Wow, I remember him being an overrated player from my childhood but never looked at his stats. He’s actually a terrible player. 77 career touchdown throws vs 84 career interceptions. Not one season where he averaged more than 200 yards passing per game. As a running QB, he also wasn’t that impressive. 400-500 yards at best.
I see that the team won a good amount during those years, so I’m guessing that extended his tenure. Did the media and DWFs pull the “all he do is win” routine?
No. He was a bad QB. The main problem was that Bill Cowher kept starting him year after year, and in most of those years Kordell had no backup to speak of because Cowher thought he was too delicate to have competition. Both Cowher and Stewart were hated on a lot, with lots of nasty rumors going around that they were homosexual lovers. Believe me, in DWF Steeler Nation, as the years went on (and on and on), Kordell had very few supporters, that's why I mentioned him. It surprises me that you younger guys actually think he was regarded as good; if anything Kordell Stewart set the Great Black Quarterback Experiment back a number of years.
