it looks like he lost some size since he last played, am I the only one who sees that? hopefully he still has a good deal of power

I agree, his legs look more toned, maybe he just lost a bit of bulk, I doubt he lost any muscle mass.

He might have lost some mass because it was affecting his speed or cut back ability. Also it seems like teams don't consider him a fullback anymore so he doesn't need the extra mass for drive blocking or true fullback calls up the gut.

word is that Brandon Jacobs is on the wrong side of 50/50 to play tonight. if that's the case, Hillis may get a shot at being "the man" to carry the ball despite just being signed this week.

hopefully, he'll blow up in a HUGE way on the national stage.

I hate to blow your optimism JC, but supposedly Michael Cox is starting.:frusty:

two words: Hillis Curse.

it doesn't matter who starts, it matters who finishes ... and hopefully Hillis will emerge as the guy in NYC, despite the odds not being in his favor.

The Giants haven't had a white guy get meaningful carries for over a decade now, last guy I can remember was Sean Bennett and that was in the late 90's I believe.

I was stuck watching the MNF pregame show at the gym (on a bike), and I watched as they covered a variety of interest stories for the game, none really interesting as both teams stink. They went over the Eli saga, went on and on about Freeman, but unless I missed it nothing was mentioned about Hillis.

I know they hates the White guys at MNF but isn't the Madden video game crowd their demographic?? I know it ain't me, I never watch the show--I hate pregame blather, but wouldn't it be in their best interest to tweak all those video gamers by hyping up that big Albino Rhino they loved back a few years ago? I just don't understand the mind of the cultymarxies that run media.

most of Giants fans are happy with Hillis and his performance, noticing how he blocks well and runs hard and is a big weapon in a passing game, definite upgrade over Jacobs.
now, they also noticed that he looked slow (and he did, but then again, he was sitting on his butt for last 5 weeks and haven't played since preseason - by his own admittance he did no exercise and got jello legs on MNF) but blamed o-line for his low yards per carry.

refreshing, to say the least! if Hillis gets in shape he will be a god in one of the biggest markets out there...

Yes, the New York media seems fair and mostly positive so far. Here are the back pages of the 2 biggest tabloid newspapers here in NYC, The Daily News and New York Post.

How great is that and imagine here in America's largest metropolis the hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of people who are seeing a White running back on their newsstand or front step this morning. It could be eye-opening for many people.

Backrow, you're right about Hillis saying he didn't have his legs yet. Here's some of his post game interview.

“Going into the night my legs felt like Jell-O,’’ said Hillis, the journeyman running back the Giants signed last week, after the Giants’ 23-7 win over the Vikings at MetLife Stadium. “It was being out of the game for a little bit. I had three weeks where I thought my career was over. I was back at home on my ranch in Tennessee hunting every day and not working out and then got the call [from the Giants]. Even in the workout I felt like was out of gas and about to pass out.

“I tried not to show it on the outside, but internally I was a little worried. I sensed myself out there [Monday night] making cuts and falling on my face. But I didn’t.’’

And later in the article.

“I was surprised at the workload, but the team needed me and they needed me to produce,’’ Hillis said. “And even though I didn’t do it great tonight I feel like I did some things to help the team win. I still believe if you give me a couple more weeks, and I can get grasp of the offense and get my legs back underneath me I can show you some glimpses.’’

The rest of the article is complimentary and worth the short read too.

It's quite clear by any reasonable standard that Hillis is good enough to be in the NFL, if only as a backup.

If he continues to perform well perhaps some delusional white fans will begin to question why he was out of football. Maybe they'll start to realize that there is an agenda against white players in the NFL.

With so much depressing news coming lately in the NFL, it's good to see a feel good story for a change. Now if we can only get Tim Tebow signed, a few more our qb's a chance on another team, and Toby Gerhart to a new team where he can start. I still can't believe how many of our receivers and rb's got screwed in the draft. It would be nice to see a few of them get a call but I doubt it will happen.

hating rotoworld is at it:

Giants coach Tom Coughlin has "no idea" if Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) will be ready for Week 8.

Jacobs is "hoping and praying" he'll be ready, but Coughlin sounds pessimistic. Normally, the return of Jacobs wouldn't be that pressing, but the G-Men totaled a pathetic 64 yards on 32 rushes in Monday night's win. Peyton Hillis looked slower than a fullback in the lead role. Jacobs wouldn't be more than a desperation FLEX play if he suits up against the Eagles.

Those chumps from Roto(rooter)World could not beat their way out of a wet paper bag!

Strange how 75-80% of NFL's Starting Defenses are not white...yet 3 of the Top 4 NFL Leading Tacklers (2nd)Sean Lee, (3rd)Kiko Alonso & (4th) Paul Posluzsny are......

Peterson only had 28 yards rushing on 13 carries...Gerhart not even worthy of a few token carries?? He needs to punch his coach in the mouth!

Give Hillis a few more weeks...what can they expect fresh off the street?? Had Eli hit him in 1st Half WIDE-OPEN...He would have had 6 rec for 60+ yards easily!

I'm going to take back what I said ie. that I was rooting for a minor injury so Hillis would be signed (it was a joke that he was a FA-he's WAY too good for that) as long as it wasn't any worse than a broken ankle. Hillis is married to a preacher's daughter and would probably be VERY charitable- so if he actually could get the contract he deserves he could help lots of people. When I see some overpaid or over-hyped black players like BenJarvis Green Ellis and Trent Richardson it gets me very angry because Hillis is better than them. I guess a hamstring pull is what I should have been rooting for since it is VERY MINOR, but enough to get Hillis signed.

Hillis hadn't worked out in a month and admitted to being depressed after being cut by that radically anti-white GM Mark Dominic. Even though he didn't look good running the ball, he still moved the pile to get a nice TD in short yardage and caught the ball well. And more importantly the Giants won. And I don't hear anyone talking about Peterson's pathetic performance. His 2.2 YPC was only slightly better than out of shape Hillis' 2.0 YPC. Can't Hillis even get a break in his first game action in months when the best RB in the league struggled? I guess not.

In my opinion Hillis and David Wilson (if he gets healthy he could be used like Giovanni Bernard) could be a great thunder and lightning combo once Hillis gets his legs back under him, if they actually let it happen. Jerry Reece hasn't been fair since taking over the Giants, but he still is far better than Mark Dominic- so Hillis has a better chance in NY (however small) than in TB. Here's hoping Hillis gets another week to prove himself and pad his stats.

Great to see Hillis back in the league and get a lot of playing time. He played with a lot of heart. I have only watched football games other then the Super Bowl in the past few years in which a white running back will get some decent carries which is to say I don't watch a lot of football. I don't think we should get our hopes up too high for Hillis to play a significant role for the GIants. As much as I want Hillis to succeed 18 carries for 36 yards is nowhere good enough for him to take anyone's job away. Being a white running back he needed to have a good game and average around 4.5 yards. I know that he didn't a lot of holes to run through but there were a couple of runs where he did have the opportunity to make some big gains but did not take advantage of it. I hope he gets another shot to carry the load on the running game and if he does he needs to cash in on it. Eventually the other giant running backs will get healthy and if he does not step it up right away in the running game he will be the odd man out again.

This is where Rotoworld is just too obvious. The person that wrote this didn't watch the game. All (s)he did was look at the rushing stats. (S)he saw a poor yards per carry, and no long runs. (S)He didn't look at the receiving stats because the blurb is about a running back.

Have to agree- that he didn't look as fast as he did with Denver or his first year in Cleveland and (other than short yardage) didn't run the ball well. He hadn't been keeping up with his workouts- he was depressed and thought his career might be over. His cutting ability also looked like it declined- and other than being a bit "jello-legged"/ out of shape- this is also an instinctive trait. Remember, he hadn't had any game action since the pre-season. The blocking was also pathetic- so this all doesn't fall on Hillis' shoulders.

He needs a productive next two weeks rushing the ball to solidify his spot as the Powerback in a 2 man rotation once Andre Brown and/or David Wilson return. IMHO, it's really a toss up at this point if Andre Brown, David Wilson or Hillis are the best back on the team, but I think it's clear Hillis is the best powerback (I'm certain once he gets in shape he's better than 31 year old Jacobs- and may be already!). Hillis has the best nose for the end-zone and is very good in pass protection and catching the ball. In a fair world he would have a chance to get a 50-50 time share of carries if he catches his grove the next couple weeks.

If Hillis can get 2 more games under his belt he'll make the team...The Giants love to pass to RBs out of the backfield, they haven't done it since tiki barber left because none of the others could catch........

I don't know how you can make these kind of judgements in the small sample of carries and the complete lack of holes he had. It seems so subjective. There were only a couple of times he had any daylight and he got yards. On the other side Peterson did worse. Did he lose a step? Was his cutting ability less then before? This kind of snap judgement is the type of thing the anti-White racists do all of the time. Take a very small sample size and put their own negative spin on it. If this was a rookie black RB that had that game they would be salivating over potential and future. He would have locked up the starting job with his "nose for the end zone" his ability to move the chains, his versatility out of the back field, etc etc.

Hillis looked a step or two slower to me. I expect that to change if he is "allowed" to play more and gets into better game shape. On the rare occasions when he had a hole to run through and a lane opened, I expected to see a 10 or 15 yard gain, ala 2008 and 2010, but defenders closed on him before he could build up a head of steam and he was limited to modest gains. Overall he had a solid game with several crucial plays and showed nice power on the TD run and the third down pass reception he converted into a first down, but he's not yet in the form we came to expect and enjoy so much in '08 and '10.

A point that I think is significant is "why" the Giants signed him. Surely they saw he was a step or two slower while giving him a look over in his tryou!. Why would the giants sign him, rather that an affeletic RB who was available and on a another team and game ready? Maybe.....someone sees his ability once he gets his legs and rhythm going. Just a thought. Regardless, I hope he seizes the opportunity and the GM and HC of the Giants give him a real look. The 1st game performance after being yanked off the farm was not bad at all.

Hillis came off the couch after almost a month of not working out and looked better than a good deal of backs in the league, not just backups, starters. And when I saw him in Tampa it didn't look like he was 100 percent dedicated like he knew what his future was going to be with the team. He was basically a camp body, but a jaded camp body with his career in the NFL and his preparation probably reflected that. There were no stories of him pulling trucks in the parking lot for his pre season training. I would say he was putting in the bare minimum. He still could have done better under these circumstances. The whole hitting the hole was more about confidence, he has to hit that hole with confidence and authority and I think he gained some of that last game.
