at the receiver position. This is most likely because of the team he is on. I am sure he will eventually be cut by the Jags, especially because of his skin color.

if he is cut a LOT of teams will try and sign him and he can pick the one where he can actually make some noise and motivate himself properly.

well, he's in his third year, so 2 years left after this season. he signed five-year, $8.45 million contract back in 2005.

He has that left on his contract but he is not being treated fairly. I have read many reports where announcers state, "he doesn't play up to his 40 time." This basically means they are stating he is slow.

This is entirely the fault of Del Rio's perceptions.
I watched Jones for three years at Arkansas. That's just the way he looks when he runs. Del Rio can go check out plenty of videos on YouTube. When Jones is embarrassing those black corners by leaving them sucking dust, he still just looks like he's "loping". Jones has never once looked like he was at a full run during his entire career. Long legs and a huge stride will do that. He's faster than any player on Del Rio's team. Even when he's not the main receiver, he's moving faster than Jones-Drew could ever dream of running.

Some good news for castefootballers, as all reports indicate that Matt Jones is having a "terrible mini-camp." Perhaps the team will finally part ways (trade, cut, or otherwise) with this underused, underappreciated, superstar WR in the making.

Check out these quotes from the local media puppets....

"Matt Jones had a very bad practice on Thursday, which led to his lack of reps on Monday and Tuesday. There is something afoot between the Jaguars and Matt Jones right now, and it isn't good for either one. More on this later."

"According to reports coming out of Organized Team Activities (OTA's) over the past week, Matt Jones has been underwhelming in his efforts."

"According to one media attendee, reports coming out of OTA's from last week indicated that Matt Jones had one of the worst practice performances that any of the coaches had ever witnessed."

"At the practice today, Matt Jones did not take any repetitions during practice."

Teams I'd like to see him land on (where he'd likely start) include the Ravens, Eagles, Bengals, Titans, Jets, Cheifs, or Dolphins. Hopefully Del Rio and Shaq Harris cut Jones ASAP.

I'm guessing he won't start on any team, not right away. He's white and damaged, a "proven" bust.

But teams willing to take a chance on him and giving him a fair shot might find themselves making him a starter after a season.

Matt Jones needs to hire a personal coach/mentor, if he hasn't already. Let's get this show on the road, time's a wastin'. Someone he can rely on, it works for Tom Brady. Fred Biletnikoff, Don Beebe or someone with that type credentials would not be bad. It would shut up some of the crowd that says he is lackadaisical or disinterested. It would also make potentially interested teams take note of his commitment. This might be insulting to Jack Del Rio - who cares.

That's actually some good advice Quiet Speed, you should find out if he has a website and send him that advice. He certainly needs to do something different and hiring a guy like Beebe or Largent or even a guy like Chris Carter might do wonders for his image and even on the field production.

That's a thought 301. I would certainly point out Ed McCaffrey's career if I had a chance to communicate with Jones. Cut after his first three years, Ed went on to flourish becoming a Pro Bowler and acquired, what, three Super Bowl rings.

He certainly needs to do something before he is the next great white athlete who works at Walmart stocking food items or if he is real lucky going back to Arkansas and be a Assistant QB coach. That shouldn't be his destiny, with his freakish talent.
