Adam Dunn would be a good fit V/S,but as we know the left field position has been locked up by the man with the 1,000 watt smile!

I am happy with the Eric Hinske signing also, when "Lil' Cutch"is ready,he will play both center and right, and that will save some money, from what I hear about him he is that good!

There was a special program on the career of Andy Van Slyke on FSN Pittsburgh the other day. He was a great defensive player who always put the team first, regardless of what it did to his body and shortened his career as he played with reckless abandon in CF.

So many great catches and throws as he won one Gold Glove after the other.

How I miss the success of those Pirate teams of the early '90s.

I think the addition of Eric Hinske was a steal, though. He's got 20 HR power out of a platoon situation and is extremely versatile. Plus, he holds a special place in my heart for striking out to end the World Series.

Seriously, Hinske's a good player. I'd take him.

I agree. But they are still saying Morgan starts in left and Hinske is the 4th outfielder. Nyjer ought to be on the bench or in the minors. Look at Hinske's stats and you will see the more at bats he gets, the better he is. I hope they put him in right and move Moss to left. That would be a much better hitting lineup: McLouth, Moss and Hinske.

The Pirates two Indian pitchers are looking to impress everyone in their first spring training.

I bet LabMan and Skipperron are as excited to see them in action as I am.

I am all a twitter over our two new Indian prodigys. Jeez, that was one of the silliest signings in the history of Pirate baseball. Right now in minor league camp they are actually teaching them how to play the game of baseball. That is just incredible.

Yeah, not knowing the sabers offhand I'd say Hinske is a replacement level fielder with a plus bat. I don't know a whole lot about Morgan, though.

The two playersfrom India take away two openings for White American players,if India had a professional baseball league we can be sure they would not "caste"aside two of their own to let two American players in,and they would be correct in doing so!,that's called nationalism in sports.

Again,we know that American high school, and college players are the best on the planet, the fact that baseball owners will bring in foreign replacements,"with no experience",shows that these emperors, indeed, have no clothes.

It is amazing the lengths that baseball teams go to NOT have to sign American players. We build "acadamies" in hispanic countries, sign winners of tv contests like the Indian players and so on. It is as if a great player is standing in front of them and they keep looking past him going "oh where oh where are any players?".

Morgan is a 29 year old player who just now is learning the game. He has a lot of speed but is constantly thrown out stealing because he slides right past the base. He does this virtually every time. He is a slap hitter that has a ton of problems against lefthanded pitchers. He also is bragged on for his defense but gets terrible reads and jumps and then has to use his speed to run down his mistakes and of course make a great catch out of what should have been a routine one. But he does have a great smile. You will never see a story about him without them mentioning that. In fact, complete stories have been written simply about his smile or the fact his mother is happy and smiles a lot also.

The MLB channel replayed the 1960 world series today, and again it was good to see Bill Mazeroski's game winning home run,it was a different era to be sure back then,as the Pirates started 8 White players, and most of the male fans in attendance wore suits and ties!

Well, the Buccos' finally dealt away Doug Mientkiewicz,as no doubt they should have, who needs a solid veteran with still a terrific glove, who would run through walls for the team,a calming voice in the clubhouse, solid pinchitter who can fill in at most all positions?

were his contract demands to high?maybe not,as he signed a minor league deal with the Dodgers........!,what other reason could there be?

I seem to remember an off season signing of utility infielder Ramon Vasquez, and I also remember Pittsburgh mayor Luke Ravenstahl saying,"unless the city of Pittsburgh increases efforts in all areas of diversity,we will go nowhere"!

I find all this chase for diversity in Pittsburgh incredulous. The city is fine as it is. How would you feel if many in the city one day say: "Noable Ingles, Senior" ?

this really pisses me off, espn just had a special on them. Who paid for all of this? they didn't even know what baseball was before this and threw javelins. They got professional training for months when they were mediocre at best, 87 mph fastball and the other one topped out at 83 mph, yeah that just blows me away, sign them up right away!

"The Pirates are committed to creatively adding talent to our organization," Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Monday. "By adding these two young men, the Pirates are pleased to not only add two prospects to our system but also hope to open a pathway to an untapped market. We are intrigued by Patel's arm strength and Singh's frame and potential."

"Each has thrown harder during workout sessions that weren't attended by scouts." So they perform worse under stress, thats what I want in a pitcher

"Borris estimates they will need three to four years of minor league experience before becoming major league ready."

They really went through all of that trouble to bring these two guys over here, pay for their stay and all of their expenses, get them visas, when they are going to be minor league picthers at best?Edited by: dwid

How could they even get visas. Don't you have to prove no one else can do that job for a visa? The people who are running this country must hate white Americans. I want ZERO foreign players in our leagues. It's bad enough that Football and basketball are almost all black. Now this?
Peter Gammons on ESPN was talking about how the game is globalized and the World cup of baseball is a good thing. I have no problem with globalization of baseball, IF THEY PLAY IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.NO Canadians, Dominicans. Japanese etc in the US.

Pirates also signed Salazar, a very white player with spanish blood lines. he was led to believe that he would be first choice for outfield depth. then they signed Craig Monroe and before a spring training game was even played they had to explain to Salazar that he would not make the team and that Monroe would. That stinks.

Plus the Pirates have played nine games but Steve Pearce has not played since the second game. He is hitting .333 but has been told he will probably go to the minors, needing to work on being a good first baseman. When I questioned Pirate fans why he should not play they say you can't get excited about players stats during spring training. THEN they gush about Monroe's stats this spring. Why does his count but not Pearces. And if Pearce needs to learn to hit a curve, how does he do that while sitting ont he bench. Morgan is hitting .111 and yet has 16 at bats. Pearce has a double and is hitting .333 but only has 3 at bats. He has hit less than several injured players.

I wish they would trade Pearce to a team that would give him a legit chance to show what he can do. Pearce has not been given an honest chance yet. Since 2 years ago when he was minor league player of the year he has not ever been given a chance. Yet Morgan continues to play and now Monroe is being touted as the next great player for the Pirates

Ah, the joys of "diversity":

Tabata's wife suspected of taking baby

A 2-month-old is back in the arms of her parents and the wife of a top Pittsburgh Pirates minor league prospect is suspected of taking the infant from a health clinic outside Tampa, authorities said Tuesday.

Amalia Tabata Pereira, 43, was being questioned by Florida detectives in Manatee County, where the girl was found unharmed Tuesday afternoon, a day after she was taken from the clinic. Plant City Chief of Police Bill McDaniel said authorities are looking to charge Pereira with false imprisonment.

She is the wife of Jose Tabata, 20, an outfielder and one of the top three prospects for the Pirates, who train in Bradenton, which is in the county where the infant was found. In a statement, Pirates president Frank Coonelly said they have received "no indication that Jose is believed to have had any involvement in this matter."

Sandra Cruz-Francisco was taken from her mother, Rosa Sirilo-Francisco, about 3 p.m. Monday by a woman her family only knew as 'Janet,' Plant City police said. The mother had taken her baby for a checkup at the Plant City Health Department, where she met Janet, who said she was an immigration official, Sirilo-Francisco told the Tampa Tribune. The woman told Sirilo-Francisco that there were officers at her home waiting to deport her and the child's father to Mexico.

!

And to think, LabMan, that Jose Tabata was the supposed centerpiece in our trade of Nady and Marte to the Yankees last year.

Let's hope we get a lot more out of Ohlendorf, Karstens and Daniel McCutchen because Jose Tabata looks to be another Hispanic headcase.

43 year old woman marries a 20 year old player. Hmmmmm. I wonder if she was a school teacher.

Coupled with all the problems Tabata had in the Yankees farm system, this guy promises to always give the Pirates fans something to talk about, anyway.

I've been living in central PA for eight months, and I still don't know that many Pirates fans (or at least that many that will admit it).
