Lord one Herrera was bad enough and now we have Ivan Herrera-Rusova. He is another Cuban and after a couple of games at Bradenton already has matched Yoslan Herrera with a ERA of 9.00. Atta boy Ivan.

Did any of you guys catch Karstens near perfect game? It was a thing of beauty. Of course Chris Young would be the guy to get the hit. And then just had to put down Karstens by saying how the D-Backs nearly no-hit themselves and not due to Karstens. Real classy.

So far in his first two starts and 15 innings Karstens has not given up a run. Yeah.

And Just when I thought things were looking up because Osaria was waived, he cleared the waivers and has been resigned and put at AAA Indy, meaning he will be back up soon. Osoria, the human run machine.

Karstens has looked solid so far,and I hope it continues,White pitchers mechanics, command of the strike zone, are quite different,in most cases, anyone who knows the game realizes that affirmative action praise must be heaped on non-White players to sell their performance to those that do not know the game.

Jeff Karstens has been outstanding so far, and I think that Ross Ohlendorf and Pitcher McCutchen will add a lot to the team`s pitching staff soon. Craig Hansen, the guy they got from the RedSox, has a nice arm, too.

Franquelis Osoria-sucks
Nyjer Morgan-sucks
Ian Snell-sucks this season

Ah, but Pedro Alvarez will save the franchise from August 15 if we cave in and give him $10 million in bonuses and guaranteed major-league salary! He`s a pretty good hitter, but he`s not half as talented as many want to believe.

I know that it won't happen but I am hoping that he does not sign. I know all the little diversity loving fans will go berserk if they don't sign him but man that would be sweet. I had rather have Andy LaRoche or Neil Walker or Matt Hague or Jeremy Farrell than Pedro. I told everyone the best player was Buster Posey and he was. I caught grief over that. In fact Smoak or Gordon Beckham was better than Alverez. So I am keeping my fingers crossed they can't get a deal done.

Solid post Skipperon, and yes,you are right about diversity loving fans,as always that mindset has been created by the media and fans today cannot see through the ploy, there was a time in the U.S. when third basemen were known as leaders and power hitters at that corner position.

As we know,White heros are now being replaced, and Pittsburgh will welcome this "new hero",should he sign.Bucco broadcasters now refer to Jose Bautista as "Joey Bats",a way to endear him to fans?I have heard Alphonso Soriano called "The Fonz"! surely a way to get Henry Winkler out of our mindset.

LabMan: August 15 is almost here. What do you think about Pedro Alvarez? Do we sign him or not? I vote yes, because the media have conditioned the fans to believe signing him is essential to the Bucs future. If we had only drafted Matt Wieters last year....

What`s your vote?

How about yours, Skipperron?

I swear "Joey Bats" was whacked by Paulie Walnuts in an episode of the Sopranos....

VanSlyke,

I think the Pirates will sign Alvarez if the bonus that is asked for is kept in line, the only thing that trumps diversity is the bottom line for these guys,if they ask the "drunk White fans"to pitch in to pay the bonus,he will be here!

Sorry I did not weigh in before he was signed, but I can say I knew that he would sign. they only picked him because fans were told he was the best and so they had to make a splash. they had to show they would spend money and they had to show they did not care that he was Boras client. So they picked him. and then they had to sign him to finish off their great coup. We were subjected to endless stories about what a great kid he was and what a great but poor family he came from.

I was on a site waiting to see if he signed and I swear when he did everyone was giddy with excitement. I am sure they all had to run to the bathroom and relieve themselves they got so excited. And today it is even worse. They are acting like he is our new messiah. As I told one group I had not heard a trumpet so I am sure he is not the second coming arriving here on earth.

Would the same excitement been there if our pick had been Buster Posey? Of course not, they would have been talking about not drafting the player we should have just to save money, never mind that Posey signed for more than Alvarez.

I have watched Alvarez all year, and forget his race, he just did not have the year that a superstar stud should have. Even taking into the effect of his injury he was less than impressive. No doubt he will be a good player but not to the level these clowns are bestowing upon him. But Lord the furor is amazing.

Let the hype begin.Edited by: Skipperron

The Pirates are now 55-68,and are 20 games out of first place, the fans must not be aware,as 37,000 of them came out on Friday night, and 36,000 followed that on Saturday afternoon.Ownership does not have to do anything to improve the team, the cattle will file through gates,no matter what!

The New York Mets were here for the weekend, and nothing has to be said about that line-up,it's been covered here at C/F many times,Pedro Martinez was the starter on Friday night ,for New York, and a White fan held up a sign saying,"our Pedro is better than yours"!so,as always, the latino take over of America's pastime is o.k. with fans in the burgh!

Pirates had skyblast going on. Rock groups after the ballgames and fireworks to boot. For one of the gamew we had 38,000 show up but only 7000 were there for the start and the crowd did not start filing in untill around the 4th inning. Plus PNC was LOADED Mets fans. UGh.

Man it seemed like every player on the Mets is a latino. And Lanny Frattere, Pirates announcer gushed about whether or not a team had ever had 3 Puerto Ricans and 3 Dominican Republicans in the same lineup like the Mets did. He thought it was wonderful. they went on and on about how they love the influence of Latino players in the major leagues. It was sickening.

Meanwhile over on another Pirates site the headline on one thread was "The Whole Pirate lineup was white, And Don't Say You Didn't Notice". Now before you get to excited it was not happy about the white players. It was a thread meant to show how rascist the Pirates were.

Oh yeah Doug Mientkiewicz's wife had heart surgery and so he went on bereavement leave.

And joy joy, guess who they recalled.

Nyjer Morgan and his big beautiful smile is back on the Pirates

The bottom line is that you can't win major league games with minor league pitching. You could put Mickey Mantle in his prime on this team and he wouldn't make them a winner. Just look at the Rangers, they are top 5 in almost every hitting category but they have poor pitching. They are 16 games back and not even close to a wild card spot. In comparison, the Pirates are hitting better as a team than the Rays, Diamond Backs, and Dodgers. They are even ahead of teams like the Angels in runs batted in. I guess the Pirates management hasn't figured it out yet. You win with pitching.

Man I am so mad right now. Little smiley, Nyjer Morgan had been recalled simply to help out while Mientkiewicz was on the breavement list. Then they claimed that McLouth was sick so of course that meant Morgan became the starter. He so far is just 1 for 6 but now that Mientkiewicz is coming back, everyone assumed that Morgan would go back down. Meanwhile Pearce was told right field was his and he would play everyday. Instead he only started every other day and shared the position with Michaels.

And now surprise surprise. Does Morgan, batting .140 get sent back. No. Of course not. Steven Pearce, the Pirates 2007 minor league player of the year gets sent down and Nyjer Morgan, he of the horrible bat but beautiful smile, stays up. I am so mad and sick I can't stand it.

Skipperron: Nyjeria Morgan has no business being on a major league roster. He will flop once again, but the powers-that-be want to showcase his magnificent smile and have a black American on the team for a few more weeks.

LabMan: Did you see that Pedro Alvarez has still not reported to the team? A full ten days after verbally agreeing to his $6 million deal and he is still AWOL. I think he is having second thoughts about it all because Boras is ticked off that the system didn`t force the Pirates to negotiate with him. I wish Alvarez would never report and that the Pirates could just rescind the contract offer.

If he doesn`t want to play now, then he will never be anything but an attitude problem for the team.

I knew his selection was going to be trouble from day one.

Skipperron and LabMan:

Well, Pedro Alvarez and his agent Scott Boras are trying to get out of his $6 million contract with the Pirates. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. We don`t want Alvarez anyway, so this might be good news.

I`d be happier to take the two first rounders next year, and just give up on this loser.

I keep holding my fingers crossed. They are about to go numb. Still it will be worth it if Alvarez is not signed. I just wonder who we will sign next year to compensate for losing our new face of the Pirates Alvarez if it happens.

Also everyone on other sites told me Morgan was just kept to play center for a couple of days while Mclouth was sick. Except he kept playing when McLouth came back. And they moved Morgan to right, the position that Pearce should have been given the rest of the year. Pearce played every other day when he was up, but of course Morgan played every freaking day once he was put out there. And now that Sept. callups will have Pearce back up we are now told that he will have to share right with Morgan. I just love how Pearce is being given such a great chance to succeed. Play every so often and pinch hit a couple of times. Sure fire recipe for failure and then we can let him go knowing he "just was not good enough". Meanwhile Morgan will stay at least untill McCutchen and Tabata can descend from heaven and save the world.

It is time to give up on this edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Let`s look forward to hopefully a better future from 2009.

The Pirates continue to dismantle centerfielder Nate McLouth's season, here was a player hitting .360,and is now down to .272,why?,they constantly moved him around from the lead off spot to number three,"to get Freddy Sanchez going"?,in my opinion, yes.

Now the added pressure of Nyjer Morgan taking his job as an affirmative action hire looms, can't have that great White man in centerfield when it's fashionable these days to replace him with a non-white player.

LabMan: I`m convinced that Nyjeria Morgan won`t be around much next year in any role with the Pirates. I truly believe that the only reason he is playing now is to get an American black player on the roster and in some games.

After Ian Snell and Morgan, the Pirates have very few black Americans in their organization who will have any chance of playing in the majors in the next 3-4 years, with the exception of Andrew McCutchen.

I expect most of their Latin American signings this year to flame out in the low minors. I don`t think they got any prospects. They just wanted to showcase the diversity thing.

With minor league OFs McCutchen and Jose Tabata around for the next several years, I really hope the Alvarez deal falls apart and that he never plays a game for the organization. Let`s get an extra pick next year and let this punk hit the road.

By the way, LabMan, how is the rehab going? Are you back to full strength yet? Don`t let the Pirate losses give you too much stress!
