It looks like Peyton is getting a workout with the Giants today.I would hate to see Hillis stuck on this crap team and having to play with Eli but if he could run well and they actually win a few games maybe it could resurrect his career.

The Giants have been mentioned before on this forum as a team that would be a good fit for Hillis, mainly because their RBs suck badly. When slow-footed, lumbering Brandon Jacobs is your starter, you've got a lot of room for improvement. If the Giants actually sign Hillis and play him, look for Eli to be much, much more effective, and the Giants to be greatly improved.

Yeah, Eli wouldn't be throwing so many picks if he had a quality receiving RB who could be trusted to pick up yards on dump offs in the flat, who also needed to be played heavy in the box and could pick up blitzes.

I suppose Brandon 'gimmick' Jacobs was supposed to change their season with his 2nd string college FB level skillset.

I'd like to see Hillis on a team that actually has a decent O-Line. Giants o-line stinks.

I don't think the Seahawks are going to be offering him a spot anytime soon. I hope SOME team gives him a shot. If it's the Giants, fine. Time is running out for him.

About time! I hope coughlin uses him!
I'm glad Hillis is off free agency but as a former Giants fan and quasi-follower of the team, I have a bad feeling about this. Since black GM Jerry Reese took over in 2007 for Ernie Accorsi, the Giants haven't given a fair shake to any "skill position" players. Could this change out of desperation? Perhaps, but I won't hold my breath.

looks like Hillis will be wearing 44. cool

now, as far as his outlook goes, Jacobs will be recovered from his hamstring tweak by MNF; their other two backs are coming back from injuries in 3 weeks time, which leaves Hillis 2 weeks to prove that he's worth keeping at least as a short yardage specialist, over Jacobs who looked terrible this season... until last game where he got over a 100 yards and 2 TDs... let's just say the deck is stacked against him but at least he's in the league.

The deck and the idiot fans are stacked against him.I went to the Giants message boards to see what fans thought of the signing and seen the link to this article.

I couldn't even leave a comment because i don't know how to respond to such stupidity.People like these idiots are a big part of how players get ran out of the league by the fans.

Hillis had 2.8 ypc?Ran 700+ times in his 1000 yard season? There are a 100 guys that ran better at the combine and would be a better pickup?WTF

Ridiculous comments (and btw, I hate the Giants) from no-nothings and totally duped DWFs, many of whom claiming to be Giants fans who have no clue that Hillis has been shafted by the League system. The Giants should have gotten Hillis even before Jacobs but those comments make me sick being a racially conscious White man. Not one single complimentary thing really said, and the article is atrocious to say the least. I hope he does good and proves the naysayers wrong.

I spent half an hour reading comments under different articles about Hillis signing with Giants and I got to say, it is gruesome. I mean, they hate him already! Everything negative you could say about him was being said and repeated... I'd say 10% of fans were in favor, if that. The rest of DWFs simply rage about that.

It'll be interesting to see if Hillis plays Monday night. I'd say they won't want to take a chance he does well on national TV, so he'll sit this one out.

Yep. It's like the the League doesn't want him (or countless other White RBs) to succeed. They (the Giants) are seemingly doing this as a last resort almost. It is nuts and unbelievable that he hasn't been given the opportunities that are due him considering the non-malanin-challenged players as competition. He possibly could (note I say "could") have been another Riggins or Czonka I believe. He certainly has the skills to maul right over DBs and even LBs. What a sham this league is. These next couple of years may be my last watching NFL. I dropped NBA years ago because of the promotion of thuggery crap image and junk, and the disparagement of White players to no end. This may be the end for me for the NFL if the story continues. I'm giving myself a couple years, maybe, then I'm done.

is the line really that bad? or do they not have runningbacks that can hit the hole fast enough? Because I read the Saints forums and there have been many Mark Ingram apologists about how he has to face 8 and 9 man fronts but yet the other backs Thomas and now Robinson don't have a problem.

as far as Hillis, I just hope he has confidence. I couldn't tell if his performance in Kansas City was due to his hamstring or lack of confidence, because his punishing style, sometimes results in fumbles, he is a tall dude and likes to drag defenders which makes it an easier target for someone to punch out, and if he fumbles there will be a big outrage. Peterson is a punishing runner and it took him a while to figure out how to hold on to the ball, and he isn't as punishing as Hillis. Tiki Barber, now don't know what his problem was, carried the ball like a loaf of bread maybe? Eric Dickerson could be a punishing runner and fumbled 56 times his first 5 seasons, the last season below double digits was 7 with 12 games played 10 started. The second lowest was 10 with 14 games started/played.

700 carries my ass, he didn't even get the standard 300 carry season that workhorse backs get, although he did get a bunch of catches. He averaged the highest ypc in the AFC north that year, when Baltimore and the Steelers both had the top rush defenses, no back averaged 4 ypc (well technically Ray Rice did if you want to round up it was like 3.95 or something.) and he didn't have to face his own defense twice a year. The only other back that did face those two teams twice was Cedric Benson (who was considered pretty good at the time, and no doubt fans would want him before Hillis), averaged 3.5 ypc.

I mean he did have that 100 yard game when he finally got the ball some so that was nice to see. And I hate how he is called a one year wonder, he led the Broncos in rushing 2 years before that and benched for the slower and smaller Knowshon Moreno, who finally is looking mediocre with the best passing game in the league to take away pressure off of him. At the time he completely sucked and struggled with short yardage, and Hillis still sat on the bench.

Looks like the comments section turned around quite a bit in favor of Hillis. I assume some of you guys are responsible :p

Wow, there are quite a few drunks posting crap about Hillis. I think Peyton really needs step up Monday night, if he gets carries, and break off a few nice runs or catches. Maybe a nice run where he trucks a couple of guys. The haters really need to be silenced.

Im glad Hillis finally gets another "chance", but Im pretty sure this will be the last one. If he gets on the field, which I highly doubt he will, he better make some big plays.

The "Hillis Curse" may be back. Shades of 2008 and 2010? Let's hope so.

Brandon Jacobs (hamstring) did not practice Saturday and is questionable for Week 7 against the Vikings. Jacobs practiced on a limited basis Thursday and Friday, so it's possible he could be dealing with a setback. He's a game-time decision, but is expected to play on Monday night. The Giants have just Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox behind him.

Of course Hillis goes to a team with one of the worst lines in the league

At least last week the o-line opened up gaping holes for the lumbering Brandon Jacobs; whether that was a one-time aberration or a trend isn't yet known.

Here's an excellent article on Hillis

Giants and Peyton Hillis can help each other

by Francisco Bernard

When you are an 0-6 team who should be leading your division and contending for a Super Bowl and when you are a free-agent running back who graced the cover of EA Sports Madden NFL series and should be a starting running back, a match-made in heaven is going to happen.

On Wednesday, the New York Giants (0-6) were in desperate need of a running back. With a run game hampered due to injuries, poor play, and fumbles, the Giants took the best one on the market: Peyton Hillis.

Hillis is known mostly for gracing the cover of EA Sports Madden NFL 12 rather than his running back and receiving skills, skills that until now, have gone unnoticed.

Hillis attended the University of Arkansas before going pro and had a big freshmen year. As a true freshmen, he rushed for 240 yards and 6 touchdowns as well as 97 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, ranking him 4th for touchdowns in the SEC. Yet, Hillis fell through the cracks when running backs by the names of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones bursted onto the scene.

After being drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2008, Hillis was underutilized and undervalued. Denver listed him as a fullback, but when injuries plagued the running back corps, Hillis took advantage and produce a 100-yard receiving game as well as a 100-yard rushing game during the season.

After his 100-yard rushing game, Hillis was honored as the Diet Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week and FedEx Ground Player of the Week. A season-ending injury ended his breakout start and with Mike Shanahan fired and Josh McDaniels hired as the new Broncos head coach, Hillis found himself out of McDaniels’ vision of the Broncos, he was underutilized in 2009 and subsequently traded during the offseason in 2010 to the Cleveland Browns.

There in Cleveland, Hillis found his niche and finished the 2010 season with 1,177 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns as well as 477 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. It was the 2010 season that put Hillis on the map and also on the front cover of EA Sports Madden NFL 12. As legend has it, the next season is cursed, and it just so happened that the 2011 season was a year to forget.

Hampered by injuries and unsuccesful negotiations for a contract extension caused Hillis to struggle in 2011 and as a result, the Browns let him test the waters of free agency and drafted a guy by the name of Trent Richardson. Hillis was signed by Kansas City Chiefs, but played as a backup to Jamaal Charles.

The words underutilized and undervalued don’t even do justice to the treatment of Hillis. Not only is he a great running back, but he is good with his hands and makes an offense better. With Denver and Cleveland, he improved offenses that had quarterbacks who were either subpar or loose cannons. It was his offensive presence that helped each team and made teams that are known for their defense good on offense.

Enter the New York Giants who have been horrendous on both offense and defense. With no running game and no way to utilize the dual-threat of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz for fear of Manning throwing another inception, Hillis is the best option.

He may not be the long-term solution, but he should not be a short-term solution. His history shows that he has been overlooked for his talent and with a team that is in need of Superman, ‘Cover Boy’ can be the hero.

Many say that Hillis fell from grace, but in reality, he was pushed off of grace. He was pushed off by other organizations who didn’t see the talent he possesses.
With a team that is mathematically still in a playoff race, but in hindsight out of a playoff race, this is Hillis’ chance to show those organizations who pushed him out how wrong they were.

‘Cover Boy’ may not be Batman, but hey, Gotham needs a hero and Hillis may not be the hero Gotham wants, but the hero they need.http://isportsweb.com/2013/10/18/new-york-giants-giants-and-peyton-hillis-can-help-each-other/
