it looks like he lost some size since he last played, am I the only one who sees that? hopefully he still has a good deal of power
He might have lost some mass because it was affecting his speed or cut back ability. Also it seems like teams don't consider him a fullback anymore so he doesn't need the extra mass for drive blocking or true fullback calls up the gut.I agree, his legs look more toned, maybe he just lost a bit of bulk, I doubt he lost any muscle mass.
word is that Brandon Jacobs is on the wrong side of 50/50 to play tonight. if that's the case, Hillis may get a shot at being "the man" to carry the ball despite just being signed this week.
hopefully, he'll blow up in a HUGE way on the national stage.
Yes, the New York media seems fair and mostly positive so far. Here are the back pages of the 2 biggest tabloid newspapers here in NYC, The Daily News and New York Post.most of Giants fans are happy with Hillis and his performance, noticing how he blocks well and runs hard and is a big weapon in a passing game, definite upgrade over Jacobs.
now, they also noticed that he looked slow (and he did, but then again, he was sitting on his butt for last 5 weeks and haven't played since preseason - by his own admittance he did no exercise and got jello legs on MNF) but blamed o-line for his low yards per carry.
refreshing, to say the least! if Hillis gets in shape he will be a god in one of the biggest markets out there...
hating rotoworld is at it:
Giants coach Tom Coughlin has "no idea" if Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) will be ready for Week 8.
Jacobs is "hoping and praying" he'll be ready, but Coughlin sounds pessimistic. Normally, the return of Jacobs wouldn't be that pressing, but the G-Men totaled a pathetic 64 yards on 32 rushes in Monday night's win. Peyton Hillis looked slower than a fullback in the lead role. Jacobs wouldn't be more than a desperation FLEX play if he suits up against the Eagles.
Great to see Hillis back in the league and get a lot of playing time. He played with a lot of heart. I have only watched football games other then the Super Bowl in the past few years in which a white running back will get some decent carries which is to say I don't watch a lot of football. I don't think we should get our hopes up too high for Hillis to play a significant role for the GIants. As much as I want Hillis to succeed 18 carries for 36 yards is nowhere good enough for him to take anyone's job away. Being a white running back he needed to have a good game and average around 4.5 yards. I know that he didn't a lot of holes to run through but there were a couple of runs where he did have the opportunity to make some big gains but did not take advantage of it. I hope he gets another shot to carry the load on the running game and if he does he needs to cash in on it. Eventually the other giant running backs will get healthy and if he does not step it up right away in the running game he will be the odd man out again.
Have to agree- that he didn't look as fast as he did with Denver or his first year in Cleveland and (other than short yardage) didn't run the ball well. He hadn't been keeping up with his workouts- he was depressed and thought his career might be over. His cutting ability also looked like it declined- and other than being a bit "jello-legged"/ out of shape- this is also an instinctive trait. Remember, he hadn't had any game action since the pre-season. The blocking was also pathetic- so this all doesn't fall on Hillis' shoulders.
